About Lucy Hodgkins

Paul & I inherited this beautiful home a few of years ago. We completely renovated the kitchen with granite countertops and added many touches to make it a cooks kitchen. About five years ago we purchased my Aunt and Uncle's Pine Cone Cabin, next to ours on Green Lake, and began our seasonal rental business. As yet there is only a few reviews for Hodgkins' House but there lots for Pine Cone Cabin, if you would care to see more reviews. We worked like beavers tearing it down to the outside walls and rebuilding it. I than had the fun of decorating it with things from the LL Bean outlet in Ellsworth. We have been so blessed with having wonderful renters .that we decided to rent Hodgkin' House as a weekly or monthly summer rental.

Why Lucy Hodgkins chose Downeast and Acadia

It's a beautiful place to hold your special event, weddings, reunions, and get togethers, with manicured lawns and plenty of off road parking.

Wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

Our experience at the Hodgkins' House was amazing!

Paul and Lucy are incredibly friendly, helpful and answered any questions we had immediately.

The house is gorgeous, spacious, well maintained and immaculately clean. The house is also stocked with everything we needed to help us enjoy our vacation! The property is also incredibly well maintained and has a spectacular view.

Again, our experience was wonderful and we would highly recommend the Hodgkins' house!

beautiful and inviting home!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived for our week long stay (4 adults and 3 children) to a spacious yard with a beautiful view, fresh cut flowers in many of the rooms and complimentary Maine Blueberries in the freezer.

The house was clean and it is clear the owners take a good deal of pride in their home and also open their home to their guests. There was plenty of room for our group and we enjoyed fires in the yard in the evening.

Lucy and Paul were easy to work with and prompt with communication.

Most days, we drove into Acadia, so if that is your plan, understand that you will be making a short drive to do so.

Memorable Fall Vacation in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful experience renting this home in early October. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The view of Acadia from the back porch is postcard worthy and was a great backdrop for our morning coffee. We also had daily visits from a family of turkeys and saw a fox one morning. Our dog enjoyed the huge backyard with plenty of room to roam. The house was fully stocked for any occasion and was impeccably clean. The kitchen is modern and contains every appliance or gadget you will ever need. We also appreciated the satellite TV as we didn't miss one game of the baseball playoffs. The owners were great to work with and made for a very easy rental experience. We recommend this home for anyone looking for great vacation experience near Acadia.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the super review and for taking great care of our home. We are very lucky to have this beautiful view to enjoy. The fall leaves are the icing on the cake. Acadia is amazing all year, but in the Fall the days are warm, the nights cool and there are fewer tourists. Between the cable TV, Netflix and Wi-Fi everyone can stay connected if they choose. We would love to welcome you again to Hodgkins House overlooking Eastern Bay.

Fantastic home away from home - truly exceptional!

  • 5 of 5

This is truly an exceptional experience. The owners went out of their way - genuinely above & beyond - to make sure we enjoyed our stay. No typical "mix & match" bedding or plates, everything looked like it was our own home away from home. EVERYTHING was made available to us - all the way down to spices for cooking & condiments to put on our burgers! This didn't feel like a hotel or "camp" house. This felt like my own home, planted in a beautiful setting. The next time we go to Acadia, I know where we'll be staying!!!

Owner's Response: Wow, thank you so much! We are trying to build a core group of great return renters. Paul and I go on vacation for two weeks each year so we know how precious each day is. It drove me nuts to have to go to a store and buy a bottle of soy sauce just to use a dab. So I decided to leave all of our baking goods and everyday supplies. Renters are welcome to harvest herbs, chard and other vegetables and berries during their stay. Guests are welcome to use the lobster cooker and grill on the back deck to create your own shore dinner. Vacations are a special family time. Paul and I want your vacation to be the best ever.

Spacious spot for family exploring Mount Desert Island

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time at the Hodgkins' House! It was clean, spacious and comfortable for our family of 3 adults, 2 tweens and a dog. Appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, since we prepped many meals at the house. Also, the pre-packed beach bag with towels and sunscreen was a brilliant touch. When we weren't out and about we spent most of our time on the glassed-in porch or in the huge back yard.

For dining can highly recommend the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound (15 mins from house). If exploring the 'quiet' side of MDI, Thurston's Lobster Pound is a must for lobster rolls. Acadia Park was beautiful but parking at Jordan Pond House was a nightmare, and parking at the summit of Cadillac Mtn. was also challenging. If we were to do it again, would look into taking a shuttle tour around the park (apparently dogs are welcome on shuttles). The highlight of MDI was hiking the Ships Harbor Walk not far from the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. 40 minutes round-trip and stunning coastal scenery.

Owner's Response: Please thank all of your family for the great care you gave our home. Hodgkins house is relaxing place and even though we had a big storm while you were there, it was comforting to know you would have power from the automatic generator if the hydro failed. I leave the basic cooking items and condiments so our renters don't have to buy a pinch of this or a dab of that. Thank you also for your comments on the shuttle. I didn't know dogs are allowed. I'm going to try and put together a suggestion list for our guests. Just a tip, any other time but July and August you wouldn't have a problem parking. To me Fall is the best time to visit, less crowds, few bugs and beautiful colors. Thank you again for taking the time to write the review. Paul and I hope you decide to return to Hodgkins House. 2016 is the 100th birthday celebration of Acadia so if you are thinking of returning please book early.

Fabulous Five Star Maine Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Many thanks to Lucy and Paul for providing us with such a fabulous home away from home for the week! The house is impeccably maintained, well appointed and perfectly located! Lucy and Paul have thought of everything and have provided every amenity you can think of, including air conditioning. The internet connection is great as well. The house is spacious and open with a wonderful floor plan. A fabulous cook's kitchen made for many fun meals at home! The porch off the kitchen is an amazing place for early morning reading as well as sleeping! The yard and views are amazing and had plenty to keep the children busy! The location is perfect, just a short ride to Bar Harbor one way and Ellsworth, Blue Hill and Surry the other way. We went into Bar Harbor 4 times the week we were there! Everything is meticulously cared for both inside and out and Lucy and Paul make you feel very comfortable to enjoy the house and property to the fullest! Also located right near the beautiful Lamoine State Park and Beach. Early morning walks down to the beach and back were so peaceful and gorgeous and the perfect distance! All in all a terrific home and wonderful vacation. Would highly recommend and definitely would love to rent again!!!!

Notes:
Hodgkins' House is turn key ready just bring your food and warm clothes just in case. The first floor is wheelchair friendly, however assistance would be needed entering the home by lifting up one step. It has an automatic generator system. So no need to be concerned if the power goes out. Paul & I have taken great pleasure in making Hodgkins' House our seaside retreat. The living and dining rooms are air conditioned. There are no pools but Bloomfield Park, less than a mile away, was the drinking water supply for the summer cottages, is a public freshwater beach. If you are brave enough for the Altantic water tempature there is Lamoine Beach and Lamoine State Park. Both are fun to hunt for what the sea left behind.
