Prime Gloucester Property - Overlooking Harbor with Private Pool

Sleeps6

Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

You can really have it all in Gloucester's inner harbor.

Private pool (OPEN: mid-May - mid-Sept & unheated), garden landscape, panoramic views of Gloucester harbor AND less than 1-mile walk to Good Harbor Beach.

WE DO NOT ALLOW LONG TERM STAYS, TWO-WEEK MAXIMUM.

This 2BR apartment comfortably accommodates four on vacation or in town for a graduation weekend, college visits, but it’s also a perfect getaway for anyone looking for a small slice of Heaven on Cape Ann during the off season.

Past guests repeatedly say this apartment is bigger in person and the space looks just like the pictures online. Several said this property is the very best VRBO/HomeAway accommodation they have ever rented. They also write about how cozy and comfy the apartment is, many feel right at home, right away. Just read our stellar reviews.

This apartment is on the second floor of our house, where we live, with our amazing views of Gloucester's Inner Harbor. Within this apartment, there are two bedrooms each with its own private bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a twin bed and a hidden trundle bed for young children with a full bathroom with soaking tub. The second bedroom, off of the living area, has a queen bed and a bathroom with a shower stall. Each bedroom is ideal for couples traveling together, but the twin & trundle bed make it flexible for up to 6 people. The living room couch is extra long and comfy for sleeping but it is not a sleep-sofa.

The apartment has its own separate entrance and our guests tell they feel they have a lot of privacy while staying with us, even though we share the same house. There is off-street parking for up to 3 cars. The open living-dining space has a dining room table that can seat 4, flat screen TV with basic cable, WiFi, a comfy sofa with coffee table, two over-sized chairs, and a breakfast bar with 4 stools at the kitchen counter. The well-equipped kitchen has an oven/stove, fridge with freezer, coffeemaker, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and full set of dishes, pots & pans, flatware and many utensils. If anything is missing, just let us know. We’re right downstairs!

I am Rebecca and manage this property. I live on the first floor below this apartment with my retired mother, Dot, (aka 'Gloucester Quilter') who quilts and gardens at home. One of us is always on hand to attend to any question or concern.

We are very knowledgeable about how best to experience the North Shore and day trips in our region and towns across New England. PLEASE submit a property inquiry through this portal for a personalized quote. We will reply with a quote along with our comprehensive, 6-page, visitors guide which includes heaps of local do's and don'ts.

About Rebecca Borden

My mother has owned in this property since 2000. I moved back home in 2009 to help support her. We decided to join VRBO in Nov'11 after we had such a positive experience renting ourselves through VBRO. We have enjoyed hosting some great guests from all over the country and internationally!

This apartment is an 'in-law' apartment on the second floor of the house where we live on the first floor. We love sharing our property, pool (in summer) and landscape with our guests. As our reviews confirm, we have had many happy guests.

We do not rent for extended stays because, while we have had many amazing visitors, we did have a few bad apples . We are cautious about sharing our property with incompatible 'neighbors' for extended stays. Those are our terms and we hope you respect our perspective.

As a policy, we do not give out our address for privacy and security reasons. We live here along with our neighbors in one of the best kept secret locations on Cape Ann. We feel our online reviews speak for themselves.

Rebecca Borden purchased this apartment in 2000

Why Rebecca Borden chose Merrimack Valley & Essex County

Gloucester and Cape Ann are an hour from Boston. We have amazing beaches, rich history and cultural legacy and award winning restaurants. You can easily take a day trip to Boston by commuter rail and come back and see a glorious sunset over the harbor.

What makes this apartment unique

We love sharing our views, pool and property with guests. Gloucester is such a great area to visit and vacation!

Tranquil setting overlooking Gloucester harbor. Nice floor plan, had options of using fans or A/C

  • 5 of 5

Both hosts were pleasant and had a notepad to converse if anything was needed. Felt like home, great kitchen and great views. Would stay again. If you like dogs, the 3 labs are very friendly, loving, and swim in the pool given the chance.

