Overview

Merrimack Valley & Essex County Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

You can really have it all in Gloucester's inner harbor.

Private pool (OPEN: mid-May - mid-Sept & unheated), garden landscape, panoramic views of Gloucester harbor AND less than 1-mile walk to Good Harbor Beach.

WE DO NOT ALLOW LONG TERM STAYS, TWO-WEEK MAXIMUM.

This 2BR apartment comfortably accommodates four on vacation or in town for a graduation weekend, college visits, but it’s also a perfect getaway for anyone looking for a small slice of Heaven on Cape Ann during the off season.

Past guests repeatedly say this apartment is bigger in person and the space looks just like the pictures online. Several said this property is the very best VRBO/HomeAway accommodation they have ever rented. They also write about how cozy and comfy the apartment is, many feel right at home, right away. Just read our stellar reviews.

This apartment is on the second floor of our house, where we live, with our amazing views of Gloucester's Inner Harbor. Within this apartment, there are two bedrooms each with its own private bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed and a hidden trundle bed for young children with a full bathroom with soaking tub. The second bedroom, off of the living area, has a queen bed and a bathroom with a shower stall. Each bedroom is ideal for couples traveling together, but the twin & trundle bed make it flexible for up to 6 people. The living room couch is extra long and comfy for sleeping but it is not a sleep-sofa.

The apartment has its own separate entrance and our guests tell they feel they have a lot of privacy while staying with us, even though we share the same house. There is off-street parking for up to 3 cars. The open living-dining space has a dining room table that can seat 4, flat screen TV with basic cable, WiFi, a comfy sofa with coffee table, two over-sized chairs, and a breakfast bar with 4 stools at the kitchen counter. The well-equipped kitchen has an oven/stove, fridge with freezer, coffeemaker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and full set of dishes, pots & pans, flatware and many utensils. If anything is missing, just let us know. We’re right downstairs!

I am Rebecca and manage this property. I live on the first floor below this apartment with my retired mother, Dot, (aka 'Gloucester Quilter') who quilts and gardens at home. One of us is always on hand to attend to any question or concern.

We are very knowledgeable about how best to experience the North Shore and day trips in our region and towns across New England. PLEASE submit a property inquiry through this portal for a personalized quote. We will reply with a quote along with our comprehensive, 6-page, visitors guide which includes heaps of local do's and don'ts.

About Rebecca Borden

My mother has owned in this property since 2000. I moved back home in 2009 to help support her. We decided to join VRBO in Nov'11 after we had such a positive experience renting ourselves through VBRO. We have enjoyed hosting some great guests from all over the country and internationally!

This apartment is an 'in-law' apartment on the second floor of the house where we live on the first floor. We love sharing our property, pool (in summer) and landscape with our guests. As our reviews confirm, we have had many happy guests.

We do not rent for extended stays because, while we have had many amazing visitors, we did have a few bad apples . We are cautious about sharing our property with incompatible 'neighbors' for extended stays. Those are our terms and we hope you respect our perspective.

As a policy, we do not give out our address for privacy and security reasons. We live here along with our neighbors in one of the best kept secret locations on Cape Ann. We feel our online reviews speak for themselves.

Why Rebecca Borden chose Merrimack Valley & Essex County

Gloucester and Cape Ann are an hour from Boston. We have amazing beaches, rich history and cultural legacy and award winning restaurants. You can easily take a day trip to Boston by commuter rail and come back and see a glorious sunset over the harbor.

What makes this apartment unique

We love sharing our views, pool and property with guests. Gloucester is such a great area to visit and vacation!

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was so cozy! We had a great time. The view is so peaceful and relaxing. You can sit outside or in the living room to enjoy the view. The pool was so refreshing after a day of sightseeing.

Rebbecca and Dot were wonderful hosts. They gave us awesome recommendations on where to eat and visit that were not on our plans! We had a great time.

I would highly recommend staying here as it is very peaceful and quiet yet close to so much!!!

Will go back next time I visit Gloucester!

  • 5 of 5

Dot and Rebecca were very helpful and friendly. Dot brought us up as soon as we arrived and showed us the apartment and pointed to points of interest on the map, answered any questions. They have a notepad for inquiries in the hallway for inquiries which was a great idea. The house was so comfortable, had all the amenities we needed. If you forget something like shampoo or soap, don't worry they probably have it. The views from the house and the property were breathtaking. Went jogging from the house to the beach almost every day. Only 10 minute jog to beach. We were planning on doing two day trips to Boston, but Gloucester and Rockport were so pretty, we stayed here the second day. Did a Seven Seas whale tour, saw Fin whales, a basking shark, Minke whales and a Humpback at Stellawagon Bank. Highly recommend the Studio in Gloucester. Delicious seafood and waterfront dining. They have periodic half price nights. Had another day of shopping in Rockport, a little quaint art district. Next time we come back will do the boat tour of lighthouses around Gloucester and Rockport. This trip we stayed Monday through Thursday. Friday we went to Salem and Marblehead but wished we had an additional night at the house and another day in this area.

The master bedroom is much bigger than it looks in the pictures. Comfortable beds. It was very quiet at night and it was so nice to be able to open the windows and smell the salt air. Their are lots of extra blankets, pillow and closets for your use. They have a big table for eating and playing games and a living room with gorgeous views of the harbor. Big refridgerator in the kitchen with stove, microwave, lots of cupboards. Dot and Rebecca walk their adorable, friendly labs a few times a day and let you pet them. Could not even tell they had dogs unless you saw them going for a walk.

The property is situated on four acres that are well maintained with blooming perennial gardens, a pond, natural boulders throughout and on a precipice so you have the astounding views.

I recommend staying at this house.

Owner's Response: WOW! I don't think I could write a more comprehensive review if I tried! She covered all the bases, including other towns and sights we recommend to explore nearby. Thanks Laura!

Book this immediately...

  • 5 of 5

I met a friend to spend a few days touring Cape Ann and had been looking for a private cottage or small house. I am so glad I picked this rental instead. Having Rebecca and Dot on the premises was a real plus...they were gracious and helpful and are so very quiet, you have the feeling you have the house to yourself. And...the bonus was having two bedrooms, each with bath.

Other renters have said how warm and cozy it is, but they did not mention how many items are so thoughtfully included. With most rentals you have to do a major shopping for incidentals ( salt & pepper, paper towels, dishwashing soap, condiments, etc. ) These were provided, plus coffee and tea...even shampoo and conditioner. So convenient.

The bathrooms and kitchen were spacious and modern and each room had an A/C and they also included a number of fans.

We felt at home immediately and looked forward to our return to Pilot's Hill after a day of touring. Do not hesitate to book this rental...it is simply great!

Idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

I could have looked out of the window in the living room across the bay for ever! This is a very comfortable apartment upstairs from the owners own home. It is made personal by the inclusion of Dor's lovely quilts. The kitchen was very well provided and there was a note inviting us to pop downstairs if there was anything else needed. Although the weather was not good enough for us to try the walk to the beach from the house we did enjoy sitting in the garden when the sun eventually came out. It is very well situated to visit Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-on-Sea by car. Dot and Rebecca were very friendly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and wish we had been able to stay longer.

Owner's Response: Carol, we loved having you enjoy our property and taking in all that the Cape Ann region has to offer. You made the most of our comprehensive visitors guide and were still able to find the necessary refuge to relax and recharge in our cozy apartment. I loved that, when you arrived, you muttered under your breath how you thought the last property you stayed at couldn't be topped. It was great complement and validation. Alas, we cannot control the weather. It's spring New England so wait a day, as we like to say.
