Midpines House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

California has cowboys, beaches and surfing, skiing, hiking and shopping all rolled into one beautiful state. Seeing Yosemite when you vacation in California is a must. For this vacation, expand your mind and enjoy a true California experience by staying in a straw bale home. Unlike those of big bad wolf fame, modern straw bale homes are warm and comfortable. They provide a unique place to rest your soul (and feet) after a day of discovering Yosemite.

Our newly constructed Yosemite Straw Bale vacation home is a wonder. While the straw bales provide incredible R-50 insulation, we are using passive solar heating for preheating our radiant floor heating system with an instantaneous hot water heater as a backup system. Our photovoltaic grid panels are naturally creating clean energy from the sun. We tested these techniques on our own home and perfected them in this vacation rental for your enjoyment. Made to feel like your private second home, design touches include a social kitchen with a granite slab bar height counter, finished dyed concrete floors, and cozy radiant floor heating. Sitting hilltop at 3000 feet elevation (914m), the house includes a private deck perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views. We are also honored to share with you, eight fine art prints by renowned Sierra photographer Howard Weamer.

The gates of Yosemite are a mere 35 minutes away* on a drive that follows the wild and scenic Merced River. (*Your drive may take longer as you stop to put your feet in the river or photograph the wildflowers along the way.)

We enjoyed everything about our stay.

  • 5 of 5

The house beautiful, it was close to Yosemite and a very good restaurant called the bug. Anything that went wrong was corrected right away. We would stay there again. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone staying in the area.

Beautiful home tucked in the hills of Mariposa

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect home for our family of 4. We loved how secluded it was, but how we were able to get to Mariposa in just 20 minutes. The house itself was updated with beautiful finishes. It was wonderful to come home to a cool house after a long/hot day in Yosemite. I would definitely recommend this to families or really anyone who loves to be out of the main drag, but would not recommend it to people who are going to Yosemite everyday. It is a rather long drive (at least 1 hour) from the house to the park.

Great stay at the New Straw Bale Home

  • 5 of 5

The property was great. It was clean and well equipped. I cannot say enough about the house. After a long day in Yosemite during the busy season I would rather go back to a nice quiet place than spend the money being in the middle of Yosemite Village.

Wonderful home away from home outside of Yosemite!

  • 5 of 5

Our family (3 adults and 2 kids) had a wonderful stay in the Straw Bale Home in Midpines! This is a beautiful home and super well equipped. We cooked all of our meals and were so pleased with the amount of pots/pans/utensils etc available for our use. The supermarket was only a 15 min drive down the road and had a great selection of organic and gluten free products. Also, there is a lot of wildlife to be seen nearby which the kids loved. We saw deer and wild turkey right outside of the house, really cool! This home was about an hour from the gate at Yosemite, but the drive there is so picturesque it goes by pretty quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wished we had booked an extra night or two! I highly recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in the area.

Great home with amazing views

  • 4 of 5

Our experience was fantastic. The inside of the home was perfect with modern amenities. The views of the mountains from the living room were stunning. My only complaint would be the deck and deck furniture need some tlc. Would definitely recommend this property to anyone taking a trip to Yosemite.
