Berkshires Chalet Rental Photos and Description

Chalet, 1 Bedroom + Den with Bed, 2 Full Baths, (Sleeps 4)

The tree house has a queen-sized bed in a private bedroom with full bath and a double bed in the living room, as well as a sofabed in the living room. With its geometric, octagonal shape, this luxury rental has plenty of nooks and crannies in which to snuggle up with a new vacation read. There is an additional full bathroom off the living room, making mornings and nights a breeze for when this upscale accommodation is at capacity.

A modern wood-burning fireplace is the centerpiece of the living room, surrounded by large windows that offer vacationers stunning views of the woodlands around the tree house. The dining area off of the kitchen includes similar and equally as impressive views of the surrounding area, as grand windows are a prime feature in this luxury tree house.

A fully stocked kitchen allows guests to cook all their own meals, should they so choose, and includes a fridge, a dishwasher, and utensils. Guests will also enjoy Wi-Fi throughout the accommodation, as well as an outdoor barbecue on the patio. Linens are provided.

Guests will find this glamping site in western Massachusetts in the Berkshire Mountains, only an eighth of a mile away from Otis Ridge, a popular, family-friendly ski area. About The Owner

I'm a creative who work/live in Manhattan. We travel constantly, but love our getaways in the country when we can.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 2012

Why The Owner chose Berkshires

The Berkshires are an idyllic part of America. Despite being extremely 'country', this area boasts some incredible cultural experiences. Tanglewood , Jacob's Pillow, Mass Moca, and Kripalu are all top notch experiences. The artisanal food available is up to par with any big city farmers market, and nearby Great Barrington is a wonderful little city full of great shops and an independent movie theater.

What makes this chalet unique

Our house is a few hundred yards from Otis ridge ski mountain, a tiny little resort just bought and updated by Butternut. It's perfect for firsttime skiiers and children. We are also within 30 miles from the larger Butternut, Blanford, and Bosquet mountains. There is an Appalachian trailhead 8 miles from our house and wonderful hiking/swimming all nearby.

Those in Glass Houses....enjoy the view.

  • 5 of 5

I spent a completely relaxing early spring weekend at this "just right" home. Large windows encircle all but the bathrooms. This makes for lovely views and an open feeling that is balanced by modern, earthy decor. It snowed while I was there so I got to experience the home in sun and snow....both lovely.

The bed and linens are simple and comfortable, as are the bathrooms. The kitchen has beautiful cabinets, wooden counter, and natural stone backsplash, it was plenty well-equipped for me, but do note that there is no microwave. The house has a good fireplace and various cozy reading spots. The table for two makes for a good desk or dining spot. I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at The Farmington, a good, simple, Italian dinner at Frateli's, and got other supplies from Katie's general store. If you need rest, romance, or to get work done, this home can be that place. KT was helpful throughout the reservation and rental.

*If you have mobility issues or a larger person, the spiral staircase could pose a problem....it's a tight winding staircase from the entryway to the main floor.

Magical secluded place in the woods

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we rented this house.

We enjoyed this atypical modern architecture, the amount of glazing that makes you feel you are almost outside, the cozy atmosphere with some vintage pieces of furniture and among of everything the fireplace.

Perfect place for a retreat or a quiet romantic weekend.

The kitchen has everything you need to cook, with a small dish washer; a microwave oven would be a plus maybe?

Document all problems as soon as you arrive!

  • 2 of 5

The location is as spectacular as other reviewers say it is, and we enjoyed a restful holiday in this gorgeous secluded chalet. We noticed several quirks, such as a finicky lamp switch, non-existent AC, and non-functional window blinds, but were so delighted by the natural beauty of the place we didn't pay much attention to them. This was a mistake. When we returned from our vacation, we received an email from the owner blaming us for several problems that we noticed when we arrived. Our entire damage deposit was withheld because of problems that should have been fixed before we arrived. Moral of the story: Be sure to carefully document all imperfections as soon as you arrive and notify the owner of them in writing. Otherwise your sweet vacation memories may be soured, as ours were.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, this guest broke a light switch that I had to pay an electrician to come fix which cost their deposit. I sent photo documentation. My cleaner and caretaker thoroughly checks the apartment between visits, and the blinds and light have since been repaired. Also, there has never been AC listed in the amenities, but there is an amazing cross breeze and ceiling fans for air circulation. I understand accidents happen, but it's sad that this guest does not want take responsibility for their mistakes when I've opened my home to them.

We had a great time. The house was neat/clean and as lovely as the pictures on the website. The owner was easy to worth with and, provided some great suggestions for shopping, and enjoying the area. The goat cheese from the area is AMAZING. Thank you!

PERFECT Honeymoon getaway!

  • 5 of 5

First, we couldn't have timed our wedding and honeymoon better with regards to the peak color changing season! Second, this like COMPLETELY SECLUDED getaway was so amazing to just relax for a week after months of planning, stress and an amazing wedding. I don't know how people take international trips or travel for their honeymoons, but i digress. This little place was perfect for a calm decompression and the little towns around it offer tons of quaint little things to do. We ate like royalty at, hidden little restaurants, found little wilderness ponds to hike around went on a ghost tour at The Mount in Lenox, saw David Sedaris at the Mahaiwe Theater in Great Barrington, saw a play at the Berkshire Theater Group and had dinner and listened to live music at the Dream Away Lodge. Other nights, we nestled up by the fire and played yahtzee, got our butt's kicked by 90's trivial pursuit (we both were teens in the 90's!!!) and made DELICIOUS bacon from the Chicken Farm store a few miles away. I'd also walk around the Otis cemetery. Some really old headstones and even Revolutionary War vets....

We were really impressed with the incredibly efficient use of space. That little fireplace can kick out some heat, for sure, and waking up to rain and looking out from the bed at the trees and ferns made for a perfect way to wake up. The cute little garden house added a nice feel to the place and we took a number of photos on the property with my wife in her wedding dress that were possibly better than the ones taken by our wedding photographer!!!

KT was super helpful and responsive and we are looking forward to spending our first anniversary there. The only thing I would say was missing was an ironing board and iron. Enjoy your stay. I know we did!

Beauty in every direction

  • 5 of 5

The centerpiece of this magnificent home is the wood burning fireplace which we enjoyed immensely while watching 8" of snow come down all around us. However, there are lots of other nice amenities in the compact space. We enjoyed the selection of board games, the record player, and perusing some of her books. Her attention to detail and utilization of space is really a model of how to live well. This secluded natural getaway was precisely what my wife and I were in search of on our anniversary weekend. We made trips to the Mass MoCA and the Norman Rockwell museums. We took in dinner from Baba Louie's in Great Barrington and did some grocery shopping at Guido's. Otis is really a charming area that is under 3 hours from NYC. KT was really great about everything as we arranged our stay. My only advice to other guests is bring a 4WD car if you have access. We rented an Altima to save a little and although it worked out fine we struggled a bit with the snow coated hilly roads. Luckily within 24 hours the plows had done a really good job. All in all a fantastic stay and we would certainly go back to recharge from city life.
