Driftwood...an Exuma hidden gem.
We absolutely loved Driftwood! The house is perfect. The living area is extremely comfortable, well stocked with movies, and great WiFi by Exuma standards. The kitchen is well stocked with a great stove, big fridge, and everything you need to cook at home...grill and all. There is also a 10 seat table on the front porch where we ate every meal. We have three active little boys age 3 to 12 and they loved running out the front door onto our private beach and jumping into the water. Mom and I loved that the lagoon was very safe, no waves, little boat traffic and no current so we felt safe with the boys in the water at all times. The beach is also private so if your kids are into private dance parties or spur of the moment wrestling matches or towel fights, you never have to worry about disturbing anyone. We rented a boat for the week and never had any issues getting to the doc. There is also a beach access about 100 yards away on the other side of the island. Finally, Hank and Helen were awesome! They picked us up at the airport and checked in on us almost every day...but we never needed anything. If you have kids and are staying at Staniel Cay, Driftwood is a must. We will go back again.
We had a fantastic stay .... House is as described and pictured. Might be a little tight if you plan to sleep more than 5 or 6 but it was fantastic for a family of 4.
See you again soon Staniel
This was perfect for 6 people. The house had everything we needed and if it didn't, Hank next door provided it for us. He was fabulous! He got us snorkel gear, fishing gear, gas and even ice. The water and view is absolutely amazing. You can't get tired of looking at it. I would definitely stay here again. You must rent a golf cart. The house is located too far from the stores and restaurant to walk. We also rented a boat and were so glad we did. We rented both from Berkie at Isle General store. He had the best prices. Also definitely, definitely get Sanchez as a guide for a day. He was awesome and will take you to all of the must see places. (Swimming with the sharks, the pigs, etc.) His dad Sandy took us fishing one day and we , well actually he got us some huge lobster. As far as food goes we ate several nights at the Staniel Cay Yacht club. The food was great and they have a full bar with plenty of wine choices. Food on the island is more expensive but your on vacation so its worth it. Now here are the only negatives. One of the rooms has really small single beds in it so if you are tall it would not be for you. It is across from the airport but that did not bother us. The only other negative was the amount of bugs outside was awful. You couldn't sit outside without getting bitten by them. We were all covered in bites even though we covered ourselves in bug spray. I personally didn't care for the small plane (Flamingo Air) that brought us to the island, but I also do not like flying in general. You will not be disappointed if you come here for your vacation.
A wonderful protected oasis. This location is on an inland waterway which may sound distracting but it is protected from the prevailing winds coming from the east across the Atlantic. The winds during our stay never dropped below 15 knots but this protected area was calm. Beautiful sand beach, blue water and great temps made this an awesome location. The house was extremely well cared for and the caretaker Hank lived next door and was always accessible. A great place to stay on a beautiful island near some of the best points of interest in the Bahamas.
Not luxurious but comfortable
Should be mention that the house faces the airport other then that the house was clean and we enjoyed our stay!
There should be more stars!!!!!!!
My family and I just got back from one of our greatest vacations ever having stayed at the Driftwood Beach Cottage from July 10-15th. Raquel, Robert and Latika greeted us and made sure we were comfortable and happy throughout our stay. NIkki and Monique from 3N made sure that our golf cart, boating excursions and the food that we requested was all in order. Ronaldo, our amazing boating activities guide was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us a fun filled day with the pigs, sharks and atThunderball Grotto. Clifton our fishing guide was also very friendly and made sure that we caught a ton of fish. And then there's Andy, our chef for a night and a friend for always. He made us laugh and then made out mouths water with the delicious food that he prepared. Staniel Cay is a beautiful place with precious, friendly people. We will be back.
