Beautiful, fully restored antique cape with private beach on Millen Pond in Washington, New Hampshire. This historic town is home to many lakes and is the first town named after George Washington. The private beach is accessible from our private road on 12 wooded acres. Ideal for fishing, hiking, canoeing and country living. Property is located near the original founding church of the Seventh Day Adventists and is near many beautiful lakes and ponds including Pillsbury State Forest and Mt Sunapee State forest. Natural beauty abounds including an abundance of wildlife, deer, bear, moose, and wonderful hiking trails. The house is located on the Appalachian Mountain Trail and is 18 miles from Lake and Mt Sunapee Ski area and is an hour and a half drive to Killington ski area.
This property was available on short notice (just a couple weeks) before labor day.
Interpersonal: Communication between the owner/property manager was great, speedy and informative. We had trouble finding it at first and received a quick call back to help locate the rental.
Beach: On google Earth there looks like a long road to the waterfront. It's very walkable with small children (ages 10-13). You can easily drive to the beach as well. It's like a very long, long driveway. Kind of fun and adds to the seclusion. Fantastic for dogs. I wished I had the kids bikes but the road can be a bit steep so perhaps it was for the best. The waterfront is spacious. Plenty of chairs. A canoe seating 3 was provided which was fantastic. Also, the kids couldn't get enough of the paddle boat that seats 4. Ages 10 to 13 were totally fine to take it out on their own. The bottom of the pond/lake is sandy. It was chilly so we didn't get much swimming time. Kids preferred to use water toys. I would add that although the water is clean it is quick mucky and rocky. I don't mean pebbly either. Be prepared to not touch the bottom. Areas of the pond are very shallow (knee deep) in the middle of the pond. Not a big deal for water toys. If you are looking for a swimming lake and are used to seeing the bottom of the pond this might not be the best choice for you. Great fire pit. Sun and shade.
House: It's historic and modern all at the same time. When you first walk in it's like stepping back in time. Handcrafted everything. So be prepared for a rustic look and feel. We slept 8 comfortably. There are 3 queen beds and then a queen mattress that can be put on the floor in one of the upstairs rooms. Beds were really comfortable. Plenty of blankets and sheets and towels. Wifi is very slow and spotty but if you are vacationing then you should be concentrated on vacationing anyway so I see it as a plus. Kitchen well stocked with everything you need, large fridge and dishwasher. Note that showering and washing your hands could cause a problem. It was a little unexpected but wasn't a big deal once we figured it out. Really only one water user at a time.
Surrounding Area: there is a general store where you can get a quick bite to eat. The store selection is similar to what you find at a large gas station mart. Plan ahead for short trips. Going to the store is a bit of a pain. Ate in Hillsboro at pizza place that was very good.
It's a very nice place, plenty of space for a large family! Everything you need for your accommodations. Small town charm. The loved seeing the Loons in the pond. We enjoyed trips out to the other side of the pond in the canoe and the fishing was great. Scott and I would recommend this place to anyone!!
The home is warm and welcoming, a perfect combination of modern and historic. The short stroll through the woods (or quick drive) brings us to the pristine and private lakefront with comfy chairs to enjoy the afternoon and a fire pit to enjoy the evening. Little touches, like extra towels, are greatly appreciated. The kitchen is fully equipped. The wifi is fast. And this is a perfect place to stargaze! The owners are friendly and quick to respond. We definitely plan to return.
It was a beautiful upgraded New England home. The weather was alright, but we just missed the heat wave. The lake was about a 5 minute walk from the house. The house in a dead zone for some cell phones, except the Apple phone. Way out in the country, travel was kinda slow because of the hills and curves. We enjoyed ourselves very much so. I stayed here recently with a group of friends, and we were all shocked by how spacious and nice our accommodations were here. On top of that, it was just a short walk to an absolutely stunning lake. This made for the perfect weekend trip, and I would 100% recommend it to anyone!!
the home was beautiful. was disappointed that i was a long walk to the beach. Also thought the price per night it should of been on the water. We enjoyed the stay even though it was freezing out..Thank you for letting us enjoy your home
