This prime Silver Lake 1BR truly offers a private and serene retreat, with all the amenities of a luxury hotel in the heart of the city. The spacious 650 sq ft apartment is in a prime quiet hillside location with expansive views of Silver Lake with Hollywood Sign and Observatory in the background amazing sunsets, your private perch overlooking the city.
The apartment is in a lush garden setting, it's light and airy with lots of windows and a great hillside breeze blowing through. The main living area features an open plan with a large archway connecting the living room and spacious eat-in kitchen.
The comfortable living room with its eclectic furnishings opens onto the front deck and shares it's glorious view. Here you can relax on the sofa and enjoy Direct TV on the new 42' Sony with an HD DVR with HBO/SHO and Starz. There is also a comfortable “Home Office” desk area, where you can log onto the high speed internet. The spacious eat-in kitchen is a fully equipped chef's kitchen. It has state of the art stainless appliances and the long Caesar stone counter tops offer lots of room to get creative. The open arched plan allows you to visit with friends in the living room while cooking, you can also enjoy the view or just watch the news on TV. And of course there's a coffee maker and coffee grinder and fine fresh complimentary coffee beans. A staple of LA life!
The very comfortable bedroom has a brand new queen sized mattress, a large walk-in closet with lots of space, and a beautiful antique Japanese Tansu chest of drawers for your extended wardrobe. The bedroom also has a new 32' Samsung TV also hooked up with an HD DVR. The bedroom opens out onto the lush backyard, with a beautiful Sedona stone patio. Here you will find a gas grill and quaint wrought iron bistro seating for a romantic outdoor dinner, or your morning cup of coffee.
There is a washer and dryer in the basement, which also offers some additional storage space for your extended stay.
The apartment will give you an authentic flavor of life here in this special community. Silver Lake has been a magnet to creative people for decades. Artists, Film makers, Musicians and Architects have been drawn to this almost bucolic setting, lush hillside homes around a lake in the middle of this huge and vital city. The apartment is in the absolute heart of this community, just 2 blocks from the lake with its popular jogging path and the beloved Silver Lake meadows, the core of this creative neighborhood. Mix with the local color, have a picnic on the lawns, enjoy a glass of wine, fly a kite, become a part of this dynamic community.
Wonderful shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, music venues, galleries and all the other attributes of an artistic enclave are abundant and easily accessible from the apartment, many by foot or a just a short drive. Just around the corner you you'll find a few of Silver Lake's trendiest spots, the Cha Cha Lounge, The Red Lion Tavern, Silver Lake Wine, Gingergrass, Silverlake Coffee, The Edendale Grill, Home restaurant... The list just begins.
Silver Lake has been an architect's playground for decades, many famous designers have experimented here, building what have become iconic examples of mid century modern designs. You will find many classic Neutras, Schindlers, Lautners, Ellwood, Ain, Lloyd Wrights, down the block and around the corners. My favorite is an exquisite Lloyd Wright around the corner, it was home to Anais Nin, where she wrote many of her trailblazing diaries. Many young architects are continuing in that tradition of experimental modernism and many new future icons continue to pop up all over the neighborhood.
Although you feel like you're in a hillside lake resort in the Italian countryside, the apartment is right near 4 of the city's main arteries, the 5, 101, 110, and the 2 freeways are minutes away. So the entire city is easily accessible from here. Head west on the 10 to the beaches of Santa Monica and Venice, or you can hop the 2 west to Pasadena and enjoy a day in old town and the gorgeous Huntington Gardens and Museum (Gainsborough's Blue Boy) and the astounding collection at the Norton Simon museum (many Van Goghs, and a Raphael). If you're here for work you can hop the 5 to Universal, Warner Brothers, Disney and Dreamworks, all a short 10 minute drive. Or take surface streets to the Paramount lot, a 10 minute drive. Downtown is even closer. Enjoy the LA Philharmonic at the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall, an opera at the Dorothy Chandler, a play or musical at the Mark Taper or a concert at the Staples Center or Nokia Theatre at LA live. Hit MOMA, or LACMA. It's all nearby, Silver Lake really is the perfect central location to visit all of LA. And my place offers serene and functional comfort, a perfect home base for your visit.
