About Ted Hollman

'Ruby's Retreat' was built in 1993 by my parents, Loren and Ruby Hollman, as a family vacation home. After my father Loren passed away in 2010 and my mother Ruby was no longer able to visit the cabin, the family decided to keep it available for family use, but also open it up for short-term vacation rental. My name is Ted Hollman, I live in Colorado and manage and care for our family cabin. Our guests always comment that our mountain home has a warm and 'homey' feeling to it, that immediately makes you feel welcome.

Ted Hollman purchased this house in 1993

Why Ted Hollman chose Allenspark

In the early 1990s, Loren and Ruby decided to build a mountain home in Colorado, to enjoy in their retirement. As did all of the family, they liked the Allenspark area, which was close to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, yet enough off the beaten path to be relaxing in a natural mountain setting. However, Ruby laid out certain criteria that she wanted for the location: She wanted pretty mountain views; wild mountain flowers and trees, but not too many trees to block the mountain views; level ground to make it easy to walk across; it couldn't be located along a stream that could wash you away in a flood, nor could it be in a steep canyon where a rock could fall on your head! This was no small order for a piece of property in the Colorado Rocky Mountains! My wife Michele and I spent every weekend for six months before finding this ideal one acre spot that met Ruby's criteria. Once you stay at Ruby's Retreat, we think you will agree we found the perfect spot in Colorado!

What makes this house unique

Located in the Pine Valley area outside of Allenspark, Colorado, Ruby's Retreat is surrounded by mountain views in every direction. When building the cabin, again per Ruby's wishes, we put in many windows, so as not to obscure any mountain views. You can enjoy breakfast on the rear deck, relax in the afternoon on the front porch swing, and warm up in the evening in my Grandfather's lazyboy recliner while watching the flames flicker in the Franklin stove in the great room.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great 3 night stay at this wonderful mountain home! The cabin was perfect for our family of 3.The home was clean, spacious, had everything you could need in the kitchen, and so many toys, games, and movies for kids. We were glad that there were plenty of fun things to entertain our 5 year old daughter in the mornings and evenings at the cabin. We spent most of the day at the RMNP and the drive into the main entrance to the park was maybe 20 mins away and a beautiful drive. We also spent some time in the Wild Basin area of the park, which is only a couple of minutes away from the cabin. Be sure to check out this part of the park since it is so close to the cabin and so beautiful. The home was perfect for our needs and a good value for the area. Booking was very easy to do online and because of all the great reviews and information available I felt very comfortable booking the cabin. My damage deposit was also reimbursed to my credit card within a couple of days of our stay. This is a great place to stay and we would love to stay here again on our next visit!

Clean, spacious, and amazing location!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Ruby's Cabin was amazing. The cabin itself is stocked with anything you could need (we managed to make an entire Thanksgiving meal with the dishes and cookware provided!) It is very spacious and I can tell it is well taken care of. The location is great. We walked up Taylor Road about 3/4 a mile and were able to watch an amazing sunset at a clearing. A little farther up the road there is a trail to hike up Taylor Mountain which was a nice hike! It is about a 20 minute drive to Estes Park also. I definitely will be returning for another stay in the future, and highly recommend this cabin! Thank you so much!!

Sweet cabin, felt like staying in someone's home.

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was well stocked in the kitchen as well as movies, etc. for entertainment It's located in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood near RMNP, Estes Park and Lily Lake. I appreciated having the forced air heat as it got quite cold at night in October. The bed linens and towels had much to be desired however. The towels looked like they were very old (thin and very worn) and I wasn't entirely sure they were clean -- they smelled of mildew. The stove top was covered in a layer of grease, likely from the previous users. I would consider staying here again but not without bringing my own towels. This is an easy fix for the owners.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry the cabin was not left acceptable and from your description, it does not meet our standards either. We did not have our regular person clean prior to your arrival. Instead there was a relative that used the cabin prior to you, who promised to clean it and leave it as they found it. Obviously that didn't happen. Again, my apologies and I will ensure that will not happen to future guests. Sincerely, Ted

Wonderful Visit!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had our very first trip to Colorado. The cabin was cozy and we felt right at home. It was perfect for us. We had everything we needed there. It was ideally located close to Estes Park and RMNP but far enough away to get away from the crowds. We loved the little antique shop in Allenspark. Very nice things there. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for peaceful settings and wonderful star filled skies!!

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to RMNP. We took 6 of our 8 kids (3-14 years old). Cabin was perfect. We stayed 5 nights. Plenty of space for everyone. We made breakfast and dinner at cabin and packed picnic lunches for the day while we explored the park. Our 3 and 5 year old enjoyed the toys at the cabin and our older kids enjoyed playing games at night. Cabin is only 20 min drive to Rocky and a very pretty drive. We would love to come back and would stay at the cabin again. Our highlights were hiking to gem lake, hiking to top of Lily Mountain, driving trail ridge road, and horseback riding in Moraine Park. Wish we only had more time in park. This cabin was a very good value in area. It was clean and we enjoyed the no internet or cell service for the week
