About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

WELCOME! From the instant you enter the living area, you will drop your suitcases and stand in awe at the magnificent ocean and sea stacks seen a short distance below. Our condo is considered a prime location at Rainbow Rock because of its unobstructed over 180 degree view south down the Oregon Coast and west out to sea.

A truly beautiful few minutes private access walk along a well groomed winding path and over a wooden bridge to our private deeded beach will lead you to Rainbow Rock's own pot of gold, a cave with unique rock formations which are a geological wonder. When the sun is pouring into the cave colorful rocks go dancing before your very eyes! The beach has driftwood and sea stacks, star fish and mussels, and you will be able to have enjoyable long walks along the coast toward the town of Brookings. Access to this beach is private, for owners and their guests (that's you!) and more often than not, you will have it all to yourselves!

If you like whale watching, pristine tide pools, beachcombing, star gazing, sensational sunsets, hiking (the Coastal Trail is practically at your door step), and sitting in the condo or on the deck watching the waves roll in, then you've picked the perfect place--our balcony! Seasonally, whales stop to socialize with one another right in front of the Rainbow Rock condos, often staying for days at a time. They seem to love showing off by spouting and flipping their tails up in the air, almost like they are inviting you to come play. There is a lookout place just below our condo on Highway 101 (the Coastal Highway) where people pull over to whale watch. The fantastic Harris Beach State Park, just a mile or so away, has a group of locals who offer whale watching tips during winter migration to Mexico where, in the warmer waters of Baja, their babies are born.

Our condo is comfortable and family friendly. It is exceptionally CLEAN and well equiped with furnished linens and kitchen appliances. A gas BBQ is at the ready and a Jen Air stove has a grill. Everything from a popcorn popper to a breadmaker is available for your comfort and use. The master bedroom has its own bathroom and there is also a guest bathroom close to the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, the master bedroom has a king size bed, and there is a hide-a-bed in the living room. Pillows are all in protective covers as are the mattresses.

The ocean can be seen from most rooms in the condo, exceptions are the bathrooms and the guest bedroom which overlooks the Rainbow Rock complex. The rhythmic sound of the ocean can be heard from the living, masterbedroom, and kitchen areas, especially when the sliding glass doors and windows are open, adding to the atmosphere of being at the fabulous Oregon Coast. From this condo highway traffic is not heard so you can enjoy the deck while reading, visiting or just watching the exciting ocean scene. This is a top floor (3rd) end unit affording all the privacy you could want.

Keywords: Ocean front condo, gated community, private beaches, beautiful setting, easy pathway to beach, Coastal trail behind property, close to town activities, golf, hiking & fishing.

About Ron Vogel

We have greatly enjoyed our condo for the past decade. Until we retired in 2006, we were able to spend many long weekends, an easy drive from our home in California. It was always such a nice break from my husbands busy medical practice to relax for awhile at Rainbow Rock. Crabbing down at the wharf in Harbor, just across the bridge from Brookings and visiting local parks and beaches are what we like to do. We also love the nearby Redwood groves, forests and lighthouses along the Southern Oregon coast.

Ron Vogel purchased this condo in 2002

Why Ron Vogel chose Coastal Oregon

We love the Oregon Coast! We also have a large family and wanted to provide a place for them to enjoy. We had looked at many possibilities up and down the coast and liked Brookings best. This area of the Oregon coast is called the banana belt because of its warmer weather. Brookings is big enough for good places to eat and fun things to do but small enough to not feel hurried. It is close to wonderful things to see like the Redwoods and small port towns. It is a great location and on the ocean, couldn't ask for more! Our grandchildren find lots to do here and love to come visit us.....that's a big plus!

What makes this condo unique

Serenity, beauty, comfortable, safe gated community, nice people to meet, short walk to the beach through a lovely wooded area that is well kept, close to town, fishing, for starters. Wild blackberries grow along the mountain pathway below the condo and we enjoy picking them to eat and bake a pie. The Coastal Trail by the condo leads to a lookout over the ocean via a wooded pathway that crosses a little bridge, It is a nice walk through pines and ferns.