** 1/15/16: Please Note, the L.A. Department of Water and Power has partially drained the lake to do some repair work on its foundation as it transforms from reservoir to natural lake, it’s not exactly clear how long this will take. But don't worry, the view is still expansive and beautiful, and there is still the remnant of a rather large puddle that continues to reflect the lights at night to magical effect. I will update this message as the time frame of this event clarifies. I just thought you should know.
Aloha form Tunnels beach, Kauai! (My other home). I have been a long term resident of Silver lake, over 20 years now. I'm originally from NY and spent my early adult life as a pioneer of the East Village in NYC going to NYU, then working as a set designer. I came out here and began to work with architects doing specialty design for many high end casinos and hotels in Las Vegas and around the world. I'm just another Silver Lake artist/hippy/eccentric doing my art and enjoying my gifted life.
Jeffrey Schneider purchased this apartment in 1993
I came to Silver Lake in the early 90's to visit a friend who had just moved out here. I fell in love with the life here and the community and I knew immediately that this was the next step in my life's journey.
When I gaze over the lake at the hills I feel like I'm in a resort in a European hill town. And yet this is probably the most vital metropolis in the US (after NY). To enjoy such serenity in the middle of such a large city is really special.
My friend and I enjoyed our recent getaway weekend in LA and one of the best parts of our trip was this rental! The information provided before hand made finding the place and checking in a breeze....we showed up, entered the key code provided, and voila....our home away from home!!!!
The apartment and furnishings were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well appointed and all other necessities such as iron, ironing board, hangers, blow dryer, hand soap, dish soap, shampoo/conditioner etc were provided.
The apartment was conveniently located to everywhere we ventured out in LA and street parking was easy.
Highly recommend this rental and will stay again in the future!!
Pros- location, air cond in living room, nice kitchen, good pressure in shower, comfortable bed.
Cons- stairs leading to apartment dangerous, no a/c in bedroom, no curtain in shower, broken drawers, found 3 roaches in kitchen, ants in bathroom, laundry room a mess.
Summary- this could be a beautiful and comfortable place with some updating and TLC.
This my first time using VBRO and I must say I was a little skeptical about the whole process but I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was and loved staying here. The owner, Jeffrey, was kind and very responsive to our needs/inquiries. The place was well maintained and clean with many amenities including wifi, street parking, coffee maker, grill... I could go on. We spent most of our mornings on the deck drinking our coffee while taking in the beautiful scenery. I really loved this location! There are a few coffee shops, a whole foods and cvs within walking distance. We also enjoyed a walk around silver lake. The neighborhood is truly nice, quiet and peaceful. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a wonderfully relaxing stay. Needless to say we would definitely stay here again. Thanks again, Jeffrey!
This vacation home was definitely a home away from home. I loved it here and Jeff is so nice and kind. He's a big help. Thee view is amazing in thee front you can see thee Hollywood sign! It's close to thee wholes food grocery store which is amazing and not to far from the beach and Hollywood. Perfect neighborhood and perfect setup inside thee vacation home. I really enjoyed my stay at this home away from home. Can't wait to do business with Jeff again!
My friend and I (both professional writers) stayed at Jeff's place for 6 weeks and had an amazing time. The house is very spacious, nicely decorated and fully equipped (my friend and I love to homecook), and its stunning porch overlooks the hills and the Hollywood Sign. There's even a second terrace at the back of the house, which is very peaceful and surrounded by palm trees. The neighborhood is lovely. There are lots of nice coffeeplaces to work at (Silver Lake Coffee) and Blair's is such a wonderful restaurant. We couldn't stop ourselves from groing there multiple times a week ... I lived in Los Angeles from 2011-2013 and had always lived on the Westside. It was great to have the ocean so close, but the Westside vibe is just a little too crazy for me. The Eastside, on the other hand, is much calmer, and feels like home (Europe). I'll for sure stay there again (hopefully, at Jeff's place :)) if I return next year. Thanks so much for everything, Jeff. Bests, Manon
We enjoyed the accommodations very much! The studio size apartment was perfect for us and we especially liked the outdoor deck - very quiet and peaceful. Thanks for sharing your place!
