About the property

Chalet, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

This peaceful retreat is a lovely private home. With new carpet and wood flooring throughout the house. We believe you will be very impressed and want to come back time after time. The house is nicely laid out with an open floor plan on the main floor. A two story addition was added to this classic Northpoint home which included a separate game room/tv room on the lower story and a large bedroom with sleeping loft on the main floor.

The main floor boasts a nicely appointed kitchen with new stainless steel appliances, a large living area with seating for at least 7 and a flat screen TV, CD player and radio. The dining table in this open layout comfortably seats eight, although more chairs are available for extra seating.

Each bedroom has its own TV and the bedroom on the main floor has its own sitting/reading area if you want to get away from it all. All the beds are queen size with high thread count sheets and down comforters. We believe in making you as comfortable as you would be at home.

This home offers multiple levels of decks with views of the valley in the winter time through the trees. The hottub is accessbile both through the game room and through doors out of either of the downstairs bedrooms.

Peaceful Retreat as we like to call our home is centrally located between the main attractions in Canaan Valley and the small town of Davis. We find this works out well as it is just a hop over the ridge if you need to grab something from the grocery store but still only 5 minutes to the ski areas and other attractions in the Valley.

Why Jenny Driver chose Davis

This home allows our family to get away from the daily ins and outs of our lives. It provides a place where we can come together now as a large family with many grandchilden and hike, bike, ski or simply relax. We started coming to the valley in the early 80's and finally decided to purchase this home for all the family to enjoy.

Plenty of other Places here to Pick From

  • 1 of 5

I’m certain the owners will respond to this, that being said I’ll preface by saying that I’ve rented with VRBO and homeaway no less than 20+ times and have never had an issue with ANYTHING. There is plenty of space and the kitchen wasn’t bad. There were some issues of which I’ll list, normally I don’t detail things to the minutia, but for this rental I will to provide the owners with a good list of things they can improve upon to bring this rental up to the standards of the other rentals we’ve had throughout the world, as well as the multiple rentals in Canaan. In the owners defense it never was anything I called them about, although a phone number was never provided and communication via email (1 response to the 3 I sent) was virtually non-existent. Immediately upon entering a home, we check for smoke detectors. Both were in the home with the batteries removed, and there were ants in the kitchen. No big deal, we bought some batteries and bug spray. Still, something worth checking on. The outlets throughout the house were hit or miss. MANY were non-functioning, still no biggie, just have to hunt for one. The furniture is dated and old. The recliners in the living room don’t recline, or if they do they certainly don’t close afterwards. The basement could use a dehumidifier. Again, no biggie, it was summer and we were downstairs, but still its certainly musty. We also saw a mouse in the basement when we arrived, we hunted for it to no avail. Still didn’t break the trip, but certainly something they could fix. Upon departure we completely followed their departure list which didn’t mention vacuuming or sweeping. Although we did take 7 bags of garbage , by car, to the bear dumpster by the front gate, stripped the beds, and placed all the dirty linens and towels in the laundry room. They withheld $50 of my security deposit (used for breakage) to pay the cleaning people extra for a “water bottle left in the bathroom deeming the remove all trash clause void, and crumbs in the house.” I apologized for the water bottle in the bathroom- but had they listed sweep the house throughout we certainly would have. They said they had to "wash multiple loads," again- Laundry wasn't listed as a "must do" and the house sleeps 12- do the math, laundry for that size group adds up. If you’re a college group just cramming a bunch of people in for a cheap ski-weekend this place would be great, otherwise Look elsewhere, unless you want a bait and switch with your deposit.

Owner's Response: The response to this review has been slow due to the feeling that it didn't really deserve a response..however... We of course would always be disappointed to see such a poor review however occasionally there is a bad egg in the dozen. I believe the last two reviews and those previous to this one speak for themselves. We rely solely on our cleaning staff, whom we believe to do a wonderful job, to inform us of the condition of our home upon guest departure. Any funds kept, which has occurred twice in the many years of renting our home, has all gone to pay cleaning staff extra for the time incurred. As for not providing phone numbers... they are provided both in the rental agreement as well as the directions which give guest all the information to get to and in our home. Two numbers are actually provided just in case there is no response with the first dial. As for email- this document is sent via email. We are generally concise in our email correspondence but always encourage guest to please contact us with any questions or concerns.

We had a lot of fun there, but I was surprised by the rats and small ants in the kitchen.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the 4 stars even with the appearance of mice! Occasionally we will see the evidence of mice in our home due to it being in the woods and them coming in as cooler weather approaches. We do have control features in place to keep mice and ants at bay but not always are they 100% effective. Glad you had a great time!

Nice quite stay

  • 4 of 5

Nice house, plenty of room for my reunion with my 4 siblings and their three spouses plus one 3 year old. We took full advantage of the lovely hot tube and made wonderful meals in the great kitchen. There was even space to be alone or break into smaller groups without imposing on each other.

Great time with family! The house was big enough to give everyone a private space yet it allowed ample room in the living and dining area for meals and fun. It was like living in a tree house!
