Roxanne purchased this house in 1986
We purchased our lot and custom built this oceanfront cottage as our second home. We picked the location for its pristine ocean, privacy and clean environment. It is the perfect spot to write, paint, swim and relax by the sea.
Close proximity to the ocean, snorkeling and swimming. Incredibly clear water and abundance of tropical fish. Sounds of the ocean and gentle breeze. Quiet, private and a great relaxing getaway! Ideal for an artist or writer's retreat. A diver's dream come true.
I was pleasantly surprised that the listing for Aloha Ocean Hideaway and pictures accurately depicted the home and environs. The house was sparkling clean and well-maintained. Everything was in good working order. Snorkeling and sunsets were amazing. Lots of dolphins and reef fish were swimming the the cove facing the house. This was the peaceful retreat we had been in search of. We will definitely return.
Auckland, New Zealand
We loved our stay in this wonderful cottage. Being able to fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and to relax on the spacious lanai were just two of the magical parts of our stay on Hawaii.
We ate most of our meals there and used the cottage for our base for amazing day trips to the volcano, Hilo, the green sand beach, South Point, Waipio Valley & black sand beach. Thank you Roxanne.
Roxanne's oceanside cottage is everything that we had hoped it would be and we had a wonderful time! It is tucked out of the way, so if you plan to do a bunch of adventures, be prepared for some extra driving time. We felt it was well worth it.
It is as-pictured and bigger than we expected, especially the private deck overlooking the ocean, which made our trip. You always have the sound of the ocean and when the sun is up, it is truly magical. The kitchen & BBQ were great and we cooked almost all meals at home. It was well stocked with all the cooking basics. The washer and drier worked perfectly. The house is on a septic system and a water tank like all of Milolii. The house is not new, but it is in good repair and very clean all around.
The kitchen is very well lit, and otherwise the cottage has mood lighting, and the BBQ area & deck is not lit. We suggest taking a flash light, head lamp, or battery operated lantern if you can, we took all three and used them a lot.
Milolii is very remote, more so than we expected from the map. Depending what you are looking for this is either perfect or a challenge. The drive just to the highway from the house is 20 minutes on a steep, windly, one lane road, and the drive from Captain cook is quite windy as well.
This part of the island has a bit more cloud and rain than up north. We found it (in late Oct) always perfect at Sunset, and then tended to get cloudy mid afternoon, and clear up again for Sunset. It frequently rained at 4am or so.
The access to the water is right in front and the snorkelling + visibility here is very good and you usually have it to yourself. Entry and exit from the water is dependent on calm waters, so this may change with the seasons. We saw dolphins our first day!
Any tropical ocean cottage will have some bugs around. The screens and everything are in good repair, but we saw a few too many cockroaches that found their way inside, especially during wind storms, but nothing that got in the way of our holiday. We told Roxanne about this and she was going to give it some attention. Sitting outside at night with lights on is a bit of a challenge bug-wise and we gave up on dinners out there. There are a normal amount of tiny mosquitos out, mostly at sunset. I never really saw one, but they found my ankles!!
Very quiet and special cottage
Face ocean, beautiful deck and spacey room.
It's built on the lava flow, beach is black and can't swim there.
But I saw people diving there.
It's very worthy to stay there for one week.
The owner prepare everything.
It's very comfortable and cozy
Roxanne's place is super clean and exactly as pictured. We really loved the access to the water and the clear water even on week that followed a large storm. Great snorkelling here with lots of fish! The neighborhood is very remote from the bigger towns and the highway has a limited speed limit so you'll want to allow extra time if you're planning on exploring up north. It was super hot and humid the week we stayed so that was a challenge but that probably wouldn't have been different on any spot that didn't feature AC. Roxanne was very responsive when I did call to check on our departure date.
