Alma de Mar was built by quality craftsman and is a lovely home designed for privacy and exploration of this beautiful area of Mexico. The craftsmanship from the beautiful wood to the pebble work, tile and gardens make Alma De mar a special place to enjoy. Troncones has become a desired destination in Mexico and our home provides wonderful privacy and serenity. The house has two large private bedrooms downstairs with a shared bath. A bedroom upstairs can be used seasonally (November - May) and has a private bath. The kitchen is current with amenities. The pool and patio are private and overlook a stunning cove perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The deck is equipped with comfortable adirondack chairs for lounging. The cove and beach are very private and quiet for spectacular sunsets. Manzanillo Bay and Majahua Village are just a short 5 minute walk from the house. The ocean will lull you to sleep every night. We maintain our home to the highest quality. We have a onsite caretaker and provide 6-day per week cleaning services. We also provide our guests with information about the area and opportunities to explore with your family and friends. We are from Santa Cruz California and have been traveling to Troncones for over 13 years. We surf and do yoga and we both love the nature of Troncones and the warm ocean and lovely community of the town. We would be happy to answer any questions you have about the house and Troncones. We go the house often to maintain and keep it looking new and comfortable for our family, friends and guests. We consider Alma de Mar first a family home and love to share it with people who will appreciate this beautiful area of Mexico.
Donna Meyers purchased this house in 2008
We discovered Troncones over 9 years ago on a surf/yoga trip and fell in love with the area. It is easily accessible, safe to travel to, has all the amenities you need with quality restaurants, beautiful natural surroundings, a friendly community, great surfing and a beautiful environment which we love.
We have tried to keep our home comfortable with quality furnishings and beds. We regularly update linens, furnishings, and special touches. We enjoy the decks and patios for lounging, bird watching, reading and napping. There is a surf spot for experienced surfers in front of the house. The beach and cove in front of the house are very quiet with a safe swimming and snorkeling area in the cove and lovely views for sunsets. Olive Ridley turtles nest on our beach from August to January. Humpback whales visit the area in January and February. Surfing is good throughout the year. Troncones and Majahua have the best of nature travel with good local restaurants and shops to explore. There are wonderful local tour operators for kayaking, surfing, cave exploring, and birding.
Our house is taken care of by a wonderful local family from the area. They have been working with us for over nine years and speak good English and make the home a special place for our guests. Your experience is very important to them and they will help you learn about the area, find things to do, and can help you with meals and other activities if desired.
This was our third visit to Alma de Mar. It has everything we want in a relaxing, tropical vacation -- great surf and boogie boarding; great beaches for walking, swimming and shell collecting; fishing; GREAT FOOD! (try the camarones-stuffed chile rellenos and/or the lobster at Cafe Mexicana!); friendly locals. Alma de Mar is fabulous -- comfortable and equipped with everything you need. And the pool is dreamy. This trip we had family join us and there was plenty of space for four adults. We'll be back!
That was the first word out of our mouths as we stepped into Alma de Mar - it was palatial! After we booked it, my husband realized that he knew the owner, double lucky for us. Our stay was beyond our expectations - we kayaked in the lagoon for birdwatching with Luis, released baby turtles at Roberto's, had dinner at Martha's (the best place for dining as everyone said), enjoyed seafood pozole at La Mexicana, bought veges & fruit off the traveling produce truck, had home made tortillas personally made by Elie, fished off the rocks and in a panga with a capitan recommended by Roberto, had our daily sunset margaritas on the beach, relaxed in the hammock, body surfed, dipped in the pool, walked for miles on the beaches (yes - there are three of them to explore), shopped in Troncones, and went local riding the bus. We explored the llittle village of Majahua and found a tienda that supplied us with all our necessities. Our questions were answered and we were well cared for by Roberto and Elie. We spent every day happily fulfilling our selves with all the delights that we wanted to do and more! Time to explore, relax, read, cook fresh fish, experiment with the produce we bought, and fill the senses. Alma de Mar was an architectural dream with great attention to detail and comfort - I took beaucoup photos of the floors, steps, bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, patio, deck and rooms - inspirational. The top floor with its netted bed, cozy bathroom and outdoor panorama made for a relaxing time out. We loved the sense that we had found the true spirit of Mexico in the beauty of the people, the beaches, the food, the towns, and our lovely home away from home. Our stay was not long enough to take in all we wanted to do: stand up paddle board, try out more restaurants . . . We promised ourselves that we would have to come back again!
We are lucky enough to be friends with the owners of this amazing beach house so we booked it thinking, "this will be great". Wow – were we wrong. It wasn't great, it was spectacular.
The house is situated at the end of a bumpy, dusty road that winds it's way through the lovely town of Troncones . Dotted with lovely places to eat, surf, shop and do yoga, Troncones is not your typical town in Mexico. Jardin del Eden and Present Moment were our favorite spots for yoga, food, happy hour and, occasionally, the internet. Our favorite meal was in Muhajua (next town North) at Martha's. Fresh, whole red snapper cooked to perfection and served with loving care by the owners.
