Villa Solana is a studio cottage hideaway hidden behind a wall of a fragrant jasmine hedge. Villa Solana is tucked between the larger Villa Tranquila (VRBO 737991 vrbo #737991) and Villa Del Mar (not listed at this time). Travelers may be able to rent a one bedroom plus the studio for groups of up to 10 for special occasions. Just 2 blocks from the beach, our Villas offer fresh ocean air and one can fall asleep to the sound of waves crashing at night.
Villa Solana is a quaint studio (no separate bedroom) with a private patio space. It is a peaceful spot with a relaxed, happy vibe. The patio is set up for indoor-outdoor living with a table, umbrella, and seating for 4. The Interior is, cozy and cute with much of the original 1940's character. There is a full size fridge and a petite gas range as well as a microwave and other kitchen basics. It is ideal for a single person or a couple. A third person can be accommodated on a hide-a-bed cot. It is relatively pet-proof and we welcome quiet and harmless pets. Villa Solana is near a bus stop and walking distance from restaurants, coffee shops, a bakery/deli, boutiques, convenience stores, grocery, and parks. Dog sitting, walks, feedings, and sometimes boarding can be provided by our network caregivers so your dog can enjoy the times you are not available to spoil him/her.
We are happy to book one or two night stays if they abutt another reservation or fill a gap between longer reservations. To better accommodate those staying only one or two nights, we changed from a weekly cleaning fee to a graduated pre-paid cleaning fee (the posted rate plus $5/night).
"My standard rate" is the rate for last minute rentals between other bookings or a 9 month lease. The "standard rate" applies only to last minute, off season bookings or long term, off-season rentals.
Our family has managed coastal rentals in La Jolla for 17 years. Bill built his first apartments in the 1950's. Since then our family has been involved in property management and providing homes and vacations for wonderful people.
This home has unique character and charm. It is a simple, no-frills setup at budget prices and with all the basics but nothing fancy. Those who love the charm of an older home will enjoy it. Just next door is the nicer and larger Villa Tranquila if you are looking for a prettier or more spacious place to have your vacation. The cottages can be rented together as well to accommodate up to 9 persons (2 queens, one full, one hide a bed cot and one air mattress available). The cottage is super cute with lots of natural light and ventilation. It is pet-friendly as well. The owners will happily point out dog-friendly restaurants as well as dog parks and beaches. The short stroll to the beach means you can catch every sunset. The hotel across the street can accommodate additional guests and there are other vacation rentals on the block if you happen to have a large group. The public pool is about 6 blocks away.
My wife and I stayed here for a few days because we had a wedding to go to about 30 miles away and wanted to spend sometime close to the beach for our own anniversary. This place was small but it was great. The bed was comfortable and everything worked. Nikki was there when we arrived and helped us with whatever we needed. There is no A/C but the ceiling fan was perfect and all we needed. I was not hot or cold as we left the windows open at night with no issues at all. The area had parking and was about 2 blocks from the beach. A short walk away. Then at night we took a $5 Uber to the restaurants and bar. It worked out great. We really had a great time. I would definitely go back if we get another opportunity to head out to the west coast.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Villa Solana over Memorial Day Weekend and it was excellent! The front patio with the outdoor string lights was charming during the evening and the inside had everything we needed. Windansea beach is quite literally a two minute walk from this Villa and makes for an absolutely beautiful run, beach and/or surf day. While this Villa is small, it is perfect for two people on a vacation. This part of La Jolla is relatively quiet, but with many restaurants and night spots you can walk to within ~10/15 minutes. It was extremely easy to travel anywhere via Uber and/or Lyft (ie. downtown La Jolla, San Diego, etc...). There is also free street parking should you need it!
We had a really nice stay at the Villa Solana. The bed was super comfortable and the studio had a nice breeze running through it which made for a lovely afternoon nap. The beach is within walking distance and uncrowded. It's a great place to watch some really great surfers. We enjoyed the pet friendly atmosphere even though we didn't bring our dogs. We would definitely stay there again.
PROS: My trip was last minute & they made it easy for me to book! I loved the entrance with the jasmine hedge. The patio had the wonderful fragrance of the jasmine & I could hear the waves! It was a short walk to the beach (Windnsea). The place was small but big enough for me & my dog, comfortable, too! I cooked a few meals there so it was great to have the fridge & stove/oven. Parking was close with no stairs!
CONS: I emailed to see if I could check in earlier than 5pm. They responded & apologized at 9:30pm after I had already checked in, saying I could have arrived early. Bummer, since I was off all day & driving in from OC. It would have been nice to avoid the rush hour traffic. They did let me check out late, so that was a plus! It also would have been nice to have been given the combo to the gate lock before I arrived. Not a big deal but I spent some time pulling up the info online on my phone to read it all again trying to get in, only to realize I needed to contact them. Got in the gate & still didn't know where the key was. All could have been avoided with a simple text or email in advance from them. Sorry to knit pick but customer service is key to happy customers! 😊
My daughter and I had a fantastic 6-night stay at the Villa Solana during her Spring Break. The Villa is a studio cottage that manages to incorporate everything you need to have a fun vacation by the beach. The bed is very comfortable (there's also a pull-out bed but we didn't use it), there is a full kitchen, a nice bathroom, and a private patio. Everything is small but cozy. The house is set back from the street so it feels very private. Although we brought no pets of our own (we have cats at home), meeting Nikki and her pups was awesome!
Walking and hiking paths just 2 blocks away are great for walkers, bicyclists and dog owners.