Quaint

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is the top part of owner's house. It is very quaint and authentic. Loved the rooms. Kitchen worked well and lots of sitting areas. Windows looked out at the bay and you could sit out on the lawn if you wished. We were very active and toured several areas not too far. There are a lot of lighthouses in area - loved Eastern Point. The House of the Seven Gables is not too far as well as several towns (Marblehead, Beverly, Salem, etc.). Gloucester is very nice and we could walk to the beach (10 minutes). Sunsets are gorgeous there. Wished we had more time at the beach. Owners are very nice and extremely helpful. They are well organized with sightseeing information (there is boxes of helpful information and maps). The apartment is roomy enough for a family of 5. There were only 3 of us so we had plenty of room. Loved the quilts. Nights were breezy and loved the windows opened (no need to turn on window air conditioner in June.

Great Experience, Great People

  • 5 of 5

This was our first booking with Home Away and it exceeded expectations.

Dot and Rebecca were wonderful and the property was every bit as advertised.

The rooms are spacious; the kitchen is fitted with every convenience and the view is excellent!!!

And our little dog was very happy to be with us. WE look forward to booking this property again.

Owner's Response: These guests drove 13hr straight from Ohio to get here and we really wanted to help them get settled and feel at home. They took many day trips: Salem, Newburyport, Boston Maine and more! There is so much you can experience within an hour drive from our property - to say nothing about what you can experience by staying put and deep exploring everything to do, see, eat and experience in Gloucester and Rockport.

A New England Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough good things, about our stay, in this beautiful historic New England home! If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing get-away.... then this is the perfect place!! The view, looking down, onto gloucester harbor is truly an amazing sight! Thank you, Dot and Rebecca, for making us feel right at home!!! We can't wait to return!! Rhonda & Kyle

Owner's Response: These guests have visited Gloucester many times but always they stayed in a hotel. They are new to HomeAway/VRBO and fell in love with the experience of having the privacy, comfort and pleasures of a short term vacation rental. They stayed in a lot, cooked on site and just relaxed - our kind of ideal guests! We can't wait for them to come back!

Beautiful location, not so nice a property

  • 1 of 5

I was tempted to give it 2 stars mainly because the owners were nice and the location was beautiful, but honestly my wife and son were so unhappy with the lack of cleanliness that I could not do it.

There were dust mites on every corner of the floors, the kitchen was dirty (my wife spent close to 45 minutes wiping down the counter and all other areas of the kitchen-including the inside of the refrigerator), my son complained of ants on their beds and the place needs a thorough cleaning. I have stayed in numerous VRBO/Home Away places and never ran into this bad a situation. The property needs updating, but I understand that is more difficult and expensive, however there is no excuse for renting a property that is not clean.

Owner's Response: I am offended by this guest's review on many levels. His opening reference to thinking about giving us 2 star rating because of our hospitality and amazing views speak more about him as guest and less about us as gracious hosts. To suggest that we are operating a filthy property is an extreme exaggeration on his behalf. As to the issue of ants: everyone in the neighborhood got ants this cold rainy spring. Justo informed us about "ants in a bedroom" by note only after he left; never did he mention this or any of his comment's issues in person during their 4-day stay. To recommend we update our historic home is a further insult to our proud New England heritage and the authentic family antiques we share with our guests. People love our property for exactly these reasons. 72, 5-star ratings and counting - speak volumes. Every other year or so we get a guest that can never be pleased. Was this response helpful?

Lovely property and very helpful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

It is very unfortunate that we could not enjoy the pool because it looked inviting, but we enjoyed the property and we had everything we needed. Many beautiful things to see in the area and we learned that from the gracious host. Great trip!

Owner's Response: We loved this family that loved enjoying our property. They came here with their kids to learn more about our nation's history; Massachusetts was the birthplace of the American Revolution. We're an hour from Boston, Lexington and Concord. Rebecca & Dot
