About Karl

Live in Southern California. Avid skiiers, snowboarders, hikers.

Karl purchased this townhome in 2003

Why Karl chose Gold Country / High Sierra

Chose Mammoth View Villas because of the unit size and proximity to the Village and Canyon Lodge.

What makes this townhome unique

Very large units in duplex layout. Great light and privacy. Location and square footage can't be beat.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We've stayed in other units in this complex, but none of them are close to the quality of this one. The beds seemed brand new, and we really enjoyed the expanded kitchen and master bedroom. A very good value and great location!

Majority of stars are for location

  • 3 of 5

The location is fantastic. And really, to me that is what is most important. The place itself is pretty good. Beds are ok, nothing special but after a day of riding I slept well. Space is tight. Kitchen supplies - I've seen better (no large frying pans which are needed when cooking for 8). The towels were totally ripped and shredded. The wood for the fireplace was improperly stored for the weather so it was soaking wet and unusable. There was a heater in the downstairs bedroom that made noise (fan blades hitting metal) every time it turned on.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and information. I'm disappointed that there were issues that I first became aware of when I read this review. I'd like to address each item individually. I am not sure what "space is tight" refers to - this is a three bedroom unit with 2Q beds, 2D bed and 2T bed, just as in the listing. There are also two sofabeds in the living room. I would acknowledge that the living room by itself would be tight if 8 people tried to fit into it at one time - since the kitchen, dining room and living room are connected, we always use it as one big room. We replenish pots pans and dishes yearly, but we've experienced damage or theft, which is why you might have detected items missing. The towels are supplied by our local rental agent - if you had contacted them, they would have replaced these towels immediately. Due to the large amount of snow over the last month+, the wood does tend to get buried under the snow - however, the pine wood to the left of the deck is under a tarp, and there should have been un-soaked wood. We have been able to light fires, but since I didn't get a call, I can't be sure what the problem was. As for the heater - this is the first time in 5 seasons that anyone has commented on that. It may be recent damage from a prior tenant that we will check out. Again, most of these items probably could have been resolved if I had been contacted during your stay.

Awesome Location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days in this condo with 2 families - a total of 4 adults and 4 kids under age 7. We easily walked to The Village with shopping, restaurants, and the gondola. Short drive to plenty of other activities - walks/hikes, small and free sled hills, and open areas for snow play. The condo was clean and fully stocked with everything we needed for a really comfortable stay. Our favorite parts were the fireplace (adults) and the bunk beds (kids). We are already looking forward to staying in this same unit again for our next trip up to Mammoth.

Great visit

  • 4 of 5

Very nice visit, the place was just as advertised with Wi-Fi too. We stayed for three nights. The shuttle stop is very close by, or you can walk to the gondola. I would stay here again.

Good Location - If picky about beds and upgrades… not for you

  • 3 of 5

If you only care about location, this is a great spot for you and your group. Within walking distance to the Village.

In general, the condo is very dated, but it's a great location and size for a group of 4-6 people. If you're looking for any comforts or luxury, this isn't for you. The fireplace is nice and creates a cozy feeling, but other than that- not much else is aesthetically pleasing.

The beds are VERY uncomfortable. On our final night, we chose to sleep on the floor because the bed in one of the rooms is so uncomfortable; it was tough to get a good nights sleep and we're great sleepers. And the shower heads could benefit from an easy upgrade to make the shower experience more enjoyable. And the linens are worn.

The living room is small and doesn't quite fit comfortably 4 adults.

While the common hot tub and suana is nice, the common room was a little depressing to be in and the ping pong paddles had to be hunted down from the manager's home.

I don't think we'll return and instead try to find a place with a few more upgrades.

Owner's Response: We appreciate all feedback. It's unfortunate that this guest seems to have been looking for more of a "hotel" type experience than what our unit has to offer. We have checked the beds and asked other guests, and have been told that all is good. That being said, we will do a complete re-assessment in the next 30-45 days, and will replace the mattresses if necessary. We believe that our unit and complex offer the best value for size, location and amenities in Mammoth. Certainly there are more luxurious units and complexes, but at a much, much higher cost, and with virtually the same location.

Not as described in Previous Reviews

  • 2 of 5

Pro- Location almost near to everything.

The view from the balcony was amazing.

The clubhouse is exactly opposite to the house

Cons- No internet connection at all.. we needed it for some urgent work and came to know it was disconnected couple of months back. There was no CD/DVD and without internet we were unable to connect to netflix or anything hence stuck with no entertainment.

The beds are very uncomfortable and makes sound when you turn from one side to the other. Hence none of us slept well.

The house did not have vent and hence you have to open windows while cooking even in freezing cold winter.

This is recommended only for short stay , however as we booked it last minute during peak season we did not regret much.

Owner's Response: As an owner with pride in his unit, I was shocked to receive this review. While we have only owned the unit for a single season, we have striven to be accurate and helpful in our representations. There is a blue ray DVD player in the unit - I know because I installed it myself. The wifi was operational in the unit at thanksgiving (the last time that I was at the unit). There is no truth in the statement that the system was down two months prior. Until the "digital 395" project is complete, all of mammoth suffers from limited Internet capacity. I assure any potential renters that we have a dedicated wifi hotspot for the unit. It is unclear what problems exist with the common area - there is a great outdoor jacuzzi, a sauna, and free wifi. As for the beds, this is the first complaint that we've received after renting to approximately 100 guests last season. We'll check out the situation and will make changes if we find that there's really a problem. Finally, I'm very disappointed that this guest didn't call me with his complaints while he was at the property. He and I spoke several times leading up to his stay, particularly so at I could grant certain special requests that he had. We bent over backwards to make him and his group happy - it seems that this simply wasn't possible.
