Tony y Vicky.. :-)
We live in Colorado, USA but love the ocean and the beach! It was one of my dreams to have an apartment in Cartagena. As a Colombian (and even an American) this is a dream come true.
Tony Forero or Vicky Fields purchased this condo in 2005
This is the dream location. We love my husband's country, the people and the food and especially because this city has the most beautiful old historic city in all South America!
I love the sound of the waves while I'm laying down in the bedroom or relaxing on the balcony. We are on the 22nd floor right in front of the beach and will never have anything to block our view. The sea breeze is delicious!
While enjoying having 'our own' beach, we love to explore the old city. Shops, restaurants and fun events are a regular thing. Don't forget a quick boat ride to diving or snorkeling at Isla Rosario!
For a beach, ocean destination and experiencing the history of South America Cartagena is the best!
Perched high up on the 22nd floor, this modern, up-to-date condo was the perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of leche' con cafe', watch a squadron of pelicans swoop down to the cresting waters in search of their breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, I appreciated the convenience of the granite counter tops, gas range and ample refrigerator space, all quite nice for saving money and eating in.
The beach, located just across the street, was perfect for body surfing, lounging and enjoying juicy fresh cut mangos and coconut candies offered by locals.
I slept like a baby, the kind of deep sleep you can only get on vacation. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful. Lots of hot water--a must on my list.
Perhaps, one of the nicest aspects of this condo was its affordable access to the old city of Cartagena. Balcony, beach and dining in the old city that seems to glow with vitality at night. So much to do and see.
I felt this condo was an excellent value, a great getaway, a safe place to visit a new world. Enjoy your visit as much as I did mine.
Overall the stay was amazing. Cartagena is a beautiful place and this condo made it much more enjoyable. The apartment was clean, had all amenities we needed to cook and clean our laundry, which made the stay better then any hotel imo.
There was a little trouble with check in, but Tony and Vicky were immediate with their responses and help. Even later on in the evening when I contacted them with a request to add a guest for authorization. They were fairly quick to respond and genuinely helpful and understanding.
By no means is this place a party building or noisy, but if you're looking for a gorgeous, updated, modern place to relax after enjoying Cartagena. Then this place is just for you
The apartment was very nice and close to the old city. Nice beach just below. Oil was marvelous
We stayed six nights in this clean, modern, spacious apartment that had everything we needed for our wonderful vacation in Cartagena. It has two large and comfortable bedrooms, two modern, well-appointed bathrooms, a really nice kitchen with granite countertops, etc., small dining area, and living room. All the furniture was very comfortable for relaxing when we weren't out and about at the beach, pool, or Centro. Perfect for 2 adults with a teenager. Best of all: the balcony with expansive views of the ocean, and comfy furniture for your morning coffee, late afternoon Scrabble game, or a glass of wine.
- the 24 hour security personnel at the front door were all very friendly and helpful;
- the pool/jacuzzi is a lovely spot for relaxing (more views of the ocean!)
- the beach is right across the street, not very crowded, not at all touristy. Rent a small canopy and chairs for a few thousand pesos. Note there are some waves here, not like other parts of the Caribbean where the water is still. Water is warm and lovely.
- plentiful taxis for a quick and inexpensive ride to the old city (centro), Bocagrande, or the Castillo;
- a small market a block and a half away for essentials -- milk, coffee, eggs, bread, fruit, etc. (note that it is cash-only)
- a couple of family-run restaurants within walking distance
- countless restaurant choices in the old city (Centro)
Vicky and Tony made sure we had everything we needed. We loved Cartagena!
The AltaMar condo run by Vicky and Tony was very comfortable and perfect for our vacation getaway!
The balcony has a great view and is wonderfully relaxing. The patio furniture was comfortable and we loved spending time out there. The master bedroom is roomy with a really fun master shower that looks out over the ocean. The kitchen is compact but has everything we needed. The washer/dryer combo was a little complicated but we got it after a load or two.
I love the beach in front of the building! It’s fun to play in the waves, or watch the local kids play in the surf; and has vendors ready to sell you fruit or cervesas. Which is what you need on a hot day!
This building is close to the old city but not in it, which means it is much quieter than the old city. When we do want to get to the old city for restaurants or music or shopping, it’s just a short taxi ride away.
The pool was under renovation ☹, but it is the tropics and maintenance is an ongoing issue. Fortunately the beach is a super alternative!
Tony and Vicky were great about letting us know about how things work and Zuny was there to answer any questions we had about changing currency or grocery shopping or any other issue.
My wife and I had a terrific, romantic vacation.
THERE IS NO GOOD reason to stay here (there are many many other rentals at the same price vastly superior) without the gorgeous never ending pool, which was EMPTY and under construction to our astonishment. The owners ,Tony and Vicky, knew about this and DIDN”T ADVISE US. Then they excused it in an email, noting it as A SMALL THING. No pool” in Cartagena is “NO SMALL THING”. ( the sea in this area is not inviting.) Further, after checking in, we were informed it is preferable not to drink the tap water, and advised to get bottled water from the market. These owners then conceded they usually furnish a days worth of bottled water. Which was not there. .Quite the inconvenience taking cabs to and from the market lugging heavy water jugs on vacation.
In other residences we’ve stayed, homeowners generously supply the following niceties without listing them as amenities, but as welcoming items for their guests convenience.
1) Bath Mats
2) Beach towels
3) hair blower
4) coffee filter
5) detergent (for ! wash)
6) New clean sponge
7) decent pillows.
THIS PLACE SUPPLIED NONE OF THE ABOVE !!! Very unwelcoming to say the least.
These owners are the cheapest hosts we've ever encountered ,with misrepresenting the status of the pool this rental is A TOTALLY BAD CHOICE.
AS if all this wasn’t enough, the property is advertised as 6 blocks from the city. We when pinned down what a block is defined by the owner Tony, 6 blocks turned into 1 mile.
WE checked out an hour after we arrived.
We found another place 3x the price, but considering the shape we found ourselves in, we indulged and enjoyed the luxury.
It is our OPINION,Tony and Vicky should be ashamed , they are not worthy of being a host to anyone.

The Centro Historico, or the Old City as we call it, is a beautiful 600 year old Colonial city. One of the oldest in the Caribbean. From restaurants, museums, shops, street performers or great Salsa Clubs this is a unique destination stop only 5 minutes away by Taxi or a 20 minute walk.
The fabulous tourist district of Boca Grande is only a 10 minute ride from the front door. Great Shopping and Restaurants. Not to mention the Submarino Ceviche kiosk outside Hotel Caribe. A standard in Cartagena for 45 years!
Brand new MegaTiendas is now open 6 blocks from Alta Mar, to fill up the frig for your stay.
Enjoy the beach all day right in front of the building. Or walk to Chinaguita Beach just a couple of blocks up from the building. Take a right from the main entrance. You'll see tents, umbrellas and sun beds. They have cold beer and a full bar available.
Enjoy site seeing at the Centro Historico or the Castillo San Felipe. The old fortress used to guard Cartagena from Caribbean pirates.
If the city is not enough then you can take a boat ride to Isla Rosario for snorkeling, scuba diving or lunch at another beautiful beach.
A vacation in Cartagena is laid back but fun too!
