Owner vacation rental
Marcia Schrock purchased this apartment in 2012
I love traveling and when on vacation with my family we stay in apartment rentals whenever possible. These accomodations have a more personal touch and a chance to mingle with the locals. My goal is to offer my guests exactly what I look for in a vacation rental: comfort, location and a trip that they will never forget.
A carefully renovated and spotless top floor apartment in a building with a lift, this property is very well situated only steps away from the lakefront, the old city of Como and the ferry terminal. The A/C is very effective and a lifesaver in the current temperatures. It's five minutes walk from the train terminal to Milan Cadorna. Marcia is the perfect host, never intrusive but just a text away and a fount of useful advice. We had a wonderful stay and would certainly come again - La Mansarda is very good value for money in an increasingly expensive part of the world. Highly recommended.
Marcia went overboard to make our 3-day visit perfection. She met us at the train, delivered us to the "as-described" apartment, and guided us to the cable car and ferries. A one-day ferry trip to Bellagio was perfect. The apartment is an easy walk to many pretty restaurants and there is also a silk "outlet" nearby. Marcia also helped with train schedules to return to Milan and delivered us to the station. I would definitely return to this apartment and recommend to other couples.
The title of this apartment says it all - it truly is the perfect location. We stayed 3 weeks at the apartment. Marcia is easy to reach and always available to answer questions. We didn't need much assistance, as we figured out most everything about the apartment pretty quickly - So first, the apartment - it is as advertised on the top floor of a building just off the main square in Como, steps from everywhere - elevator is available, but we took the opportunity to exercise by using the stairs each day. Bathroom is functional, though if you are tall, taking a shower will be a challenge, as the tub/shower has an angled slope roof that is just about 5' in height when you are standing in the tub. Marcia recently added a washing machine in the bathroom which was a help, and she's got a rack to hang clothes on to dry which you can set up in the kitchen area. Bedroom is spacious and has everything needed (two small closets, some drawers, and a small bench to sit on along with the bed). There's an A/C unit in the bedroom, but we didn't need it as the weather was cool. Kitchen/living room is as pictured, again, all functional and efficient use of space. Cooktop is induction, takes some practice to turn it on but once you master it, cooking is easy. I got pretty adept at making expresso with the mokka pot but you can also make american coffee by boiling water and using instant. Dining area works for two folks, and there's a hideaway table you can pull out if you are having guests. We had 4 people total for dinner one night and it all worked. The utensils and cookware you'll need is available and there's two grocery stores nearby for everything you need for food IF you choose to eat at home - which we did every other night. Otherwise Como invites you into its many restaurants (but make reservations in advance). Marcia can recommend a few, and they are good. Gelato is right around the corner (I recommend the Guidi shop) and there's a pizza place downstairs (Marcia has a menu by the door) if you don't want to go far for dinner. Marcia had clean sheets and towels set up each week for us. Would definitely return and stay here again, May is perfect time of year to visit Como before it gets too hot and crowded. Wifi was strong and consistent, and TV had plenty of options (Italian mostly, but some English channels). All in all, a great place for 2 people to stay in Como.
We loved the apartment. Marcia was wonderful by picking us up at train station. She recommended great restaurants and local events. We will book this apartment again when we return to Como
Convenient attic flat (with lift) in central Como, only yards from the lake. Well placed for ferry trips on lake, exploring the town or going to Brunate on the funicular. Marcia is very helpful with local information, quick to respond and reliable.
We stayed at La Mansarda for a week at end of Sept. 2015. It truly is the perfect position half a block from the lake, right in the Old Town, across the street from the ferries you will take to Varenna, Bellagio, etc., close to all the restaurants, an easy 5 min. walk to Como Nord train station. We love just being able to walk out of our pied-à-terre and allowing the adventure to begin!
The apartment is clean, light, has a separate one bedroom with the best bed of our 3 week trip, great hot water & water pressure, strong wifi, and an elevator, which we are starting to appreciate more and more. There is an excellent pizza place right below on first floor, and we took advantage of that the first and last nights.
We usually look for a place with a washing machine, but the lack of one was greatly outweighed by all the other advantages of the apartment.
The very exceptional thing about the apt. is Marcia herself! She offered to pick us up at the train station, met with us going over the apartment and recommendations for restaurants (yes, Osteria del Gallo is not to be missed), to-do's, etc., anything you might want to know. At the end, she picked us up at 6:30 a.m. to take us to a more distant train station. Marcia is an incredibly caring landlord, and we were the fortunate recipients!
Cozy place at excellent location near water, dining, sightseeing and shopping. My husband was happy about the AC. The owner was very kind and helpful. We recommend this place to any couple or single traveler who is looking for a place in downtown Como. Everything is walking distance.
