Overview

Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 17, 18 with rollaway

Complete with old wooden beams, fireplaces and brilliant sunrise and sunset views. It is a wonderful house for large families, groups of friends or anyone who simply likes lots of space, airy rooms, scrubbed pine floors and country living by the sea. Perfectly located at the end of a quiet private road, you can relax to your hearts content. Watch seagulls wheeling high overhead, inhale the wonderful mixed fragrance of pine needles and salty sea air, listen to bird songs or stroll down to the shore in Hulls Cove to look for sea glass and other treasures that the sea has left behind. Acadia National Park is just down the road. Hike or bike the scenic carriage roads and trails, climb a mountain, go sea kayaking or walk over to secluded Lake Wood for a swim.

May we also suggest taking a moment to look at our 6 bedroom Orchard House just down the lane.

It is property # 3752195 on Homeaway and VRBO

HomeAway 3752195

The Orchard House began as a small photographer's cottage down on the shore in Hulls Cove around the early 1900's. At a later date the cottage was moved up to the orchard. It escaped The Great Fire of Bar Harbor in 1947 but burned to the ground exactly 50 years later in 1997. We rebuilt the house, but a good deal bigger this time because our family was growing. Now the time has come for another change as we welcome guests to enjoy the house and its surroundings and to become a part of its story too.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This group of Alaskan gals (and 2 guys) were constantly commenting on how much they love this house. All the little details were noticed. The towels were plush, the beds comfy, the bathrooms plentiful, the deck sublime, the deer adorable. we had a wondeful time here. Thank you!

Great house for family gatherings

  • 5 of 5

The house was as pictured on the site. It was perfect for our family reunion with 10 adults and 4 children. There was plenty of space for everyone, with a great yard for the kids and a wonderful porch as well. The house was well maintained and clean. Good linens, towels and beds. The owner was very responsive to questions about the area and where to get groceries. The house is at the end of a private road and so very quiet, but also only a 5 minute drive to Acadia National Park. The kitchen and grill make it easy to prepare food for a large family gathering. We loved visiting the park and other scenic areas of Mount Dessert Island. I would definitely recommend this house to friends (and have done so already).

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

When is the last time you spent an entire week with twelve (twelve!!) family members? For me, it was last week. My daughter recently graduated from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine and chose Maine as her post-graduation destination. And this wonderful home played a big part in the success of our vacation. Upon arriving, we found this warm, charming home sparkling clean with fluffy towels in each bathroom, a fully stocked kitchen, and all the necessary amenities. The location is handy with a five minute drive into Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park as well as a quick walk to the beach and grocery store. There was plenty of room for all of us to hang out together - and plenty of room for all of us to spend in separate quarters! We loved this house, we miss is already, and definitely recommend it to all of you out there. GO TO MAINE AND STAY IN THIS HOUSE!!!! Thank you, Trish, you're the best.

The perfect backdrop for family memories

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this house for 5 days, and had our wedding on the grounds. We couldn't have found a more perfect spot. The house was beautiful, as shown, very clean, and comfortably accommodated our entire wedding party (16 people) for 5 days, as well as serving as the perfect setting for our wedding and reception. We were able to cook and clean easily, on the day of the event, the catering company had no issues using the kitchen. The house even has lawn games which kept the guests busy at the reception.

Trish was responsive, and very helpful. First, she was able to show us the house off season when no one was renting it, very understanding of our hunt for a wedding venue. Once we decided we'd go with this one, she also recommended some of our vendors which helped us pull off an event at the house. The house is fully stocked, with everything as described, as well as nicely maintained. Even the patio furniture/grill were in tip top shape.

The house has a lot of charm and a lot of common rooms for 16 people to hang out or spread out (when you don't want to spend every minute together). The eating space is very charming, three tables so plenty of space, lots of light, big fully stocked kitchen with industrial stove and dishwasher. And if you have any questions, Trish was very responsive by email about what the house had (especially helpful for us so that we knew what to rent for the event). Finally, you can't beat the location. Our guests were able to walk to the Visitor Center of the national park, from which they could take the bus around the park (or into town).

I loved staying at this house, and many of our guests from across the country also noted how memorable this stay was. I so look forward to coming back to stay again, and would recommend this to anyone.

We never wanted to leave!!!

We booked the Cider House Farm for our wedding. We not only held the wedding and the reception there, but stayed in the farmhouse for the week following, as did our guests. It was a destination wedding. We live in Tennessee.

It was love at first sight! The grounds were beautifully manicured. There was an amazingly beautiful garden in the back of the driveway and a gorgeous hand-made wooden arch that framed a flower garden right beside it. This is where we chose to have our ceremony.

The kitchen is huge and if I could've put it in my suitcase, I would have taken the large, wonderful gas stove home with me. Not really, but I sure wish I had one like it. There are 3 dining tables and plenty of seating. The refrigerator is large and there are a ton of dishes, cookware, silverware and glassware.

The full bath on the main floor was my favorite spot! I loved the claw foot tub. It was large and very comfortable when filled with hot water and bath salts we bought from the Body Shop in Bar Harbor. The bedrooms are all very large and there is plenty of closet space.

The furniture in the living room was so comfortable! Large leather sofa, love seat and chair. We didn't use the television much, but it was nice to have for our guests.

Breakfast every morning was made even more special by the deer family that loved all the wild flowers that surrounded the property.

Our reception was held on the large deck that surrounds almost half the house and is right off the kitchen. Bar Harbor Lobster Bakes set up on the lawn just off the deck and did an amazing job feeding us all! If you're ever looking for a caterer and want lobster, you won't find any better tasting food or better service!

All in all, this was an amazing trip and we loved every second of it. Most of all, we loved this house and hope to book another stay as soon as we can.

Great stay for 15!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 6 adults and 9 children at the cider house over Memorial weekend 2015. The house had plenty of rooms and bedrooms to fit everyone. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pens, dishes, utensils, diswasher, etc. the batrooms were stocked with plenty of clean towels. There were two living rooms with blankets to cozy up and even board games.

The location was convinient to all Acadia trails. We had a great time and made great memories...would love to come back in the future. Thanks again Trish!!!

Hulls Cove is a quiet and beautiful little cove just 3 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. The sun rises over the water and the Porcupine islands, and each morning the sky and sea delight the eye. Some days the islands are draped in fog and the water looks like silver. Other days the water sparkles like diamonds and countless shades of blue. It is ever changing and always breathtaking. At the Hulls Cove General Store you can pick up coffee, a newspaper and grocery items or board the free Island Explorer shuttle bus. The Chart Room Resturant offers delicious dining right on the water or pop into Peppers for pizza and calzones.

Lake Wood is just up the road. It is part of Acadia and a great place to swim. Bullfrogs like it too!

Notes:
This is a wonderful house for children; with one and a half acres of rolling lawns, lightly wooded for adventures and exploring. Well behaved dogs are welcome but because of the town leash law they are not allowed to roam free. The house is stocked with everything necessary to make your stay carefree. A large deck and patio with a gas and charcoal grill offer plenty of room for outdoor dining.
