Excellent Property, Great Service, Wonderful Location, Responsive Owner

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect VRBO for my trip.

- Mike, the owner, was very responsive to my emails and questions

- The property itself is spacious, clean, modern, and has a perfect location for those looking for a beach getaway as it is on the water and close to a dock and pool

- The property is wonderful and the staff will bend over backwards to make sure you are having a great time

- I'm a very picky about deciding on a place to stay and did extensive research on this site and the hotels in the area and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience

One small issue - the resort is expanding so there is nearby construction. If you are an early riser, it won't impact you but once the construction is complete it won't be an issue any longer.

Owner's Response: So great to hear that you had a wonderful time! The nearby construction will be complete and the new building occupied by October 2016. The new plaza and expanded pool area is going to be spectacular!

Beautiful Condo; Great Resort

  • 5 of 5

Pros: the condo is extremely comfortable and right on the beach. Sitting on the front porch overlooking the water sipping coffee or cocktails was a great treat. The internet was amazingly fast (i was able to stream videos at night). Overall the condo is modern, comfortably decorated, AC worked excellently, and daily maid service was a great bonus. I stayed at the resort by myself and felt extremely safe (one note: the front door does not have a peep hole). As for the resort itself I only have wonderful things to say. The staff were very helpful, professional, and friendly. I booked all my outings for snorkel through the concierge and it was an absolute breeze. I was also able to order fresh water through the front desk which was a nice bonus to not have to worry about getting it from town. The pools are all very nice with plenty of space to stretch out and order a mai tai. Prices are typical resort prices for drinks and food at the resort but there are some other restaurants up and down the beach from there with various price points. Overall I had a wonderful time at Grand Caribe and would stay in Mike's condo again in a heart beat.

Cons: when I was there in August 2015 there was a lot of construction going on next door. As an early riser by nature it didn't bother me but if you're looking to sleep in I would check to see if it is still on going. That sea grass thing is no joke in terms of odor. I realize that's not the resorts fault and maybe shouldn't be a 'con' but the smell is strong and because the condo is on the beach can slightly infiltrate into the apartment. In conjunction to that because the resort is tackling this issue with ongoing gusto there are guys out every morning raking the weed up and putting it into wheel barrows and since I was alone I was uncomfortable sitting on the porch while they were out there which usually ran from 7 am to noon. Also, there is a breezeway next to the condo that is a common walkway so you will see a lot of people walk through and the day workers who clean up the seaweed camp out there while they take breaks and drink water.

Quiet, relaxing get away

  • 5 of 5

I could spend a long time writing about how wonderful our experience was, but I'll keep it short. The condo is beautiful. As other have said the pictures do it justice. We had coffee on the patio every morning, and cocktails every evening. Listening to the waves lap against the shore, the cool breeze, the gorgeous views. Just what the doctor ordered. My wife and I celebrated our 20 year anniversary and we picked the perfect place. They decorated the condo prior to our arrival so when we walked in the word "anniversary" was spelled out on the bed in flower petals. Our stay started off on the right foot and kept on going.

The resort and staff were wonderful. Very helpful, very attentive and always at your beck and call. I had some problems with the Wi-Fi that were addressed within the hour. We ended up ordering food (restaurants are reasonable, groceries are not) so we could have some snacks in between meals. We would eat breakfast out most days (walking distance to a couple very good breakfast spots), would have a snack for lunch then eat an early dinner. Oh, and buy your liquor at the duty free shop at the airport. About 60% cheaper than on the island. My only real complaint about the resort is that there really isn't anything going on at night, and once the sun goes down it is DARK. If nightlife and crazy partying is your thing be prepared to go downtown. The new Rain restaurant on site is beautiful and the food is great. We ate there a few times and they have a rooftop lounge that is great for an after dinner drink.

The beach is weedy but they clear it every day. No biggie. We went during the low season so there were plenty of chairs to be had either at the pool or on the beach. It's refreshing not to have to get up at 5am to reserve a place to sit.

We did not rent a golf cart (the drivers in town are a bit more aggressive than I care to be, especially the cabs) so we either walked on the beach or took the water taxi, which I found to be very convenient. You can literally walk for miles right on the beach.

All in all it was a great trip. The locals are incredible. They speak English, take American currency and are some of the most polite people I have ever met. If you haven't been to Ambergris Caye you should go. If you go, stay at Mikes Condo. We'll be back!

Absolutely awesome

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I decided to travel to Belize for our 25th anniversary. This was our first trip to Belize and we can't wait to go back. We were promptly picked up at the airport and upon arrival, we were so delighted to see how beautiful it was. The condo was perfect for the two of us and was equipped with everything we needed. We loved sitting on the porch with the fabulous view of the ocean. The service at the Grand Caribe was outstanding. The maids service was certainly a huge bonus. They even did our laundry for us. Yes, the condo is equipped with a washer and dryer so you don't have to pack as much. Aside from falling in love with Belize, we fell in love with the Belizean people. The staff were all so helpful and were so nice.

The food and drinks at the Grand Caribe is just mediocre and pricey but the condo is close to many good eateries within walking distance or by golf cart. When we arrived the roads were horrendous but by the time we left, they had made huge progress and by the time we return, I trust that the 2-mile trip downtown will be breeze. A golf cart is a must. We visited the ATM Cave which the resort arranged for us. Again everything went perfectly! To our surprise, the guided tour prices at the resort were comparable or even cheaper than those found downtown. The only disappointment we had was that the beach was not as inviting as we had hoped. There were lots of weeds but all we had to do is walk on the dock to jump in the ocean. Aside from the main pool, there is a pool outside the condo which we used and served as our private pool. The Wi-Fi in the condo also worked very well. We can't wait to go back!
