Recent stay on Staten Island
We had 6 adults (husband/wife, mother/daughter and 2 men) and the rooms were large but the beds didn’t seem to be queen sized. Also, the extra twin mattress available did not fit the frame. Would recommend towel racks for bathrooms and tables for bedrooms. Also, curtains that cover the entire windows. The house was well stocked with towels, dishes, etc - no complaints there! Front yard needed to be done. Overall rating if available would have been 4.5 stars! Would definitely stay here again!
The house is an old historic house, therefore it's a big space! The store right next door is amazing! It's a deli/market with hot food, sandwiches, etc! The people on this street are so friendly and helpful! If you are looking for fancy and upscale, this is not it. If you are looking for a nice, clean, bug free house on a quiet street with lots of space, this is it! The owner has made lots of updates. Staten Island Ferry is a short walk. If you are tired, you can uber for about $6 or catch a bus. Easiest route is take a left down the street, then a right at the end of the road. Follow it all the way to the ferry. A nice walk with views of NYC across the water! They have also built a very nice outlet mall at the Staten Island Ferry terminal. We walked down there while our teenagers rested at the house, just to do a little shopping! Such beautiful views and nice shops! Also a good piece of info, when you get off the ferry in NYC, take the red 1 on the subway to get to times square, central park, etc. Lots of great stops along the way. 14th street stop will get you to 9-11 and ground zero memorial. 42nd is times square, 59th is central park, trump tower, etc. Enjoy your stay!! We loved the house and all the conveniences. Would highly recommend!
Nothing special but very neat place
Let me start with this is just a thorough straightforward review....my 1st impression when we checked in was what did i get into...house looked a little rundown from the outside and all the grass out front was nearly waist-high.... But decided to look past outward appearance and see what was there...and glad I did... House was not run down at all ...was just a cute quaint little original New York home... With a few modern upgrades... Found out my first day there was only the second or third day of sunshine in about a month-and-a-half... And grass got mowed the next day... Owner is very reachable and easy to contact... All rooms were clean, there were plenty of towels of all sizes for my entire week stay.. even soap and shampoo is included if needed... All the beds are newer (and comfortable for me)... Bathrooms have been upgraded with a nice stand up shower upstairs and a very large walk-in shower downstairs... Nice appliances...there's a full size for refrigerator, oven and microwave and large dining room table, plates, glasses etc... My only complaints if you want to call them complaints... The TV in the living room has a very limited cable package (which for the most part if you're there visiting the city for the first time as I was you're not here watching a lot of tv anyway)... But when we got in after a day in the city and wanted to watch say the NBA playoffs they were not available because the stations were not included on this package..(no ESPN, tnt tbs ECT)... Second the neighborhood is what I would refer to as 50/50... In the mornings to make the 10-15 minute walk to the ferry was fine but late at night after a long day in the city did not feel comfortable making that walk through the neighborhood.. but a cheap $6-7 Uber solve this problem for me...all in all a great stay for us... And probably would be for you if you're looking to add a little old style New York to your stay.
Booked this place not really knowing much about Staten Island at all. Kind of worried about catching the ferry everyday into Manhattan and how seven of us turns out it was perfect. Host has done a great job. It fit our crowd perfect exactly what we were looking for. The neighborhood is great. Ferry is close. Staying here has inspired us to explore more of Staten Island. Really cool thank you
As we pulled up in the car we felt disappointed with state of the garden which was a mess ,and the property looked tired and run down, as was the inside, but the main annoyance was it hadn't been cleaned properly ,the floors were filthy ,window ledges were filthy,in fact we think as us being the one of the first bookings it hadn,t been cleaned since the previous year, looking at the reviews it seems to get cleaner,My daughter found old socks left under her bed in fact when I looked there was a build up of dirt and fluff ,as was the same under all the beds,it would not take much to get a long handled broom and clean it properly, lam one of the women of this group and my employment is a housekeeper and I also manage a holiday let as well and I know what is required, when you let out a property you should not have to request it to be cleaned again as I have seen the answer to this problem in previous reviews, the bedding was clean apart from a long hair in it,the bathrooms could of been cleaner, only 2 large size bath towels the rest was the size of handtowels,no where to dry them and had to hang them over bannisters,no wardrobes to hang anything, apart from in one bedroom some shelves which we didn,t use as the level of dirt,My husband found a dry black chunk of toast in the toaster, probably been there since last year, wires all over the place and extension leads,it didn,t feel safe ,basically the lack of cleanliness was the issue, would it take much effect to pull things out ,like the sofa and side tables and get into corners ,no excuse for this ,Please don,t reply saying we could of requested it to be cleaned like I said we should,nt have to,more of a deep clean before you rent this property out before the first bookings might be good idea
Conveniently located - clean - great value - friendly service
It was a great visit
House is located in the St. George Historical District, 100 yards from a waterfront esplanade facing Manhattan and 15-20 minutes walk from the Staten Island Ferry. This is a fast-changing, diverse neighborhood, mostly residential but with walking access to local restaurants and shops.
The Staten Island Ferry remains the greatest FREE ride in the world. Boats leave every half hour most of the day, and travel 25 minutes to Manhattan, past the Statue of Liberty.
