Why Jeffrey And Patricia VanHoose chose Boone

This is a great property. Peaceful setting. Overlooking fishing pond. Great for Christmas, Thanksgiving any Holidays. We are 2.5 miles from Boone and 10 minutes from Blowing Rock NC. Just minutes from town.

What makes this cabin unique

Great Location, but just minutes away from Boone. Very peaceful sitting on the deck overlooking fishing pond. Listening to the locust at night along with the bull frogs from pond. Also campfire pit at pond is relaxing and fun for the kids.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cabin! Everything was perfect! We went to Boone for shopping at the Mast General Store & Amex. The snow tubing at Jonas Ridge and everyone had a blast. Bummed there was no snow but had fun hiking to Linville Falls.

Thank you Again!

Cozy, peaceful, and enjoyable stay for our family:)

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised and excited when we arrived at this beautiful cabin. We found it to be warm and inviting, spacious and clean. My husband and I loved sitting, relaxing and enjoying the fireplace. The kids loved the hot tub, walking down to the private pond and checking out the fish, ducks, and geese they saw there. There's a private paved driveway that we took some nature walks on (saw some wild turkeys:) There was plenty to do as a family as well, we were close to Boone and visited Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock. We are also a family who golfs, so had fun getting to play a couple days at some awesome courses nearby. The owners were very kind and helpful if we had any questions. We were all very sad to leave Easter morning but I have to say that it was pretty cool to wake up, take my cup of coffee out on the deck and be welcomed by several deer grazing there (especially the babies, so cute!) Lots of good memories, we'll definitely be back!!

Not what expected

  • 2 of 5

Good: Beautiful interior with some updated features including a couple stainless steel appliances. Nice layout overall. Very convenient to town, shopping, and slopes. Adequate linens.

Bad: Not as advertised. Listing mentions private drive and private pond. The drive is shared with several other houses and the cabin alone is a DUPLEX! We expected privacy and didn't feel that way. Family staying in downstairs below us. Hot tub on the front porch (Not private!) Took 30 minutes to find Wi-Fi connection password ( who would have thought to look on piece of paper on the wall by the back door) Awoke first morning to a man cutting wood with a chainsaw on property. Can't watch more than three Tv's. Someone always had to turn a tv off.

Worst: Hot water lasts 7 minutes at most. Regardless of upstairs or downstairs, dishwasher not in use, washer not in use, and only one shower in use. A cold shower in January is no fun.

Owner's Response: I will have to correct you on a few comments. This is a 3 story home. We have an ASU student in the basement apartment which I have advertised in our listing. There is no family downstairs and this is not a duplex. He may have had a friend over. The Wi-Fi connection is posted on the wall in the kitchen along with checkout procedures in a Plexiglas display stand. It also has phone numbers listed to call us if anything is wrong or you need help with anything during your stay. My husband did come down to the cabin and asked you to move your vehicle out of the front yard so you wouldn't mess up with tire tracts, mud due to snow & wet weather we have had. We also have reflectors up so customers want park in the yard. You did not let him know you were having any issues. This home is the only home on this private graveled road. There are other home around so if someone was cutting wood I guess it was a neighbor. Our pond on the property is private. It is for us and our guest that stay with us. Communication goes a long way. I feel like we could have help out with the issues you say you were having if you had of just call or let my husband know. We have been doing this for a long time and we want our guest to have a great stay. Things do happen and we always do our best to get it right during a stay.

Very comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

Nice place to stay while visiting my son at App State. Not too far to get to campus from here. Owner's were very responsive when needed.

The house is very clean and has comfortable furnishing. My only suggestion would be to add reading lights in the bedrooms and the living room.

Quiet and Relaxing with Modern Conveniences

  • 5 of 5

Overall, I highly recommend renting the Mountaineer Cabin. It is isolated and quiet but it is close to the city conveniences of Boone (10 minute drive) and Blowing Rock (20-25 minute drive). It is also close to the Blue Ridge Parkway (entrance off US 421). You will hear many sounds of nature here but not much in the way of city noises. The cabin was roomy and everything worked well. There is plenty of room for 6 to 8 people. The hot tub was relaxing and the Wi Fi connection was excellent. The road to the private drive is paved and though the private drive is gravel, it was in good shape. The gas fireplace worked well. The fishing pond is a short walk and is good for largemouth bass fishing. There are some large catfish in the pond and some fat blue gills as well. We also made some new friends at the pond, Elvis and Little Elvis, two ducks who live at the pond. Elvis will come right to you looking for food. Little Elvis is a smaller duck and more skittish but you can feed him (from a bit of a distance) as well. We saw several deer around the cabin each day we were there. The owners were very helpful with all of the questions we had. Again, I highly recommend renting this cabin.
