I am a Retired real estate broker for the past 40 years. I love the Midtown Memphis area and love to make people comfortable and happy when they are visiting our place.
Shirley Papp purchased this apartment in 2005
This building is so unique that It was a joy to decorate each and every unit individually. It is very charming and Historic. Was used back in the early 1900"s as apartment building for the Officers on the Barges going up and down the Mississippi
A nice clean place in midtown Memphis about a 10-15 minute drive from Beale Street. If you stay in a lower unit it can be noisy with renters above since the units are wood floors. Fantastic hot shower.
My wife and I enjoyed our 9th anniversary in Memphis this past weekend. We enjoyed the suite #12 with balcony, it was peaceful and relatively quite almost every night (nothing the owner can do about unruly people in restaurant parking lot at 2 in the morning). The unit was clean and smelled fresh every time we walked in. The weekend of our stay it appeared that maintenance was just finishing up installing a nice brick patio and grill area, assuming for future use for guests. The owner was very accommodating the first night of our stay when I couldn't find the TV remote; she actually sent the maintenance people over with a new remote and then it was discovered I failed to open a drawer completely to find the remote; in my defense who puts a TV remote in a drawer in a different room anyway. Overall our experience was great and if we ever get to Memphis again; we'll probably stay here.
Only issue we had was with parking, the lot was very small and tight. Without properly painted and indicated parking spots, some guests were parking like dips by taking up what could have been enough room for 2 vehicles or parking so close that we actually had to climb over the center console to get in. On our last night we went back early to relax before dinner and decided not to leave again so we didn't lose the spot in the lot, instead we walked to the corner bar for dinner instead of heading to a local restaurant.
Let me start by saying the inside of our suite was beautiful and extremely clean. It very much exceeded my expectations and looked so much better than the pictures, which is always a pleasant surprise. Every time we walked into the property we were surprised by how it stayed smelling so clean. So the property itself and inside is super A+.
There was even a little patch of grass at the back of the property for one to walk ones' dog, and the fact that this property was dog friendly was a big plus.
The one thing I would like to point out however, is that the unit we were in was at the back of the property (so maybe this isn't a problem with other units) -the back units not street side - are right behind a busy street, which isn't a problem, however, right on the other side of the property there's a patio/parking lot of a restaurant. It was so loud. Constant noise from 6pm to well after midnight. It was so bad that we ended up leaving a day early because we just didn't get any sleep and would rather have driven the 9+ hours home than be kept up by the noise, and really? What is one to do? Call the cops on an entire restaurant? lol. It was unfortunate. Again, this may not be a problem in any of the inner units, but the one we were in (12) this was a very big issue. I feel really bad leaving a review like this, but I really wished I would have known.
The location was good! If you have kids stay somewhere else. We were put on the 2nd floor and the balcony was very narrow (more like a walk space) so we couldn't use it and no elevators. My one year old has a heavy step and the tenants below kept banging on their ceiling NON STOP mid morning (from 9a-noon). It's hard to tell a a one year old to sit down and be still, So, like I said, it's not kid friendly. The floors were very dirty when we arrived, our feet were black, otherwise it was clean and the sheets smelled good like bleach. It's a very old apartment which had its ups and downs. Kitchen equipped with all needed necessities. Toilet seat was broken when we arrived but they fixed it the next day.
We had a terrific stay here last week. The condo was very clean and everything was in working order. No problem finding a parking space in the lots as well. The condo is located in a nice neighborhood and is very central to all the must-sees in Memphis. There are several nearby restaurants within walking distance as well. I'd highly recommend this property.
