Cozy, well equipped, rustic style cottage:

  • 5 of 5

Our ski visit was delightful and the accommodations, for a dozen senior skiers, were nearly perfect with only a few minor exceptions. Since so much was perfect, I will only mentions the few drawbacks: We had to follow a fairly long and a bit complicated list of opening-up directions. We had hoped that all this would have been done in advance of our arrival. On the opening day of the South Korea Olympics on TV -- the TV didn't work. One of our group worked all day, contacted the service provider, and found that one cable was missing. Thanks to his expertise, we finally had a working TV. The house was clean and very well equipped, with lots of beds with warm quilts and two spotlessly clean bathrooms. We do pot-luck dinners, and the kitchen was very well equipped, but the first to open the oven nearly screamed. It is an old stove, which is okay, and self cleaning at that, but it is fair to guess that the OVEN HAD NEVER BEEN CLEANED. So our dinner started with huge clouds of black smoke! The wood stove was wonderful, however, there was only one log in the house when we arrived. In the dark, we found the stacked wood outside, we chopped our own kindling (!) and lugged in the wood. We were able to park 8 cars, which was a joy! We would have wished for an additional half-bath (but it probably wouldn't fit in anywhere) and TREADS ON THE STAIRS to the room up in the eaves - the stairs were very slippery. Perhaps this all sounds a bit picky, and that is not our intention. It was a welcoming site for our winter reunion, and the cozy house was truly wonderful.

Cozy ski house

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time I stayed in this home with a group of friends for a long weekend ski getaway. It is cozy, plenty of room for our group, all of the items we needed to prepare large meals in the kitchen and the host is very responsive. We particularly like the wood stove and large kitchen table. Great memories here, we hope to be back again next winter!

Stay was good, but the property manager was very unfriendly

  • 2 of 5

I feel sorry leaving a negative review. In fact, my friends and I have been renting through Homeaway for years and have always had good experience. But unfortunately , not this time.

The property manager was blaming us ( in a quite unfriendly manner) for not having cleaned up the house properly (e.g. left dishes in the sink, didn't move trash, didn't turn on the dishwasher, etc.). Yet we indeed followed every single rule for cleaning up when we left! I asked the manager to provide evidence for every thing she accused us of but she wouldn't. She was suspicious that we had extra guests just because we used extra sheets! In fact we did not, and there's even one bed left untouched. The manager threatened us that she would have to keep our deposit but in the end she agreed to refund us because [apparantly] they found no damage at the house. However, it took them 3 weeks to proceed with the refund. The manager did not respond to our messages until we contacted Homeaway.

To be fair, he stay per se was enjoyable. The house is very close to the ski resort and is equipped with all the basic appliance we need. It's spacious enough to hold our party of 10. The only issue we had was that the firt floor gets really hot with the heat on but the second floor can get a bit cold during the night.

Owner's Response: Your negative review hurts the owners, especially when you said the house was enjoyable. You are doing it to get back at me which is not what reviews are for. I am the property manager of this property along with 60 others in the Sugarloaf area. I am also the owner of a cleaning business with over 200 accounts in the area. I still clean the majority of my properties with my crew and I was there that day. You did indeed leave the house a mess. You were disrespectful of the property and did not follow the rules. I wrote to you and told you we did not want you back at our properties because of the way you left this one and because of this you write a negative review. I am sure our future guests can read the hundreds of reviews i receive on my properties to see that I am an honest and caring property manager and that you did this out of spite. We have 13 reviews on this property. All 5 stars.

Quintessential Maine Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cabin that fit our 14-person group. Everyone had a bed and linens, and the on-demand hot water heater ensured everyone had a hot shower. Plenty of wood for the wood stove kept the cabin warm and toasty. Seating in the living room was limited but we were able to make due with the bean bag chairs from one of the rooms. Overall, the cabin worked out perfectly and Cheryl was available and responsive for any questions. I would highly recommend.

Great place for a group!

  • 5 of 5

A group of 12 of us stayed at the cabin for 3 days of skiing at Sugarloaf. There was enough space for everyone to spread out at the end of a long ski day. There was plenty of space to prepare and eat meals for our large group. The house was extremely clean when we arrived which was really nice. Would definitely stay here again in the future.
