My husband and I are both native Texans and reside in N central Texas 50 miles south of the DFW area in a small town. We have 3 grown married children and 1 in Jr High. Twin granddaughters that are the icing on the cake!
We love to travel and use VRBO and Home Away when we are not in our RV. Our family loves the mountains and all the activities and this is why we sought out mountain cabin.
Julie grier purchased this cabin in 2008
We have been vacationing in the southern Colorado area for 30 years, and skiing at Wolf creek for 24 years. We bought this house for our family to use and others as well because we rented homes prior to this for years and feel we know what vacationers like and want.
We fell in love with this house because it sets on the outskirts of town and feels like its in the mountain area. I decorated it with all new furniture and decorations, and new washer and dryer, I bought locally around southern Colorado from Trinidad through Alamosa and Pagosa Springs. You never have to worry about access to the cabin because it is cleared daily by the county. I feel its unique because you have the skiiing, snow mobiling, ice skating, tubing and sledding and much more in the winter and in the spring, summer and fall have great access to the rivers, streams, parks, riding and walking trails, shopping in South Fork and near by towns.
We had a good time. Enjoyed the time together and overall experience of Colorado. It was relaxing and very peaceful.
We had great time skiing at Wolf Creek. 36" of fresh powder. The cabin worked out great with the bunk room for the teens. Had fun building the fires and playing games at night. A low key and fun get-a-way. Thank you Julie:)
This house worked great for our small group. At first I was afraid no wifi would be an issue with the kids but we had good att data coverage and I had happy kids. The snow was perfect. We had an overall great ski trip.
The cabin is nice enough, low altitude (a bit above 8000 ft). However, if you need Internet access check with the owner if it was installed and working properly. When we put the criteria on VRBO the house was selected as having internet access but it did not which was a major issue in our case. There are very few alternatives to have Internet access in South Fork (inside the Main Library during opening hours for example).
The other thing: you need to take the trash out by yourself to the local grocery store and pay per bag. So get big bags and prepare for the daily trip.
Otherwise it is pleasant inside, bring your own entertainment in case it rains (it did a lot during our stay and there are not many options for indoor activities).
This is a great place to stay. The owners were great to work with and the price was good as well. It was a last minute book for us so it was great for them to let us book and be available to answer any questions we had. I would recommend it for anyone.
This was our fourth stay in South Fork, all at the same cabin. Julie and Mike are very easy to work with and glad we found this place. Skiing is great at Wolf Creek and we'll certainly be back next season for more. Thanks for having us!
WE HAVE ALWAYS STAYED DURING CHRISTMAS BREAK AND WOULD PURCHASE A FORESTRY PERMIT THERE IN TOWN AND GO CUT DOWN OUR OWN CHRISTMAS TREE AND DECORATE IT WITH HOMEMADE DECORATIONS. WE LEAVE A TREE STAND AND 2 STRANDS OF LIGHTS FOR ANYONE TO USE. DOWNTOWN MAKES AN ICE SKATING RINK FOR ANYONE TO RENT SKATES AND GO ICE SKATING. WE HAVE GONE ICE FISHING DURING THE WINTER ON ONE OF THE FROZEN LAKES.
