newly built house is located on a 100 acre property of woods, vineyards and meadows. The property itself has been featured in many magazines and newspapers because the main home (our residence) is an award winning home built in 1948 and designed by Pietro Belluschi, who was a prominent Northwest architect and Dean of the School of Architecture at MIT. The 1/4 mile private road takes you over a stream, past a large pond (which the grey herons call home) and up the hill. At the vineyard, the road splits off, one part leading to the main house, and the other leading to the newly constructed Vineyard House. The 16 acres of vineyards are yours to roam about in, perhaps with a glass of pinot noir in hand. The Vineyard House itself is located beneath several magnificent ancient oaks, which add to the sense of stillness and complete privacy.
The large deck around the front of the house is a perfect setting for drinking your morning coffee, or sipping your evening glass of complimentary Menefee Vineyards designated wine. Once inside the house, you will enjoy a large living /dining room, with floor to ceiling windows that frame the valley views below. The vineyards surround this home.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessities to cook gourmet meals, including a gas stove. The black granite countertops and eating island make it a delightful place to sit while some clever person whips up something delicious to eat.
There are two bedrooms - both have queen size beds. One of these beds is a Murphy bed. Should you need only one bedroom, this second room is perfect to use as a study/office for extended stays. Each bedroom has a bathroom. There is also a small laundry room - especially helpful if you have been hiking through the woods, or have offered your services to help with harvest in any of the vineyards in the area.
The surroundings are completely private. You may, however, have an occasional deer peering in through a window, but they generally prefer to eat the newly planted landscaping. A hammock under the big oak trees is a perfect way to relax after a day of wine tasting. There are many trails to hike on, and several guests have spent good parts of their days riding through the country side on bikes. If you like to fish, you can try your luck in the stream at the bottom of the property, or drive to nearby Haag Lake.
Should one choose to not cook, there are numerous restaurants in the area. A list of the local restaurants, as well as a list of the vineyards and their tasting rooms, will be available. You will be greeted upon your arrival with multi-colored fresh eggs, offered by the 'girls' (hens) who live by the main house below. A few amenities for breakfast, as well as a bottle of our white and one of our red, await your arrival.
The swimming pool is generally open during the summer season and is available, subject to an additional fee. Weather permitting, the spa is open year-round.
Our names are Cecilia and Robert Katz. We live on a 100 acre property which includes our home, a working vineyard, woods and pastures, and our most recent addition, the Vineyard House. We are transplanted Californians but have lived in Oregon for many years. While we are both European born, our respective families immigrated to the United States many decades ago and we have lived in the USA for most of our lives. We do not make wine but we sell our grapes to several prominent wineries in this area and have many friends and business associates who are involved in the Oregon wine industry. When we are not involved with our vineyard we enjoy time with our children and grandchildren and travel.
owner/property manager purchased this house in 2005
We bought this property in 2005 because some of our children had moved into this area and we wanted to be close-by. We also loved the beautiful setting and it's proximity to Portland and the Oregon coast. Our newly built Vineyard House is on the site of a caretaker home that we demolished and construction was completed in June 2014.
Vineyard House was designed by a well respected local architect. We asked him to design a cozy, intimate home that would give anyone living here the feeling that they were, indeed, living in a vineyard. We feel that he succeeded in his effort. We used a local builder whom we've known for many years who brought practical experience and a strong work ethic to achieve a great result. While we've included many photos, they do not really do justice and no photo can convey the feeling that you get when sitting in the living room, or cooking in the kitchen, or laying in bed, and looking out, seeing and feeling the vineyard and the surrounding area. We are off the beaten path so you won't be bothered by the typical urban/suburban noise, lights, or traffic. And yet, you are only a short drive away from the best that Yamhill County has to offer.
We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable holiday than we had at the Vineyard House in Yamhill, OR. The setting was stunning, located in the heart of wine country. Great restaurants & cafes within a short drive and the Pacific Ocean (Cannon Beach) is only an hour and a half drive away.
