Come and make Villa Solymar your favorite Vacation home with stunning ocean views from all the Main House bedrooms. Now offering 40% OFF already included on all seasons' weekly rates Everyone who has been a guest at Solymar has absolutely loved it!! Please be sure to look at all of the wonderful reviews...we are sure that you will love it too!

The main villa is 3 bedrooms/3.5 baths (2 king beds, 2 twin beds) with a max. occupancy of 6. The guesthouse garden view (or 'casita') has one guest apartment with a king bed, bathroom and kitchen which sleeps 2. (See rates)

A few great amenities that we've included in the base prices are the use of our 4 seater golf cart (great to have in Akumal and a $400 value), a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit basket and the use of the second apartment in the guest house which is set up as an exercise room/office (it has a treadmill and wireless connection).

Other features:

*great location (walking distance to Akumal bay, but you can use the golf cart too!)

*beautifully furnished, very comfortable villa

*on one of the largest lots in Akumal (great privacy)

*the previous owners actually lived in Solymar for 5 years so it has a complete inventory of everything you need. It’s not your typical rental property lacking everything like most rentals.

*Solymar is beautifully furnished. No concrete slab beds with hotel quality mattresses on them. These beds were shipped from Florida with wonderful mattresses, quality sheets and pillows. Lots of good reading lamps too!

*The housekeeper, Maria, will be a real asset to your vacation. She not only does the cleaning 6 days a week but she can also cook wonderful meals for you too upon request. We also have a wonderful masseuse who can come to the villa - he does massages on the second floor balcony overlooking the Caribbean. There is also a wonderful spa in Akumal if you'd like a manicure/pedicure, facial, etc. You're on vacation...pamper yourself!

*The gardener, Luis, will take care of any maintenance needs as well as wash your rental car every day. He is also very good at cutting open coconuts for you!

*We have a wonderful manager, Monica, who is always available if you have any questions.

You will love Solymar! The pool is right on the ocean and the villa is on a large, very private lot with beautiful furnishings. We have wireless internet and tons of movies to watch at Solymar. We have just added a new amenity which is an office/exercise room. It has a treadmill and wireless internet for the person who wants to stay in touch or conduct business from Mexico. This is included with the rental of the villa. This room also has a full kitchen and full bath.

I guarantee you that you will sleep like a baby with the ocean waves crashing on the shore at night. Open the windows in your bedroom and let the breeze blow in. It's a great experience!

Akumal is located just one hour and ten minutes south of Cancun on the Mexican Caribbean coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula. It has long been a secret getaway, discovered only by those who dared to travel down the coastline in search of adventure. Once discovered, many travelers found themselves returning to Akumal year after year.

Akumal Bay is a beautiful sugary white sand beach at the heart of Akumal. It is Akumal's public beach area and offers dining, cocktails, diving, swimming and snorkeling. Many of Akumal's amenities are located on Akumal Bay, including restaurants and beach bar, pizzeria and ice cream shop, the bakery, grocery store, dive shops and a few small boutiques with native goods from Mexico and Central America.

All rooms in the villa - upstairs and down - enjoy an ocean view and air conditioning. The downstairs includes a large living room with cozy, comfortable and elegant furniture. After a day of sunshine you can look forward to watching television or a good movie while someone else curls up with a good book. There are many couches, chairs, ceiling fans, a bar and a credenza filled with games. Also downstairs, the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need and the dining room displays a gorgeous table with a marble column base, glass top and elegant Tommy Bahama chairs for a Caribbean flair. There are also dining tables pool side and garden side so you have many choices depending on your mood. Steaks on the grill, a Mexican meal prepared by the cook, or a picnic by the swimming pool: just make sure you have an icy cold drink in hand!

All three bedrooms in the main house are the same size and have dressing rooms and beautiful bathrooms. The bedroom downstairs has a King-size bed and is called the 'Oriental Room' because of the red silk furnishings and antique bronze Buddhas from Japan. The two upstairs bedrooms both have stunning illuminated brick domed ceilings and are separated by a large private outdoor balcony which is terrific for shade or sun; lying in a hammock or getting an all over tan. The views from Solymar are gorgeous, the elegant and unusual half-moon swimming pool with a backdrop of coral reef, water geysers shooting up into the air and boats sailing by in the ocean. A panoramic view of the aquamarine Caribbean Sea!

Also on the property is an air conditioned guest house or 'casita'. It is located as a second floor over the large two car garage on one side and, unique for Mexico, a large laundry/storage room with bath for the maid and gardener on the other side. The second floor has a beautiful view of the surrounding gardens and birds. There are two apartments and the first one is called the 'Jungle Room' because of the views and furnishings which include lots of wicker furniture and monkey fabrics! It has a King-size bed, sitting area with TV and movies, kitchen and bathroom. The second apartment is the exercise/office room previously mentioned.

Solymar is an experience you should not miss. Elegance and comfort mixed with a Caribbean adventure - a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy!

About Monica Estrada

Jacques and Monique Asquini

Monica Estrada purchased this villa in 2012

Why Monica Estrada chose Akumal

We have always loved Mexico and the Mayan Riviera especially - such a beautiful place and wonderful people! There are so many great things to do nearby as well so while Akumal itself is quiet and tranquil (which we love), there is a lot to do a short drive away.

