Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 8

Beautiful, fully stocked home overlooking Lake Cuyamaca near the historic gold mining town of Julian. The house features two queen beds and 4 twin beds. A large kitchen and dining area is ideal for cooking and gathering together with direct access to the redwood deck which stretches the front length of the house, great for enjoying the unobstructed views. Both the master bedroom and the loft have views of the lake. A fireplace can be found in the family room, along with an HDTV, DVD player, and surround-sound audio system with iPod dock. While we do have off-the-air HDTV, we do not have cable/dish or internet service. But you hardly need it, because in the basement you will find the game room, where everyone wants to spend their time shooting pool, playing air hockey, foosball, a vintage Super Nintendo gaming system, or many of the table games. Younger kids will love setting up giant Brio train sets or using their imagination as they build fantasy worlds with the buckets of toys available to them.

A washer and dryer are also located in the basement.

The kitchen is fully stocked with all standard utensils and appliances. Linens are also provided for your use.

We have central air and heating, but all times of the year offer something unique. Fall and winter are the most popular for the local San Diegans to visit the mountains due to the fall colors and 'Apple Days' in Julian, and the snow and cold weather that can come with winter. Spring can be beautiful as the hills turn deeply green and flowers are in abundance, and summer offers warm evenings that are easily spent on the deck marveling at all the stars which you just can't see from urban areas.

About Lori Hansen

Hello! We are Lori and Jeremy Hansen. We live about an hour away from this property with our three children who range in age from 9 through 16. When we're not busy taxi'ing our children to their various sporting events, we enjoy visiting the cabin for some peace and quiet and to just 'unplug' if only for a couple of days.

This property has been in Jeremy's family for more than 40 years. It's been witness to several generations of Hansen kids' visits, engagements, honeymoons. It is a very special place to all of us.

We started renting it as a weekend vacation destination in the mid-90s but lost the original structure in the Cedar Fire of 2003 that ravaged Southern California and much of the Cuyamaca hillside.

By 2007, construction of the new and improved cabin was complete. We took some more time to furnish and decorate it just right (we're in a constant state of decorating!) and, once we felt it was ready to share, we resumed renting it. We're excited to expand onto HomeAway and share our property with you!

Why Lori Hansen chose San Diego County

Located above Lake Cuyamaca, the property offers a breath-taking view of the lake and Fletcher Island. The lake is within walking distance (for those who don't mind the uphill walk on the return trip), where you can rent a row boat, motor boat, pedal boat; go fishing; enjoy lunch or dinner at the lake's restaurant; picnic; not to mention take one of the myriad of hiking trails and enjoy nature!

Nearby are the Laguna Mountains where, in late winter, snow is often blanketing the ground and providing you with opportunities to sled and build snowmen. The cabin sits at an elevation of 4,600ft which is often high enough for snow, as well. We have an excellent driveway for sledding, and even have sleds and snow toys available for your use!

Also nearby is the historic gold mining town of Julian where you will find more restaurants, apple pie, shopping, apple pie, local winery tasting rooms, apple pie, gold mine tours, and did I mention Julian's famous apple pies?!

"Home Away from Home!"

  • 5 of 5

Hansen's Hideaway was a wonderful place for us to stay! We arrive in the middle of a wicked and unexpected rainstorm and were immediately cozy and warm. The storm lasted overnight so it was the next day before we could really appreciate the amenities of the house. We made many day trips, Wolf Sanctuary, Borrego Srpings, Cuyamaca State Park hiking, and touring Julian but coming back to this wonderfully comfortable and beautifully appointed home was the highlight of each day. We had originally planned one or two dinners out, but the comfortable kitchen, inviting dining area and excellent views made eating in our choice every night! Cozy beds and very nice bathrooms added to this most wonderful getaway! The Hansen's have thought of everything their guests could want or need. Thank you, Hansen Family for sharing your home with us!

Great getaway with lots of ammenities

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Hansen's Hideaway last year for my 40th birthday with a bunch of my girlfriends. It was a great location, and a beautiful view from the deck! We started the weekend playing air hockey while the rest of the girls arrived, the house was full of laughter! The beds were comfortable & the whole house was very clean & cozy. I might suggest more seating in the living room, given how many beds are there, the isn't enough seating in the living room for all those people... But we squeezed on the couches & on the floor in the evenings to chat. We walked the neighborhood & hiked local trails. The host was extremely helpful & responsive multiple times that weekend. Unfortunately the water was off when we arrived so I called the host to find out if I need to do something to turn on the water. Turns out the city had shut off the water to the neighborhood for a few hours just as we were arriving. But it was back on before most of the girls arrived. Then I had to call her again right before I checked out because I locked myself out of the cabin saying goodbye to my last guest leaving... And of course I was barefoot, in my pajamas, no cell phone, nothing, and I had been super-diligent to close & lock every window & door the night before... i had to walk down the street & pitifully ask to borrow someone's cell phone from a home construction site to find her on the HomeAway app & call her. I'm so so so thankful, she took off work & drove up to let me back in. Then she let me stay past the checkout time so I didn't have to rush. Super friendly & kind.

I'd highly recommend staying at Hansen's Hideaway. I hope to be back someday soon.

Amazing spacious house, full of fun things to do!

  • 5 of 5

This house is located in a perfect spot, with a beautiful view of the lake. It is spacious and full of things to do. The basement had everything under the sun to keep us entertained. Phone service isn't great but that allowed us to enjoy family time. The whole home sound kept us dancing while we played and enjoyed the weekend. Thanks so much to the owners for sharing their hideaway, it was amazing!

Very nice place to stay, family friendly with beautiful views.

  • 5 of 5

Everyone had a great time, nice location for access to Julian, Lake Cuyamaka, or Mt. Laguna. Large cabin windows face the lake with beautiful view of sunrise. Game room had activities for all ages. Kitchen was stocked well with cooking tools and appliances. Whole house speakers was nice addition, just remember to bring an AUX cable to plug into audio receiver. No internet, wi-fi, or cell phone data, which was a bonus but be prepared to not have access to email at cabin. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to families or small groups.

My family and I want to thank you for allowing us to stay at your wonderful vacation home. The view of the lake was absolutely lovely. We saw deer and wild turkeys. All amenities made our stay just that much more comfortable. The game room in the basement was fun for all ages. Thank you
