Jaci or Mike purchased this house in 2002
Mike and Jaci fell in love with the Moose River area, then decided to put down roots. Mike hand built the chalet from the ground up and wanted to extend true Alaskan hospitality by turning it into a Vacation Rental, since we moved into the new house next door. The beauty of the Moose River with all the great birding and wildlife is spectacular year round.
Front row view of the river approximately 50 feet from living room windows, yet secluded and private. Gazebo with round table seats 4-6 people. Largest outdoor Hot Tub manufactured by Sundance Spa on a wood deck with wonderful private views of the river. Additional covered sun deck out back with a chest freezer and lounging area. Just outside from the kitchen is a large stainless steel fish cleaning table and handmade cutting board. Double hammock under the shade tree. Outside BBQ stocked with fresh cut wood and charcoal.

Quiet watched moose & twins every night at 630. So quite, love it - Thanks for all the supplies!
Been here 3 days, seen 2 people and 7 moose!
Wonderful time hope to come back!
Such a great place. Exceeded expectations. The cabin had more in the kitchen then expected. There's a lot of near by trails to explore. Can't wait to go back!
Was a great cabin, great location and the owners were very nice. They were there for you when you had a question, but gave you your privacy. The cabin had everything you need and was very comfortable. Look forward to staying there again!
This place is absolutely fabulous!! Incredibly clean, very well stocked and quite comfortable. Nice and quiet place right on the river. Love that the owners Mike and Jaci are dog people and open to guests with dogs. Our dog was right at home wandering around. It was enjoyable to have the owners right there on the property going about their daily chores, and their dogs out and about as well. We will stay here again.
We stayed 4 nights at this rustic, spacious, well-stocked cabin on the Moose River. We loved the quiet location, yet still convenient to the owner's house nearby. The cabin has a rustic unfinished wood interior with decor similar to a hunting/fishing lodge with caribou and moose antlers. There is loads of storage space! And a state of the art super large washer and dryer are provided. I could almost fit two normal loads of wash in that one washing machine! The kitchen is so well stocked, even with lots of rolls of paper towels, and both regular and decaf coffee. We prepared all our breakfasts, packed all our lunches each day, and made all our dinners at the cabin. A huge Fred Myers grocery/super store is 13 miles away. I must say there is a slightly odd smell (due to the well water) to the water in the bathroom sink, shower, and kitchen sink. But there is a special faucet in the kitchen with good smelling filtered water. The bathroom is really spacious with a full tub/shower, loads of clean towels, and toiletries. We never did use the hot tub, so cannot tell about our experience with that. Every day we would leave for a different outing: Day One we hiked Russian River Falls Trail to see the spawning salmon and then visited Kenai (where we saw 3 caribou along the Bridge Access Road) and Soldotna (really enjoyed seeing the world record size King salmon in the Soldotna Visitor's Center). Day Two we spent all day driving to Homer, stopping at sights along the way. And Day Three we drove the Skilak Lake Road, hiked the Hideout Trail with its spectacular views of the Kenai River, Skilak Lake, and the surrounding mountains, and then hiked the Lower (East) Kenai River Trail to see the Kenai River Canyon. And every night, back at our cabin, we had a great night's sleep with the windows wide open. Loved our stay on the Moose River!
I have always wanted to go to Alaska, and this past month it came true. Alaska is everything wonderful they say times 2. I have traveled extensively in my life, abroad, and the lower 49 but I honestly can say Alaska surpassed them all with it's beauty. The cabin was an added bonus. It was "tight" and well maintained with everything we needed for our stay. Mike and his wife were the perfect host and hostess, as they were there to answer questions but left us to our own schedule. We traveled all over the Peninsula, Homer, Seward, Girdwood and all were within 2 hours of the cabin. We woke to a cow moose in the river in front of the cabin, what a treat. We took a bear flightseeing plane over the inlet and saw many bears. I can't say enough about the hospitality of Mike and his wife, I just hope we can come back up soon to do a repeat.
Our stay at your cabin was one of the highlights of our month long vacation in Alaska. The cabin is so well stocked. We had absolutely everything we needed. We LOVED having robes to put on when stepping into the cold air after the hot tub. Moby welcomed us every morning and our dog couldn't wait to play with him. We made tacos, rented DVDs at the gas station down the road, did our laundry and enjoyed being lazy after rushing around for weeks. We enjoyed the videos on dog mushing and small planes in Alaska. One in our party is a fly fishing guide in Bristol Bay and travels by Beaver planes all summer -- we're quite fascinated by planes and we also enjoyed watching Mike take off and land on the river out front. We own a cleaning service and have to note that your cabin is by far the cleanest we've stayed in. I don't know if you clean it yourselves or use a service, but it is immaculate. We felt so at home! Thank you! We will definitely be back!
