My wife and I grew up in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and both vacationed in the Catskill mountains while growing up. It has always been a special area for us. As an adult I had to the honor of working as a Musician at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble for many years, which prompted us to purchase this home. The house has a really great energy to it, it feeds our souls and leaves us yearning for our next visit. We are really glad that we have decided to share the experience of our home and area with others.
Peter Bennett purchased this house in 2007
The property has very easy access on a beautiful scenic road across from a creek. It is conveniently located in the middle of the Catskill mountain region allowing for easy travel to neighboring towns for skiing, hiking,Saugerties HITS horse shows, golfing and many more outdoor recreational activities.
We very much enjoyed our two night stay here near Woodstock. Just two of us, we were looking for a quiet getaway near some hiking trails, and this small house served its purpose well.
The house itself is small, you enter to the living room and kitchen offset from that. Any more than a close couple and maybe a child would be pushing it, size wise. There are two bedrooms, small but comfortable, and one bathroom. The kitchen is a lovely place to make a meal, and has a large window overlooking the back yard, and woods.
We were there around Thanksgiving, but the backyard looked enjoyable if the weather was better - chairs and a fire pit up against some woods. Other reviews have mentioned it is just off a road, and while it is, its not a heavily traveled road. Its also very conveniently located if coming from the city - near 87, and a couple minutes to 28 if you are driving further in to the mountains, and only 10 minutes from Woodstock.
The only issues we had were the lighting and the water. Its very dim, and there is little overhead light, so we had to contort ourselves a bit under lamps and so forth to read comfortably. Second, the water must be from a well - very strong sulphur smell, especially in the bathroom, so you have to keep that closed. I don't know if there is anything to be done about that, but its noticeable; they thoughtfully provide water for drinking and cooking in kitchen. Wifi is strong, the TV is connected through Roku, not cable, so you can't watch live TV. Also to consider, its not the most up to date, fancy place - its totally comfortable, has everything you need, but its not modern or newly redone.
The owners were easy to communicate with via text, easier to get in and out, that was great.
This place was just perfect for our ladies getaway! The house was centrally located to all the areas we wanted to see. The property was just as photographed. There were plenty of amenities and plenty of space. Comfortable sleeping. Easy check in and out. As another reviewer stated there is a sulfur odor to the water in the bathroom. Wouldn't keep us from coming back - just letting others know in case you are sensitive to the smell like I am. Bottled drinking water was left for us. The kitchen appliances were really nice. Did not see any laundry on site - but was not an issue for our stay. Owners were easy to communicate with and responsive. We brought some of our own wood for the outdoor fire pit but never ended up needing it. There did not seem to be wood supplied - so keep in mind if you want a campfire. Great Stay! THANKS
We were very happy with our stay, the home was very inviting and clean. Will definitely be back.
The house itself is easy to find, in a great location and exactly as pictured. So cute and comfy for a quick trip. The TV/wifi situation is great with NetFlix and Amazon streaming. The one issue I wish we had known about is the smell - there is a strong sulphur smell emanating from the bathroom. We texted the owners to let them know and they quickly responded to let us know that the house water is safe, just drawn from a well which can cause a smell. They also sent the property manager over to change the water filter but by then we were getting ready to head out for the day. If that issue is resolved, the house is a great option for lodging in the area!
Our only negative comment concerning this home away property is it's close to a very busy highway and if your not accustomed to street traffic you may be awakened by the traffic. The owners were easy to work with and very helpful. Their home was very comfortable and had everything needed for our stay.
After a long day driving up from NYC with several stops to hike and sightsee along the way; this house was exactly what we needed. It was very clean and had all the basic essentials to help us cook dinner and have a nice relaxing night after a day of hiking.
The owners are very kind, helpful and responsive!