We'll Be Back!

  • 5 of 5

The condo had everything we needed. It was so nice to come home after a day of beach or sightseeing to relax. It really did feel like coming home. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony. We particularly liked sitting on the balcony at night with hot coffee wrapped up in throws enjoying the crisp, cool, sea air and watching the stars twinkle. Some of us couldn't do the hike up from the beach, but Harris Beach is so close and has ramps all the way down to the sand. It is also close to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods, the elk herd and the Ocean Beach Aquarium in Crescent City. So, everyone from the 17 mo old to the 77 year old had a wonderful beach experience. We have already talked about when we can come back. I appreciated how Nancy really cared about us and wanted us to have a good time. Her instructions were great and everything went without a hitch! Thanks, Nancy.

Owner's Response: From wild, raucous waves smashing into shore to a gentle, glass-like sea, you will have the best view of all, at our condo! The ocean does have many moods, color changes, whale action, fishing boasts going by and we, like you, love sitting on the deck and watching the action below.

Owner's Response: We have wonderful people who vacation rent from us! Sometimes we receive photos taken down on the beach or in our condo and often some details of their time in our beautiful area. Vacation renting has been a good experience for us as well as our guests.

The best view on the Oregon coast. Watched whales from the dining room. The beach below is magical!

Owner's Response: Whale watching from our condo is THE BEST and sightings can happen any time of the year, besides their annual trip to Baja and then back up to Alaska. This is because we have resident whales that roam our coast. Honestly, our view is truly spectacular!

Even with less than stellar weather the view was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the property in early March and the "Jaw-dropping View" is so very true. It being a top floor, end-unit, allowed panoramic views from the living areas. And they were stunning. The week we were there was gloomy, overcast, rainy, foggy, you name it. But the condo was cozy and the opportunity to get away was much needed. And for us, any time spent on the Oregon coast (we are from the east coast) is time well spent. We have stayed at several VRBO properties and I have to say that this one had the best-equipped kitchen that I have seen. The selection of appliances, cookware, pots, pans & tools (how many vacation rentals have a garlic press?) was impressive. Not that I did a lot of cooking while there, but if I wanted to I could have :-) The owners were responsive and helpful. The only small drawback was that the fireplace was one of the all in one electric portable units and not a real fireplace. I would happily recommend this property.

Wonderful views, cozy house and an affordable price!

  • 5 of 5

Three of my friends and I spent an amazing weekend here. Just like the name suggests, the view is extraordinary! There's a back patio that lets you sit in and take in the view. The condo is exactly as promised, it's tidy and cozy, and is well equipped for anything and everything. There was a storm in Brookings so we spend the night inside and found loads of board games, movies and plenty of room to feel comfortable.

The owners are both lovely people, very nice and personally wished me well before we got there. They are both delightful. I'll definitely be back!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. We can say, for sure, that our guests, through the years, have been exceptional. We are happy to share our place with others and are pleased when they let us know about their stay. You shouldn't be put-off by storms that roll into our area. They can be spectacular to watch as the ocean below boils and crashes into shore.

Home Base Away from Home

  • 4 of 5

This is a great property in a beautiful location. Has everything needed as a home away from home. Master suite is very nice and king bed comfortable. Second bedroom and bathroom made it idea for multiple people to share with privacy. We came to the area to do some outdoor work and it was a great place to come home to at the end of a hard day. We had an extra family member help us for a few days and the layout and second bath made it an idea place for a group like ours.

The only reason did not get 5 stars was that it took us a few days to figure out that in cold weather, with the door to the master suite closed, you have to run the electric fireplace in the living room to get the heat to even out. Otherwise the living room / kitchen is cool while the master suite is, frankly, hot. A minor drawback in an otherwise excellent property. On my list as a place to try next time we are in the area.

Owner's Response: Yes, the configuration of the condo rooms makes for convenience and privacy for all guests. As to the heat issues you mentioned, just closing the master bedroom vent solves the matter. And, as noted, the living area has two heat sources, the heater/air conditioning unit and the fireplace. We are glad that you plan a return to our place and welcome your visit!
