Enjoy the best view in town of Whiteface Mountain while relaxing in an Adirondack chair on the front porch of Solitude Lodge! Nothing else in your sight except an historic barn, pine trees, birch tress, and the cliffs of Quaker Mountain. We've worked hard to think of everything we could do to help you leave your worries at home. You will not need to think about bringing linens or towels, buying wood for the fire place or fire pit, removing your own trash, or cleaning. We are happy to take care of all of that for you at no extra charge.
Solitude Lodge is a newly, completely renovated home situated on 29 beautiful Adirondack Park acres. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and sleeps 8 very comfortably. The master bedroom has it's own bathroom and a king size bed. Bedroom #2 has a queen bed. It shares a hallway bath with bedroom #3 which has a double bed and two twin beds. The half bath and laundry room are on the main floor off of the kitchen. The kitchen is completely new with granite tile counter tops, and all new appliances, including a dishwasher. It is loaded with all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils you will need to prepare and enjoy meals together. The dining room has a large Adirondack rustic style birch and antler table that seats at least 8. Glass doors lead onto the deep front porch where you will find Adirondack chairs, a gas grill, and picturesque views in every direction! The spacious living room has wide plank pine floors, hand hewn beams, a stone fireplace, reading area, chess table, foosball table, rustic bar and dart board, and a 40' flat screen TV with DVD player. A second TV and DVD player for gaming and movies is in bedroom #3.
Although we worked hard to make Solitude Lodge so beautiful, comfortable, and relaxing that you might not want to go outside... it will be worth the effort if you do! On the property you can gather around the stone fire pit at night. During the day you can hike, challenge your friends to a game of horse shoes, or explore the 29 acres. Within a few miles you will be able to kayak, swim, fish, and play volleyball at the town beach at Lake Everest. You can hike, snow shoe, cross country ski, and mountain bike on a new set of trails just created 1 mile from the house. You can also ski, or snow shoe at Whiteface Mountain just three minutes away! The activities available within 15 to 30 minutes away are endless. Of course there's The Village of Lake Placid, all The Olympic Venues, horse shows, Ausable Chasm, The Wilderness Center, and many of the 49 high peaks just to name a few.
When you are done exploring you can come home to Solitude! Put your feet up and enjoy each other. We have been lucky enough to create many cherished memories with family and friends in this area. Our goal when renovating Solitude Lodge was to build a home that you could create your own memories in!
Some comments from our guest book...
- 'We had such a wonderful time with our family. Half of us went skiing, half went to Lake Placid. The slopes are just minutes away. This is the nicest house we ever stayed in, and we've been coming to this area since the '80ies. Certainly we will be coming again!'
- 'This is an awesome place, how wonderful! Great views, lovely house, thank you!'
- 'Great cabin,
We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage boys. Spending time together means everything to us! We spent years going north to ski at Whiteface Mountain with Grandma and Grandpa. The boys started skiing at The Kids Club at Whiteface when they were 4 years old. Now they are both ski instructors and one is in college. As they say... 'don't blink'. Over time we grew to enjoy sharing all of the seasons and activities this area has to offer with our family and friends. Buying and renovating this home was a dream come true. A real labor of love! Every choice we made was based on preserving the past and creating a future full of new traditions and mental snapshots! We would love to be a part of helping you create memories of your own!
When you sit on the front porch and have your morning coffee looking at the slopes of Whiteface, or your apres ski beverage looking at the cliffs of Quaker Mountain you will understand how we came up with the name Solitude
We stayed with our children and absolutely loved it here. The view of Whiteface is spectacular. The Chalet is well appointed. All the amenities of home. Spacious and everything is provided.
I would highly recommend this place without hesitation and we will be returning for sure.
Spent a long weekend here. This is a truly lovely place, well-kept, clean, and beautiful. Eating meals on the porch and watching the light change on Whiteface was relaxing, to say the least. Very convenient to Whiteface, Lake Placid, and plenty of hiking, mountain biking, etc... Highly Recommended!
My husband and I rent a house annually in the ADK and invite our kids and grandkids to join us. Our daughter and her family joined us at Solitude Lodge. Two of our grandsons (ages 7 & 8) and their parents joined us as we hiked Whiteface Mt. We have had the privilege of introducing various grandkids to the mountains we love. They have developed many exciting outings. We enjoyed this house so much, as we came and went from hiking trails, the beach, kayaking. The nights were so memorable as we spent each one around the fire making smores and camp pies. The views of Whiteface and surrounds mountains were awesome each morning as we drank coffee and ate breakfast on the back deck. The house was well equipped, decorated in mountain furnishings and decor, and wood was fully provided. What a special birthday I had that week and enjoyed the comfort of this house to come back to after each adventure each day.
My family stayed at Solitude Lodge over President's Weekend 2015 and we had a wonderful time. The house is exquisite. The fireplace was well stocked and was the centerpiece of our apres ski fun. We played lots of darts, fusbal and chess. The property is pretty big so I took a short hike behind the house one of the days. The house is also conveniently located close to Whiteface as well as hiking / cross country ski trails. The kitchen is well supplied so we cooked every night. I would definitely stay here again in the future.
We've rent three other places in ADK but this is the BEST and we WILL return. The home is comfortable, gorgeous, is equipped with everything you can want. The views are classic ADK views and to be able to sit on the porch and stare at Whiteface was calming and brought a sense of serenity and balance. We have been slowly introducing our grandkids to the ADK experience and this was our third year. Only 3 of our grandkids were able to make it (ages 8, 7 and 5). This was their first High Peaks experience and two of them climbed Whiteface Mt. with five adults. The boys drove down the mountain. We also climbed Ampersand Mt. in the rain and 2.5 baths were a welcome chance to clean up quickly and be on to the next experience…often time sitting around the campfire and enjoying the absolute quiet. You feel isolated on Hardy Road but realize the beach, kayaking, the animal rescue, fishing and the little grocery store (for the incidentals you forgot) are all close by. We did a paddle on Lake Everett and it was a fabulous flat water paddle and the rentals were reasonable. The bike trails are close by for mountain biking or early morning walks. Lots of room for kids to run, more than adequate parking, plenty of hot water, fully equipped kitchen. We are not sightseers but there's plenty of that too. Our favorite restaurant, the ADK in Keene isn't far away. I would HIGHLY recommend this place and owners and housekeeper were very easy to work with.
This is a very beautiful place to stay. We were a group of 8 - 4 adults and 4 young boys. The place is beautiful and very clean. Comfy beds, laundry, very quiet, fire pit, owner easy to deal with.
Solitude Lodge is located on 29 beautiful Adirondack Park acres divided by a scenic byway. As a family we enjoy sitting around the fire, hiking , and playing horse shoes on our own property. Some of our favorite things to do in the immediate surrounding area are skiing on Whiteface Mountain, kayaking at Lake Everest Beach, hiking and mountain biking in the new trail system recently created just 1 mile away. There is so much to enjoy!