The house is perfect. Open concept with few doors and a beach facing view that allows you to gaze out into the ocean and take in the amazing sunsets. Warm water showers, comfy beds, a well stocked kitchen and THE POOL. We spent many a night cooling off in the oasis just steps from our bed.
The property manager and his wife took incredible care to make sure we had everything we needed. He booked us boats trips, went grocery shopping for us and kept up the property immaculately. She cooked us breakfast and few dinners and made sure the inside of the house was clean and comfortable for us. Their care added a whole dimension to the trip that we had not expected and relieved us from having to do any sort of planning or fussing about food.
As avid surfers this trip was about waves. We drove the 20 mins to La Saladita often but also took in other breaks in the area. A boat trip past the Ranch took us to uncharted territory. Our captain, another friend of the owners, was a great host. Along with his young helper caught us a huge Mahi Mahi for dinner.
Alma de Mar has it all: gorgeous accommodations, lovely people to support you during your stay and a ton of activities and amenities to fill your days. We will be back for sure!
First of all, a disclosure: the owners of Alma de Mar are friends. So I'd heard about how wonderful Alma De Mar and Truncones are for a couple of years. Because of that, my expectations were pretty high. And yet we were still BLOWN AWAY upon our arrival.
Truncones is everything to love about Mexico. Quiet, genuine and beautiful with very warm, lovely people. The coastline and beaches are spectacular. As others have noted, you can do as much or as little as you want. We did "little," other than spectacular walks on the beach and surfing, because we had such a hard time tearing ourselves away from Alma De Mar.
As others have noted, the photos on this sight DO NOT DO JUSTICE to how beautiful and special Alma De Mar is. The property is pristine, in a wonderful location in a cove at the end of the beach. The attentive property managers, Roberto and Ellie, keep the place spotless and will help you with whatever you need. We encourage you to have Ellie cook her amazing chille rellenos for you. YUM!
The house is modest with gorgeous craftsmanship throughout. Everything you need. And did I mention the views?! Imagine sipping an icy cold cerveza on a warm evening on your upstairs, open air deck and watching whales breaching during an incredible sunset. Because that's exactly what you'll get at Alma De Mar. Imagine waking up and hearing the sound of the waves and opening your bedroom doors to a view of the sunny pool and the surf break 50 yards away from your bed. Because that's what you'll get at Alma De Mar! Imagine reading in a hammock by the sparkling, immaculate pool (and I should add that the pool has a deep end of 8+ feet, which keeps it cool and refreshing on hot days), jumping in to cool off and then sitting in the adirondeck chairs on the deck to dry off -- because that's also what you get at Alma De Mar! We could go on and on.
We were loathe to leave at the end of our week, and can't wait to go back!!!
The first thing you have to do upon entering Casa De Mar is get used to the fact that most rooms do not have four "real" walls - that is, sometimes a wall is more like a tall fence with tropical plants growing both outside AND inside. Or sometimes the walls aren't even necessary because they'd impede the spectacular ocean and sky views. You get used to watching the pelicans hovering above the water looking for breakfast. (This is the view from the master bedroom - you watch the birds instead of the Today Show)
Casa De Mar is a small, delightful house with everything you need. That includes two marvelous people, Roberto and Elle who take care of all the details. And so it becomes your job to relax and enjoy the beach, the surf, the pool...
Troncones is a pretty small town with an incredibly expansive array of cool places to eat and drink and be entertained. There are local restaurants with dirt floors, unbelievably gregarious owners and specials such as chicken mole that make you want to lick the plate. And then there is sophisticated fine dining in some of the small hotels where the loveliness of the food and surroundings compete for your attention.
What my husband and I loved was the "off the beaten path" aspect of Troncones. It's not teaming with tourists. It's laid back, but lacks nothing. Getting there is easy. You fly into Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and you can rent a car just across the airport parking lot at Europcar. It's a good idea to set that up before your arrival. Then you can travel back and forth to Zihua for groceries. It's only about a half hour drive on a newly paved multi-lane highway.
The road along the beach on which the house is located is another story. It's paved in some places and dirt in others, It can get dusty if you get behind a truck, but that's just part of the charm. And speaking of charm, there are planted medians all along the beach road and you know you've reached Casa De Mar because the median nearest to it has an old wooden boat planted with flowering shrubs.
It's a handy late night landmark.
Casa De Mar has no TV or radio - a true blessing. It does have wi-fi. We brought our laptops and were able to get internet access intermittently. We also brought speakers we could use with our ipod, and that was the extent of our technology. It served us well and provided the perfect background to our raucous Scrabble games on the veranda.
We love this place and highly recommend it. It's a diamond in the rough.Enjoy it now.
Found the Alma De Mar to be a be a perfect little get away for our family! Quiet, private and nestled between two small villages off the beaten path! LOVED IT. We were with a group of friends who rented down the road.......nice to have our own place yet still vacation together! There were plenty of things to do and the owner's provide a very detailed list of excursions, restaurants to eat at, etc. Perfect for anyone who loves to travel and prefers to be away from all the hustle and bustle of a "spring break" location. A feature that I loved that you don't always get at a private location is the maid service and a "concierge" of sorts. The property managers checked in daily and were very helpful! The place was absolutely beautiful!
We are 2 miles north of Trononces near Majahua