Everything was perfect from Cecilia's warm and generous hospitality, fresh eggs & veggies, beautiful scenery from sunrise to sunset over the vineyard. The vineyard house was beautifully designed with a great cooks kitchen, lovely art hanging in all the rooms and an extremely comfy bed!
We loved our stay and can't wait to return!!
Thanks so much Cecilia.
A five day stay at the Vineyard House wasn't long enough! The tranquil setting overlooking the vineyard and the Willamette Valley is spectacular! The home is comfortable, well-equipped and oh so peaceful. We spent our days wine tasting and exploring, cooked "at home" and relaxed to the sounds of nature in the evening.
Perfect accomodations for one or two couples. The home is well represented by the pictures on this site, except for the amazing view, which must be seen to be appreciated. Lots of information on things to do, wineries and restaurants was supplied by our hosts. Highly recommend this home.
We stayed at the Vineyard House for 4 nights over Labor Day weekend as two couples and can't rave enough about the house. The location is perfect - it's private, secluded and the scenery is stunning but you are only a 10 minute drive from Yamhill and maybe 15-20 minutes from tons of wineries in the Valley. There are plenty of good restaurants in nearby Newberg and Carlton but we found it best to have lunch while we were out wine tasting and then cook dinners at the house in the evening. You really want to be back there by dusk anyway to see the sunset over the vineyard with a glass of wine in hand.
The house is a great setup for a single couple or for two couples as the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the house and you share a great common area. Everything is new, clean and modern but it's really the view from the patio and the floor to ceiling windows that is the biggest seller. We couldn't find a fault with anything. Drinking tea in the morning and wine in the evening with that view was so relaxing - I felt recharged by the end of the trip and was so sad to leave!
The hosts, Cecilia and Robert, are wonderful people with such great energy. They have an amazing house and property and we're so glad they are generous enough to share it with strangers. She was kind enough to let us snip some herbs and take some veggies from her garden. Plus, she is full of information about the area and so helpful via email with all my questions, directions and recommendations.
Don's miss a stay at this incredible property. My husband and I have rented VRBO properties close to 10x and this is probably our favorite to date. We can't wait to plan a return visit.
We loved the Vineyard House. Having just spent five glorious weeks there, we cannot say enough about it. First, the house is new, architecturally interesting, a perfect size, and in a perfect wine country location.
Next, the kitchen is fully equipped with anything you need. Being a cook, that is essential. Cecelia and Robert, your hosts, provided fresh eggs from their "girls." They also listen to your needs, which is priceless. Cecelia knows her wine and many wine makers in the area. And she is happy to share her knowledge. Bravo!
Finally, Cecelia and Robert truly made our trip. Their positive energy and caring exceeded our wildest dreams. We travel extensively and own two VRBO houses ourselves. We set a high bar for the places we stay, and the Vineyard House exceeded it, by a mile!
Oh, did I mention the front deck overlooking the vineyard? Morning coffee and evening wine there--both a treat. We will be back to the Vineyard House.
Peaceful, clean, well designed property perfect for us (would work great for 2 couples also). The house if perfectly situated to watch the light change in the vineyard - I spent every morning watching the sunrise and every evening watching the sunset ....
We enjoyed the spacious main room and the constant views of the vineyard with the valley as a backdrop. Everything was clean, well designed and worked perfectly. We discovered the NW seafood company in Newberg and grilled restaurant quality salmon on the grill several nights. The fresh produce in the area made us look forward to dinners overlooking the vineyard. This was a lovely, relaxing spot and we will certainly return to see another season in the Oregon wine country.
With stunning views looking out across a beautiful vineyard and down the picturesque Pike Valley, this fantastic property manages to be both cozy and spacious at the same time. The bedrooms are bright and airy, the living room floor-to-ceiling windows jaw-dropping, and the kitchen filled with the latest stainless appliances. This incredibly relaxing retreat makes a perfect romantic weekend or a great base for winery excursions.
Vineyard House is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Within a 30 minute radius are a majority of the premiere wineries. The wine industry has had tremendous growth in this area and is known world-wide for it's Pinot grapes. The county seat is in McMinnville, OR which is about 30 minutes away. All modern conveniences and amenities are available.
