About Jason

We are a married couple living in Austin, Texas, somewhat recently transplanted from NYC. I practice law in Austin and in NYC and my wife travels quite a bit for her work. Marfa is our favorite getaway and, with our busy schedules, we just do not make it out as often as we would like. We love our home in Marfa and all of our wonderful friends there. Whether you are returning visitors, or new to Marfa, we believe you will love it as much as we do.

Jason purchased this house in 2008

Why Jason chose Big Bend

We purchased this home in Marfa because, after we moved from NYC to Austin, we craved a place to get away from the Austin heat. We chose Marfa because, while Marfa is a small town, the town's residents are a unique blend of big-city sophisticates, ranchers/cowboys, and long-time residents. Marfa has a creative and eclectic vibe that reminds us of a smaller, and more isolated, Taos. Whether you are interested in hiking in the mountains, or fine-dining and gallery-hopping, or all of the preceding, Marfa is simply a wonderful place to unwind. Go to marfalist dot org and find out what is happening in Marfa.

Spacious, well-appointed house for Marfa lovers

  • 4 of 5

We had a terrific stay and the house was great for two couples with very separate bedrooms and baths. Walking distance to all the key Marfa locations and a horse and goat nextdoor!

Just what we wanted

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a house in Marfa to serve as a central hub during our daughter's wedding at the Capri. This house was perfect. It had plenty of room for our family, and it was in easy walking distance of everything we needed.

The kitchen was especially important for us because I was planning to bake desserts for the wedding reception. The oven and stovetop are gas, and it did take us some time to figure out how to turn the knobs properly to get the oven heated. The property manager came over to help, and we learned we were not the first to have difficulty figuring that out. It would help to have some instructions somewhere. The coffee maker was also a little tricky because it has a grinder attached to it.

A horse and goat are in a field next to the property, and we enjoyed watching them together. It added to the rustic feel.

Owner's Response: Sorry for the issues regarding the stove. That fancy stove is not an easy thing. We will work on making sure instructions are available for future guests. Thanks for the great idea. Please come back!

Very large comfortable desert adobe home

  • 5 of 5

This house is frackin great. There are two living areas - one den-like area with a TV and bookshelves, and one front room where the dining table is. The bedrooms are arranged for privacy and there is more space than you need. The kitchen is awesome - VERY comfortable, lots of workspace, cook-friendly, has most equipment you need, etc.

The two bikes and very much a bonus. Yet, you can walk to Cochineal for dinner, or to El Cosmico to see a band. Located a few blocks south of The Capri.

Cool concrete and tile floors. Vintage-style baths. Minimal clutter. Quiet. Laid-back. All around - pretty much Marfa.

Comfortable & Calming - Wonderful Abode!

  • 4 of 5

A wonderfully comfortable rental that strikes a great balance between simplicity and stylish. The immaculate kitchen serves as a gathering spot to cook, eat drink and be merry. With the bedrooms spaced across the house - you could be hooting and hollering on one side and sleeping on the other. Great location in Marfa - the home's bikes are an added jem!

Only reason I went four stars instead of five was a utilities issue that was outside of the owner's control... but was addressed promptly the next morning and the owner graciously refunded our first night's fees. Jason was a fantastic host and I will definitely consider this home for my next Marfa visit!

Peaceful & Relaxing ~ Loved it

  • 5 of 5

The house is immaculate and completely uncluttered which inspires a very peaceful experience. The house has that incredible energy that is only found in Marfa. The bedding and beds are fantastic and the overall design of the house is very stylish. The house has everything you need and everything you want as well.

We love Marfa and can’t wait to visit again soon. We will definitely be staying here from now on. Thank you!

Spacious, great light, and tastefully simple.

  • 5 of 5

The perfect getaway to relax, think or do absolutely nothing. The house is large with a great kitchen. A short walk to the Food Shark, Cochineal and other restaurants downtown. Sleep late, make your coffee, and read the Times online at the large dining table while listening to Marfa NPR. The house has a good vibe -- I've stayed there several times.
