About the property

Villa, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 20)

Undisputedly the best family place on Cayuga Lake in the Heart of the Fingerlakes.

PLEASE NOTE: Ithaca College and Cornell University (Memorial Day) graduation weekends 2018 and 2019: Fixed price for up to one week's stay and up to 20 people. Similarly, please inquire for wedding events and rates.

Ideal for couples, small groups, retreats and large family reunions, as well as business retreats and strategy sessions, and popular for weddings of up to 150 people.

Superb and spacious home with 24 feet high cathedral ceilings and large windows facing the lake, elegantly furnished, original art work (partly by local artists), all natural paints, superb stereo/large flat TV for DVDs, 100% hardwood or tile floors, wool, sisal or Persian carpets, Finnish sauna, Finnish fire place and wood stove, fire pit in the garden, 50 acres woodland, ravines, waterfalls, right on the lake and with your own dock.

Also included is a daylight basement apartment with full bath, bedroom, living room, kitchen and wood/tile floors. The apartment is not rented to third parties unless you also rent the main house.

Weekly and week-end rentals for wine tours etc. available (2 day minimum); ideal for retreats, family reunions, writing your unfinished book, weddings, and more, all year round. Absolutely breathtaking in the summer, autumn, winter and spring!

adjacent dining area also looks out on the lake. And the home us surrounded by 50 acres of woods; great strolls and playing for kids. Even a fire pit is included, a sauna inside the house, and more. The daylight basement apartment's living room also has a double futon which can easily serve as a 6th bedroom. And a charcoal grill is available for your use (please bring your own charcoal).

In addition to the bedrooms, with king, queen and double sized beds, the living rooms have large futons and a spare mattress so the house sleeps up to 20 if needed. (But if you come alone or as a couple, the place is still fabulous and affordable; I used to live there year round).

Here is what recent guests (and now friends) had to say:

“I suspect word-of-mouth is the best form of advertisement. Perhaps I might say that in my search for Shangri-La, I found it just outside Ithaca! … Quiet, peaceful, heavenly spot. Perfect for what I needed” (Allison May 2005).

“Your house is a credit to you the detail and work you have but into it has made it an extraordinary house. I must admit that the photo's on the Internet do not do your house any justice. It is by far one of the nicest house that I have seen. Thank you again for sharing it with us.” (Aidan from Ireland, June 2004)

“My best friends all came and had the most wonderful time. The kitchen, porch, and fire pit had the amazing quality of drawing people in to a warm, cozy and happy hanging-out environment. The house is beautiful and wonderfully maintained. Everything is beautiful: the location, house, woods and nice owner, fabulous décor! Thank you so much for sharing it with me for my graduation”. (Sally April 2005).

About Anatole Krattiger

Adjunct Professor at Cornell University, now living in Switzerland for the moment, my original country. But I come back to Ithaca, which I call my home, ever so often. And Cayuga Lake I call "my lake" (sorry neighbors). I designed the house in part (it's a Lindal Cedar Home). Some say that the decorations in each room some make the entire house like a museum. Each corner, each wall, tells a story.

I was originally a farmer (yes, in the Swiss alps, milking cows and making cheese). And that's why you'll find a cow bell collection inside. It's even famous: All bells from Indonesia, Sudan, Switzerland, Kenya and elsewhere got recorded to serve as sounds for movies and the like. In the meantime, I did some other things (and study) and now work at one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. For now!

Why Anatole Krattiger chose New York

It is simply gorgeous. Ithaca is Gorges!

What makes this villa unique

Some of my friends say I live in a museum. Lots of attention to detail, to art, to colors, etc. It is simply all round a wonderful place

Excellent Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

The house was absolutely gorgeous, and the property around it was even better. Hiking around the property, regardless of weather, is well worth your time (my group stayed in very early spring). The waterfall along the main road is stunning, and the lake front is very beautiful. A small highlight for me was the sauna. It was perfect after being out in the cold. I will definitely consider this property again when if I plan on taking a trip in the summer to the area. Highly recommend!

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week at the house. Perfect for a family vacation. Kids had a great time on the dock and playing under the waterfall. The kitchen was big to make dinner together. Wonderful time was had by all. Thank you for the memories.

Graduation Weekend

  • 5 of 5

My children and grandchildren enjoyed their long weekend, as well as myself. The house was perfect. Extremely well equipped- from kitchen to outdoor activities. Spacious enough for young ones to nap without being disturbed by adults. Beautiful view.

Beautiful and Unique Lakeside Home

  • 5 of 5

The rest of the reviews are spot on - this place is amazing. It's also huge. We were a group of 10 and had plenty of space.

Would absolutely book it again.

Wonderful Lakefront Destination near Ithaca, NY.

  • 5 of 5

We visited Krassamira Woods in the Fall for a family event. We wanted to bring everyone together from a multi-state area for a special occasion but also wanted everyone to have a vacation that was fun and interesting.

The house is perfect for a group and a destination in itself. The property seems expansive although there are other houses nearby - we explored the shores of Lake Cayuga and went jogging on the scenic and hilly driveway leading to the main road. Attractions are nearby and we visited the Taughannock Falls, a local winery, and the Cornell Campus.

Everyone night we were there we started a fire and enjoyed the beauty of the venue. The 2nd night was really fun when we discovered the Hula Hoops- everyone got to display their coordination or lack of it!

This is a great house to bring people together. We had everything we needed to prepare meals and make sure everyone was comfortable.

Anatole is a wonderful and response property owner and was easy to coordinate with.

Lovely retreat in Autumn

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Krassimira Woods the first week in October - saw the leaves changing throughout the week. The house was perfect for our group of sisters and sisters-in-law - not quite ready to hike the trail through the forest, but spectacular for cooking and dining and gazing at the lake through the grandest picture windows ever! (Not to forget the dock, the fire pit, the deck, so much more). Beautiful!
