Where 'Old' Austin meets 'New' Austin: Keeping Austin Weird
Tucked away, and yet ideally located to enjoy ACL, SXSW, and all the central Austin festivals. If you’re headed to Formula 1, the Abbey is an easy 20 minute ride. In town for football? The Abbey is 5 miles from UT.
The studio is completely separate from the upstairs property, and guests have full and complete access to the studio apartment. The Studio also has its own driveway for off-street parking, and a small patio area in front of the studio.
Guests will receive a code to access the property at an agreed upon check-in time and date. There may be guests staying in the upstairs house if the owner is away. We encourage you to be friendly and share your Austin experiences, but respectful that some guests may prefer their privacy.
Right around the corner is the Texan Market convenience store, Randall’s supermarket, or venture a little further and pickup groceries at the fabulous Central Market or the Wheatsville Co-op organic grocer. Manchaca Road boasts two very non-generic convenience stores, The Texan Market and Live Oak Market. Great beer, wine, and unique snack options with some interesting folks manning the registers.
Also, I have been told that the sofa bed mattress is more comfortable when placed on the rug.
Public transportation exists in theory in Austin, but you will be much happier with a car, or even better, a bicycle. We are a Car2Go town, if you think you’ll only need a car occasionally. Bicycle rentals abound. We recommend Bicycle Sport Shop or Barton Springs Bike rental.

I'm from Kentucky and can tell you all about bourbon, horses and tobacco. I studied electrical engineering in the late 90s, and moved to Austin soon afterwards. I like travel (Spain!), helping my friends make art, walking/running/cycling, dancing downtown, and breakfast tacos.
Bradley purchased this Studio in 2012
Why Bradley chose South Lamar
Part of a charming 1937 cottage recently renovated and ready for your Austin experience. The studio is an 800+/- SqFt walk-out basement that feels like a loft. Steel I-beams in the ceiling and acid etched concrete floors and walls give it a uniquely urban vibe. Windows on three sides keep it light and bright. Super comfy king-size bed, a queen –size sofa sleeper “hide-a-bed”, and a twin bed, accommodate 5 adults easily. There’s a 32 inch HDTV. The dining table seats 4. The kitchen is outfitted with all the basics pots, pans, glassware, and dishes for cooking and dining. Appliances include electric stove, microwave, fridge, toaster, Bosch dishwasher, and Bosch washer/dryer making a longer-term stay a pleasure. All linens are provided for your stay. The studio bath has a shower (no tub). Mini-split AC provides heating and cooling. Now with GoogleFiber 1 Gbps (1000 Mb) internet (wifi-only) and TV.
What makes this Studio unique
Aubergine Abbey is only a couple of minutes from South Lamar, a very hip, happening part of Austin. You’ll be just minutes from the Broken Spoke, Austin’s world famous honky-tonk, or head towards downtown to catch bands at The Saxon Pub, or The One-2-One Bar. Have cocktails at the Odd Duck, beer and tasty treats at Barley Swine, tapas at Barlata, taco’s at Torchy’s, grab a coffee at Irie Bean coffeehouse or dolmas at Phoenicia Bakery. Catch a movie at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. There is so much more, but you must come explore for yourself.

Aubergine Abbey was a cute little studio that had everything we needed. Refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, dishwasher, iron, hair dryer, microwave. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioner worked great. Showers were as hot as we wanted. This being my first time in Austin, I didn't know where anything was, but this quaint studio rental was in the midst of it all. Movie theatres, food trucks, mall, grocery stores were all very close to the rental. The location was in a nice area where the houses were painted lovely shades. Bradley was very accommodating and responded to my inquiries. I would definitely stay here again when we return to Austin.
Really nice little place
Everything worked out well and I was very happy with the location and the place itself.
Great location at a great price
Enjoyed our stay and everything is exactly as described, or better. Bradley is super easy to deal with and he doesn't gouge customers with excessive fees ,insurance and taxes like most vacation rental owners. I really appreciate that! We hope to return often as we have a new Longhorn and another we are grooming.
Aubergine Abbey is a roomy well lit walk out basement with a complete, small, kitchen & you
We liked the space. The king size bed was roomy & comfortable. We appreciated the laundry facilities. It's in a good neighbourhood (south Lamar), easy to get around. We LOVE Austin!
My family and I had a great stay! Loved having the ability to do laundry. Place was very clean and quiet. Lovely park close by for the boys to play. Fabulous little home away from home!
Cozy perfect Austin hideaway with open plan full kitchen and living room, comfy beds!
We were in Austin saying goodbye to the City with our daughter who is moving to CA to work in Silicon Valley after 9 yrs of enjoying Austin life. We were on the go day and night touring the city and eating out, driving in the Hill Country, but this was always a perfect place to return to for sleep and rest. The bed had a thick topper and was super comfy, best pillows!, great kitchen with stainless counters, roomy fun open loft like space. The pics don't do it justice... the owner did a great job with lighting and furniture. Great price too and in the part of town we love... close to Downtown and pretty neighborhoods for walking. Our daughter lived in Bouldin so we were close by. We live in a house of windows at home...and enjoyed the quiet of this space... esp in a huge storm that came through and rocked Austin our first night!