What makes this villa unique

We love the villa for its size (not too big, not too small) and the fact that there is a guest house which we have used as an office and extra guest room. So now you can rent Solymar with three bedrooms/3.5 baths or you can also rent the guest house bedroom making sleeping arrangements for 8 people total. Also, the view with the crescent shaped pool overlooking the Caribbean is just incredible ... a true paradise!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Beautiful Solymar was a perfect spot for our family get together. We liked the convenience of being in walking distance of the village, the beach and good restaurants. Snorkeling at Yal-ku was my favorite experience, aside from just sitting on the pool deck listening to the waves of the Caribbean. Your house is comfortable and gorgeous. Luis and Nidia took good care of us. Lovely home, beautiful surroundings, wonderful vacation!

snorkel every day

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 enjoyed a week at Solymar and we will return. The house is a perfect design, every room has an ocean view. The pool is a beauty. The terrace is a delight. The level of comfort is high. You will find a well equipped kitchen, handsome decor, excellent bedding, thick towels, daily housekeeping and the use of a golf cart! We explored the bays to each side and snorkeled all over. There are several really good restaurants and shops in Akumal. We went sailing one day and fishing on another. We visited Tulum and Playa. We also went to Dos Ojos cenote. On our last day we saw the Centro Ecological group doing their work on the beach and they were very kind. They let us watch a turtle hatch. They showed us what they were doing to make sure every baby was able to dig out of the deep sand nests. They had 30 or more ready for release that night and we got to see them. It was awesome! We had been swimming with huge turtles all week and now we knew more about them. This was our 6th vacation on the Mexican rivera and by far the best.

Would visit again!

  • 5 of 5

In the past few times our family went to Akumal, we stayed at Las Casitas but couldn't book a unit this time. We picked Casa Solymar based on the reviews - it looked classy and had three bedrooms and was walking distance to the main beach.

The villa was a little set back from the road and had a lush garden. It was spacious with a great view, and everything was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and even had some oil and spices.

The pool was a lot bigger than we thought, a great size for our family. We swam in it a few times a day. It was clean and not over-chlorinated.

The villa provided an electric cart which was helpful when we made several trips to the grocery store or decided to go to Yal-ku which was a long walk away. We didn't think it was such a plus point when making our reservation, but it was really a nice convenience.

The bedrooms upstairs were a little warm in late March. My bedroom had a faulty AC unit and never cooled down. When I contacted the manager, Monica Estrada, she sent someone to look at it right away, and the AC was replaced that very day.

Monica was very helpful. Due to passport issues, I had to arrive two days later than my family and she arranged additional airport transfer. Every time I emailed her, I received a reply right away.

Please be aware that the wifi connection doesn't reach the upstairs bedrooms.

The beach is very rocky so you can't go swimming there. The view, though, is spectacular. On very windy days, the salt spray can get 100 ft right up to the windows.

When we stayed at Las Casitas in the past, we used to tip the housekeeper every day whatever we liked. Here at Casa Solymar, the guest book said to tip the housekeeper and gardener 15% of the cost of the rental. We also felt that being asked to tip the gardener is quite unusual. Shouldn't the maintenance of the pool and garden be factored into the cost of the rental? The villa management should have asked for the rental + 15% upfront instead. The tipping request and amount felt like a hidden fee. Tipping should be optional. We did tip the staff because we wanted to, but didn't tip the 15% and felt guilty that they might not have been paid their fair share. But paying them is the responsibility of the management, not the guests.

All said and done, Casa Solymar is a solid five stars and I would go back for a visit. Thank you, Monica, for making our stay a lovely one.

Beautiful vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Solymar. The home is very nicely furnished and maintained. Maria and Louis , the staff, are so helpful, considerate and kind, coming most days to keep the house in perfect shape. We especially loved the patio and pool for meals and pool fun with the family.

Maria cooked for us one evening and the meal was so delicious, highly recommended!

Our whole experience with Casa Solymar from the ease of booking to the final day was a pure pleasure.

One of our favorite adventures out was to take a guided snorkel tour of the Sac-Actun cenote outside of Tulum. We have snorkled many places but never thru a cave system. It was very safe and easy as it is a guided tour/ costs 30 dollars but well worth it.

We did not rent a car but hired a driver with a van for two of our days in order to get around. For a group of 7 it was economical and nice to not have to think about driving. The taxi cars and vans are parked right in Akumal each day. We loved our driver, George (or Jorge) , used him both days... Definitely ask for him.

Three families renting together

  • 4 of 5

We were three families, nine people in total, that enjoyed ten days at Solymar and we had a great time. We agree with previous reveiws: The house is a very nice and cosy all rooms in the house have an ocean view. The terrace and pool are a perfect. The level of comfort is high with a well equipped kitchen, excellent bedding, thick towels, daily housekeeping (very nice and helpful people) and the use of a golf cart (very nice)! Very nice beaches close by as well as a number of nice restaurants. Only downside was the garden house that did not have the same high standard as the rest of the Solymar.

Exactly like previous reviews "BUT"

  • 4 of 5

I would agree with all the other reviews except no one mentioned beach access. The only sandy beach you can go to close to the house is Turtle Bay which was so crowded that it felt like you were at Disney land. The tour groups bring in vans full of people from cancun all day long to swim with the turtles so there is not much room for you to relax on the beach and you end up snorkeling with droves of people. So if you are looking for a nice sandy beach with an ability to walk out and snorkle without crazy amounts of people everywhere this is probably not the best place. Otherwise everything is great with this property.

Grandchildren are a blessing!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was beyond our expectations! Our adventures included diving and snorkelling with our grandchildren and their parents. The golf cart was a true bonus. The accommodations are remarkable, six people can enjoy a lot of personal space. The pool was a hit!

The view was outstanding, sunrise was beautiful and we saw ocean activity from the pool area (boats and even a whale).

Marie and Luis were outstanding and treated us exceptionally well. Maria prepared a most enjoyable meal, yummy!

Restaurants are within walking distance and we enjoyed BBQing!

Monica (Property Mgr) was available for all questions. She recommended restaurants, stores, transportation etc.

Booking through Kelly was made easy by her willingness to make things right. She provided all the information we would need to have a memorable holiday.

Thank you Solymar, love to return in future.
