About the property

Cozy country home in quaint Talcott, WV

Beautiful fully-furnished, 3 bedroom (bedroom 1 has a queen-size bed, bedroom 2 has a full-size bed and bedroom 3 has a full-size bed), plus full size sleep sofa in the living room(extra linen and pillows can be found in the closet by the full bathroom), 1 1/2 bath "country getaway" home in Talcott. Family and pet friendly! Prior approval and pet fee required. Recently renovated with all the comforts you would expect. Easily reached, up on the hill from the main road (Rt. 3 & 12) through town.

Children and adults are thrilled to sit on the deck and watch the trains go by. There is a railroad crossing at the bottom of the hill and you will hear train whistles throughout the day and night, which may be loud and disruptive. Across the road and the railroad tracks is the beautiful Greenbrier River, great for fishing, tubing and swimming. There is public access for launching your boat, canoe, raft or kayak within walking distance from the house. Enjoy John Henry Days in July and watch the parade from the wraparound deck as it makes its turn.

It is a short 5-30 minute drive to Pipestem State Park and Bluestone Lake and State Park and Greenbrier State Park to the east. Stay here and attend The Greenbrier Classic, one of the PGA's finest golf tournaments held annually at the historic Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, a short drive away. Play golf where the pros play at several other area golf courses. Attend the West Virginia State Fair in August.

This area is good for all seasons. Watch the West Virginia Hills change from lush green to glorious shades of red and gold in the Fall. Short 35 minute drive to Winterplace and 1 1/2 hour drive to Snowshoe Mountain for skiers and snowboarders. Celebrate holidays with friends and family.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Sue Ray. I would like to give you some feedback on our stay. First, the setting is nice, close to the river which suited our needs well. Access to the house was not a problem at all even though we arrived around midnight or later. The house was well decorated and well furnished with everything we needed. We walked in and we all felt right at home! Central air was a bonus as we thought there were only window units! Deck was beautiful! We had a GREAT stay, and would stay there again. The only issues were a few rather large balls of dust, and animal hairs on the floors, and dark hairs on the sink in the main bathroom. Also we had to scrub the bathtub. I would say, if you would step up the cleaning a couple of notches, you would have an AWESOME review from us. Thank you. And we will likely stay with you again!

I would also say that despite the few concerns we had, we would rate our stay with you 4.5 of 5 stars. Thanks again!

Outstanding property

  • 5 of 5

This property was beautiful and in a great location for us. My family owns property on the Greenbriar but for occasions like John Henry Days in Talcott, the cabin can get a little crowded so having this house available was wonderful. The view of the mountains in the morning is breathtaking and the very short walk to the river is wonderful. We loved it and plan to book again. I have two suggestions, one there needs to be a first aid kit somewhere as well as directions for rebooting the router. Again, great location for us and we will be back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review our house. It's great to hear someone who appreciates the beauty surrounding the Greenbrier river, as we do. We will take your suggestions and add the first aid kit in the bathroom and will add rebooting info in our guest information notebook. Thanks again and we look forward to your next visit.

Charming little house

  • 4 of 5

This house had everything we needed for a long weekend fishing trip. Driveway was a little step and 4 wheel drive was helpful to prevent tearing up the gravel too much, but that is part of the charm of this part of West Virginia.

Awesome deck for stargazing

  • 5 of 5

The thing that led us to rent the house was the photo of the big deck. Our goal for the trip was to see the stars and we knew the deck would be perfect for that. We were originally thinking of staying at a cabin. We live about 20 miles from Washington, D.C.. At the cottage, the first night, when it was dark, we went on the deck and saw a view we had not seen in years. Thousands of stars.

Additionally, there are two state parks and plenty of fishing locations.

The house had a pristine white tiled master bath with pristine white towels, washcloths, etc. The kitchen had everything we needed - plenty of cooking pots and utensils, plenty of dishes, flatware, etc. Everything was clean throughout. We enjoyed the large living room/family room with satellite TV and excellent reception, and more. Every bedroom had a tv. When we got to town we went straight to the store/gas station/diner mentioned in the directions. They knew exactly where we were going. The cottage was basically just around the corner from the store.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
