Varen Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 two-bedroom gites each capable of accommodating 4/5 people in a rural area.

You will find us in the hamlet of St Martial in the Midi-Pyrenees in an area of unspoiled natural beauty. The main house is an old winery which dates back to 1835 and we have 2 two-bedroom gites (each suitable for 4/5 people) which have retained the characteristics of the old house whilst incorporating the comforts of modern life. Whether you like exploring local historic and beautiful villages, get up and go sporting activities or just lazing by the pool while the kids play safely, Bonbois is the place for you.

Both gites benefit from TV, radio, Wi-Fi and a DVD player. The gites may be rented separately or together.

One gite, Olivier, is a two-bedroom self-contained apartment on the ground floor of the main house with direct access to the swimming pool and rear garden. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a microwave/grill and a gas hob and a living area with doors leading to your own covered seating area equipped with a charcoal barbecue. This terraced area is perfect for breakfast, evening meals or just sitting listening to the birdsong. Bedroom 1 is spacious and airy with a large double bed. This leads on to bedroom 2 where there are two single beds. A cot is also available. Bed linen and towels are provided and there is a washing machine available.

Gite Cerisier Is a separate two bedroomed cottage with a large shaded table outside, perfect for alfresco eating. Access to the pool is through the old stone tobacco-drying area. It has a fully equipped kitchen with microwave/grill, a gas hob and a dishwasher together with a large living area with comfortable seating and a wood burning stove. Bedroom 1 is an airy room with a large double bed. Upstairs the very spacious bedroom 2 has a large double bed and a third single bed is available if required. A washing machine is available to guests.

We have a large private pool with appropriate child safe locks and fencing, set in a secluded garden. Each gite has its own outside eating area. There is also a stone barn, formerly a tobacco drying area, away, from the bedrooms, which can be used by kids in the daytime to get away from the summer heat or play if it rains, and in the evening for parents to get away from the kids-- but remain close by.

We also have a fully equipped photo studio, and guidance as to its use can be given if required.

We chose to live here because of the stunning scenery and because St Martial is near to so many beautiful towns and villages. Historic Najac is only 8 km away, and both St Antonin-Noble-Val (where the Helen Mirren film 'The 100 foot journey' was filmed) and Cordes-sur-Ciel, rated as the most preferred French village in 2014 by the French people, are less than 30 minutes drive away. There are other stunning historic villages within easy travelling distance (less than an hour) such as Puycelsi, Caylus, Penne and Castelnau de Montmiral and some of which, like St Antonin, have been used for film settings such as Bruniquel. Lively markets, such as the Thursday market at Villefranche de Rouergue (half an hour's drive away) together with many reasonably priced but excellent restaurants make this a great place to visit, and in our case, live! With places like Albi (a World Heritage site) and Cahors less than an hour away there is always somewhere to explore or a bustling market to visit.

Situated close to the Aveyron Gorge you'll find plenty of activities such as climbing, hiking, horse riding and cycling nearby. The local rivers include the Aveyron, Viaur and Tarn, and the Lot is only an hour's drive away. If you want a change from swimming in our pool, a short trip down the hill to Laguepie provides safe swimming and sunbathing in summer.

There are many excellent local restaurants where you can try our regional cuisine with prices from €13 for a menu du jour 3-course lunch with wine and a variety of options for dinner ranging from pizzas to gourmet meals at beautifully located restaurants. If you want to travel further afield, the beautiful city of Toulouse is just over an hour away by train from our two local stations. About Gareth and Sarah Brown

Until 2013 my wife Sarah and I lived and worked in England and worked for over 30 years for multinational companies in stressful jobs. We decided some years ago that we would like to change our lifestyle at 'a certain age' and to live in France, a country we had visited many times. We have both visited many countries in the world, but France remains one of our favourites and is a great place to live.

We chose this property because of its location

and the way the natural stone fits within its surroundings, the lush vegetation and the tranquillity of the village. It is also great to have our own pool and the weather to enjoy it!

What makes this cottage unique

Being at 1000 feet/330m we get great views of the surrounding valleys. Particularly beautiful are the early mornings when we can see the mists lying in the deep valleys below while we are bathed in sunshine. The lack of light pollution gives us a great view of the stars, which is not possible in most urban and suburban areas anywhere in the world. Although we are in a rural area, there are many places nearby if we want to enjoy the benefits of a city, and with the roads being quiet, we can plan our journeys confident that we will get there in time!!

Tout d'abord Merci à Sarah et Gareth pour leur accueil dans leur gîte, leur sourire et leur convivialité.

Superbe région, que nous recommandons à tout ceux qui aiment la campagne, les belles pierres, les bons produits du terroir.

Nos 2 grands ados (15 et 18 ans) se sont régalés, entre le canoë, l'accrobranche, la randonnée équestre, et la baignade en rivière.

Le gite est spacieux et bien équipé, la piscine très agréable même si l'eau est un peu fraîche.

Merci à Sarah et Gareth pour panier gourmand qui nous attendait (pain-beurre-café-lait et rosé!).

Nous faisons de notre mieux pour rendre confortable le séjour de nos hôtes, afin qu’ils se sentent chez eux. Nous sommes désolés que l’eau de la piscine était un peu fraîche, mais c’est comme un cadeau quand le soleil réchauffe trop le peau!

Accueil chaleureux pour des vacances au calme !

Un grand merci à Sarah et Gareth pour leur excellent accueil et leur gentillesse !

Notre séjour de 2 semaines en Août 2015 s'est parfaitement bien passé, le gîte Olivier que nous occupions est très bien équipé et joliment décoré, avec en prime une jolie terrasse ombragée idéale aux heures les plus chaudes de la journée, un beau jardin et une belle piscine pour se rafraîchir... Nous avons particulièrement apprécié : le linge de lit et de toilette fourni chaque semaine, et des petites choses telles que la fourniture des gels douche et lavant, des produits d'entretien, des condiments (huile, vinaigre, herbes de Provence...), une bouteille de vin rosé de Gaillac au frais et un sachet de gourmandises nous attendaient à notre arrivée....bref des petites attentions bien sympathiques que l'on de trouvent pas partout !

Nous avons pu profiter pleinement du calme de St Martial et de la beauté de la région avec de nombreux villages médiévaux à visiter aux alentours...il y a un grand marché le dimanche matin à St Antonin Noble Val à ne pas rater avec des produits frais et du terroir...

La présence d'un deuxième gîte occupé au moment de notre séjour a permis à notre fille de 13 ans de se faire des copains de vacances.

En résumé, c'est une adresse que nous recommandons pour passer d'agréables vacances au calme.

Encore un grand merci à Sarah et à Gareth qui nous ont réservé un merveilleux accueil!
