About Karl

Live in Southern California. Avid skiiers, snowboarders, hikers.

Karl purchased this townhome in 2003

Why Karl chose Mammoth Lakes

Chose Mammoth View Villas because of the unit size and proximity to the Village and Canyon Lodge.

What makes this townhome unique

Very large units in duplex layout. Great light and privacy. Location and square footage can't be beat.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We've stayed in other units in this complex, but none of them are close to the quality of this one. The beds seemed brand new, and we really enjoyed the expanded kitchen and master bedroom. A very good value and great location!

Nice base camp for some spring skiing

  • 4 of 5

This was a great spot for our family, which included my wife and I, two young children and my mother-in-law on this trip. We had stayed in another unit at the Mammoth View Villas last year and were familiar with the location and layout, but this one was definitely nicer and you could tell the owners were making sure the place felt updated and cared for. Highlights for our trip (besides the mountain and skiing with our 6 year old for the first time) centered around the kitchen. The ample counter space and location of appliances made for easy cooking and serving. The entertainment center in the living room with the soundbar was nice as well, and the bunk bed for the kids with a DVD player in their own room was a treat.

Our only problem was that we got over two feet of snow the night before we left. When we woke up, our car was completely covered and the unit was only supplied with a tiny ice scraper and a beat up house broom. Luckily the snowplow arrived around 9am and I was able to borrow a snow shovel from the office. Besides that, the downstairs shower had some water pressure issues and temperature fluctuations so we all took turns in the upstairs one, which was recently remodeled and way nicer anyways.

Overall, for the price and features we were very pleased and would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Hi Michael, We're glad that you enjoyed our unit, and hope that you'll come again soon! Sorry about the lack of shovels - we used to leave them out for guests, but they kept disappearing! Our on-site property manager is tasked with clearing the snow from the front decks of the occupied units, but it can be quite a lot of work when there's as much snowfall as we've been having. Sorry about the shower downstairs - we just replaced the shower head last month. I'll look into the problem right away. In any case, we will be remodeling the downstairs bath to match the upstairs bath during the off-season this summer. Cheers! Karl

Majority of stars are for location

  • 3 of 5

The location is fantastic. And really, to me that is what is most important. The place itself is pretty good. Beds are ok, nothing special but after a day of riding I slept well. Space is tight. Kitchen supplies - I've seen better (no large frying pans which are needed when cooking for 8). The towels were totally ripped and shredded. The wood for the fireplace was improperly stored for the weather so it was soaking wet and unusable. There was a heater in the downstairs bedroom that made noise (fan blades hitting metal) every time it turned on.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and information. I'm disappointed that there were issues that I first became aware of when I read this review. I'd like to address each item individually. I am not sure what "space is tight" refers to - this is a three bedroom unit with 2Q beds, 2D bed and 2T bed, just as in the listing. There are also two sofabeds in the living room. I would acknowledge that the living room by itself would be tight if 8 people tried to fit into it at one time - since the kitchen, dining room and living room are connected, we always use it as one big room. We replenish pots pans and dishes yearly, but we've experienced damage or theft, which is why you might have detected items missing. The towels are supplied by our local rental agent - if you had contacted them, they would have replaced these towels immediately. Due to the large amount of snow over the last month+, the wood does tend to get buried under the snow - however, the pine wood to the left of the deck is under a tarp, and there should have been un-soaked wood. We have been able to light fires, but since I didn't get a call, I can't be sure what the problem was. As for the heater - this is the first time in 5 seasons that anyone has commented on that. It may be recent damage from a prior tenant that we will check out. Again, most of these items probably could have been resolved if I had been contacted during your stay.

Awesome Location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days in this condo with 2 families - a total of 4 adults and 4 kids under age 7. We easily walked to The Village with shopping, restaurants, and the gondola. Short drive to plenty of other activities - walks/hikes, small and free sled hills, and open areas for snow play. The condo was clean and fully stocked with everything we needed for a really comfortable stay. Our favorite parts were the fireplace (adults) and the bunk beds (kids). We are already looking forward to staying in this same unit again for our next trip up to Mammoth.
