Great place to stay.

If you are looking for a place that is low cost and practical, stay here and save. It is simple, but saves a lot of money. Our party was made up of 7 adults, and there was plenty of room for us all. Everything was as advertised. The owner, Nickolay, was friendly, quick to respond to any questions and easy to work with.

On the same street of the house, there is a laundromat and a Chineses restaurant. Next door is a little grocery store with pretty much everything you need. A mile away is Key Foods, located at 155 Bay Street for a larger selection. For fresh meat, we walked to Jersey Street and bought at a very reasonable price, meat from Vinnie's Meat. The neighbors were friendly, even offering us free potatoes once as we were walking home!

We walked the mile to and from the free ferry (the walk from the house to the ferry is uphill a lot of the way) and spent time touring Manhattan Island. We used "Statue Cruises" to book months in advance (a must to get in) a tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Well worth the price. On days we wanted to get up to Central Park and Times Square, we bought metro tickets which were $2.75 a ride. Other than that, once you leave the ferry and if you are happy to walk, much can be seen without transportation.

There is a taxi service that charges $8 for the one-way ride from the ferry to the house for those who would rather relax and a bus service as well.

For those unaccustomed to the big city, it was nice to get away from the business and retreat to a home where it was quiet. And although the ferry ride is 30 minutes one way and the walk to the house about 20 minutes (for adult legs), it was a great way to unwind and talk about the day. The ferry ride takes you by the Statue of Liberty on one side, and Governor's Island/Brooklyn Bridge on the other. Chat with the workers on the ferry--they offer up great insight into life in NYC and are friendly. A great way to slow down after a fast paced day.

Large home perfect for 4 adults and 3 children.

The location was convenient to ferry. 20 minute walk or 8 dollars to park car in ferry lot per day. Free on sundays. Beds were comfortable and linens were fresh. Plenty of towels and linens. House could use a good cleaning though overall was a great stay.

House is located in the St. George Historical District, 100 yards from a waterfront esplanade facing Manhattan and 15-20 minutes walk from the Staten Island Ferry. This is a fast-changing, diverse neighborhood, mostly residential but with walking access to local restaurants and shops.

The Staten Island Ferry remains the greatest FREE ride in the world. Boats leave every half hour most of the day, and travel 25 minutes to Manhattan, past the Statue of Liberty.
