Northern Michigan Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

This cottage is the perfect getaway if you are looking for a private and secluded vacation spot! We are located at the end of the private Cherry Home Shores community right up against the forest with lots to explore! We have a large front deck with gorgeous views of Grand Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. We provide 3 kayaks for plenty of family fun. There are 4 private beaches in the community for tenant use. There are tennis courts, sand volleyball, picnic areas, and a playground. There are also private hiking trails for wildlife viewing and bird watching. The neighborhood is perfect for biking, jogging or walking.

There are many attractions and activities in the Northport area. Our favorites include Sleeping Bear Dunes, many wineries to tour and do tastings, historic Fishtown in Leeland with shopping and lakefront restaurants, and marinas with boat rentals and fishing expeditions. There is also a casino and lighthouse museum to enjoy.

About The Owner

I am a retiree from Clarkston, MI. I have 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. We all love summer vacations in our cottage on the lake.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1992

Why The Owner chose Northern Michigan

Cherry Home Shores appealed to me because of the quite and secluded area on the water. We have our own boat and kayaks to enjoy the lake.

Just Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a "Destination Book Club Weekend", and could not have asked for a nicer place to stay! Enjoyed the awesome view, beautiful Fall colors, some wine tasting, and just chilling out while putting together puzzles in the coziness of.this cottage. Would definitely come back again!

Great escape

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a week of biking, hiking (highly recommend Sleeping Bear Dunes), winery touring, but we mostly loved returning at the end of the day to this quiet and beautiful setting. The pictures are authentic, but almost don't do justice to the gorgeous, ever-changing hues of that water. The location is off the beaten path and we found it made better sense to eat out in the day, and cook in at night to avoid driving in dark. I was pleasantly surprised that in mid-September I could get out and swim, which then prompted paddle boarding and kayaking - great extra touches and high quality equipment. My favorite time was spent reading a book beachside - but the entire experience lived up to our expectations. Only downside were the prolific fruit flies which apparently love this time of year - and the fact there are tons of fruit trees and grape vines on the peninsula. We learned how to deal with them in time. Overall, highly recommended. Owner very quick to respond, and was very accommodating to us when we had to rearrange our week of stay.

Well equipped cottage in Northport, MI

My friend and I enjoyed a nice stay at this cottage. It was very comfortable and clean. Owners maintain the property well. Sheets and towels were of good quality and the staples that were provided were a nice touch. The neighborhood was quiet and the property was peaceful.

Quiet, Serene, Special

  • 4 of 5

We loved being here. The owners have opened their vacation HOME to us and made us feel as though we were a treasured guest. It is comfortable, sheets feel luxe, all kitchen and bathroom necessities were provided and the landscaping is clean and thoughtfully done. We had a small problem our first evening. The owner stepped in early the next morning and took care of the issue immediately. I would recommend this for those who appreciate a quiet get-away. A big thank you to the owners for opening their sanctuary to us.

The cottage was everything that you need for an enjoyable escape. Fully equipped and clean. Everything thought out as far as coffee, creamer, Ziploc bags, foil, etc., for the kitchen. Beds were cozy and comfortable and the fireplace in the living room was very nice. The owners were very nice and helpful with any questions we had. It was perfect to navigate to all the surrounding towns which we enjoyed. I would highly recommend this property. It has everything you need for complete relaxation.

Lovely cottage, but you can't use beach or kayaks

  • 4 of 5

As everyone else has previously stated so well, the cottage is lovely and clean. The view is incredible and we had a fire in the fire pit every night. I LOVED being able to take my dog. Although the neighbors house is very close, we only saw them twice and they are very quiet. I guess I'm the only person that really wanted to use the beach out front and the kayaks they offer in their description. The beach is covered in small shells. I tried raking it, but it's just layers upon layers. The water is rocky and filled with algae. We tried swimming the first day, but were swarmed with biting black flies and mosquitoes and we had covered ourselves in bug spray. I finally found the kayaks the third day, chained to the ceiling in the shed. I couldn't physically get them down. If you are going to offer kayaks in your description, have them out and ready to use.

Owner's Response: We are sorry to hear you had a problem with the kayaks. We have always stored them in the shed hanging by chain and s-hook and never had any of our guests mention it was too difficult to get them down. However, we appreciate your suggestion and will store them in a lower more accessible location. In regards to the black flies, mosquitoes, shells and algae something we cannot control. This year has been wetter and cooler than average which has caused the black flies and mosquitoes to be more of a problem. We have had the yard and the cottage sprayed by our Pest Control Service. It has helped but will only get better as the weather changes. The shells are from invasive Zebra Mussels that are also contributing the increase in the formation of algae, a major concern in all the Great Lakes. The higher lake Level in the Great Lakes is washing shells further up along the beaches. The algae on the beach can change from day to day that depending on waves and current. When this occurs we recommend trying one of the beaches in our subdivision. Our family likes South Park Beach a short distance from our cottage that is less rocky and very nice for swimming and sun bathing. The nice thing about our Subdivision are the parks and beaches that provide alternatives when conditions can be unfavorable.
