Carmel Point House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Cypress Hideaway is the perfect location on Carmel Point, just 2 blocks from the famous, white-sand Carmel Beach, and 3 blocks from Carmel River Beach in a quiet neighborhood. It is a lovely multi-level, redwood home with high open-beam ceilings that is spacious yet retains a cozy feel. It has a wood-burning fireplace, unique with a log built into the hearth area that came straight from Carmel River Beach about 40 years ago. It was designed and built with a love of nature, in a 'U' shape surrounding a large California Oak tree that sits beautifully in the center portion of the property.  A lovely, large hedge of Cypress trees offers the utmost feeling of privacy in the yard and house.  The house has a nice front sitting patio, beautiful for morning coffee, a deck off the master bedroom, and another patio off the 3rd bedroom/studio. Cypress Hideaway has 3 nicely-sized bedrooms (one king bed, and two with queen beds), and 3 baths, one with a sunken tub above which is a skylight where you can gaze at the stars above.  It has a small, but fully functioning kitchen with all new appliances, dishes, utensils...etc. Located within walking distance from the historical Carmel Mission, downtown Carmel with myriads of shops and restaurants to enjoy, and Carmel Mission Ranch dining overlooking Carmel River Beach. Cypress Hideaway is a perfect vacation get away for families or couples wanting to experience the beauty and charm of Carmel living.

Why The Owner chose Carmel

Built in 1973 by my parents, we have kept this home in our family and have many fond memories in it. Family and friends gathered at our house over the years and shared great times there and at the nearby beaches. (We even won the grand-prize in the Carmel Beach Great Sand Castle Contest one year -- what fun!) I have fond memories of exploring tide pools at the beach as a young teen coming from the cold of Illinois where we'd moved from. The wood design was my father's (an artist) and the preservation of the california oak tree, and the cypress hedge was of the utmost importance to him when building the house. We have kept our home as a vacation rental so we can enjoy visits ourselves, and so we can have others also enjoy it and have great Carmel memories.

What makes this house unique

The woodsy feel of the house is special, and the many windows make you feel like you are outdoors. But with the tall hedges you also feel the utmost privacy. A wood-burning fire in the living room is so cozy. Of course, the short walk to the beach(es) makes this such a special location.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a mini-family reunion arranged at last minute in Carmel .  I frantically started searching for a house to accommodate travelers from East and West Coast.

The pictures of Cypress Hideaway do not do it justice.  The house is very private from the front, so hard to image the surprise and enjoyment we all got at the unique floor plan and the way the house wraps around a very large tree in the back.  All bedrooms have access to individual decks that called us to set out and enjoy the privacy and ambiance.

Located within walking distance to the River beach and Carmel beach was all the more appealing.  Morning walks along the Carmel coast are breathtaking. Definitely a lovely experience all in all!  Thanks for allowing us the pleasure of a Cypress Hideaway stay.

Thanks again,

Great location! Unique beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

The Cyprus Hideaway in Carmel Point is a few short blocks from 2 fantastic beaches and surrounded by world class homes in the finest neighborhood on the central coast. The uniquely designed home is cozy and comfortable yet roomy enough to accommodate 6-8 people without getting underfoot. Each bedroom is a suite with a sitting room, bathroom and queen sized bed that provides plenty of space and privacy when you want it.

Carmel Point is just blocks from downtown Carmel shopping and restaurants and a short drive to Point Lobos, the 17 Mile Drive and Big Sur is right at your fingertips.

The owner is cordial and responsive and all amenities have been thoughtfully provided. Be sure to check out Rio Grill in the convenient Crossroads Shopping Center which has all your basic needs and the picturesque Carmel Mission is a short walk or drive.

You could not find a nicer, more convenient home in a more inspirational setting. We found that no matter how beautiful the Carmel area was, we always felt that the Cyprus Hideaway in Carmel Point was our favorite destination.

Cyprus Hideaway

The location of the property s perfect. It is a five minute walk to the beach and close to restaurants and shops. The house is spacious and well equipped. We had everything we needed except for an outdoor barbecue. There is a small but nice patio area outside. The house is very outdated, however. Bathrooms at very small and appliances at old. Carpet, window coverings, furniture etc are very outdated. Sheets, towels, blankets need to be replaced.

Owner's Response: I am glad you liked the location of my vacation home. Everyone does. It is spacious too and many folks have said how much they like the layout for their group. The house is not a modern-style, shiny-and-new-look, and I don’t advertise it as such; but rather leans toward the cozy cabin feel or cottage feel of older Carmel. The furnishings, all shown in the photos, are a mix of both antique and some current. Appliances are new within 2 years, and some 4 years, and I’ve had not complaints. I replace the sheets and towels regularly, and just purchased new towels not too long ago so they should be soft and cushy. I am glad you enjoyed the nearby beaches, shops and restaurants in Carmel.

Lovely, Serene and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend reunion in this lovely home. The setting is beautiful, serene and quiet. The home was built in the 1970's by an artist, and has that vibe. Lots of outdoor seating areas. We loved walking the Carmel neighborhoods to see all the unique homes. The Scenic Drive walk along the coast is beautiful!

Be prepared to walk uphill to downtown Carmel. It is easiest to walk the blocks in a "zig-zag" fashion, one east-west, one north-south, etc., rather than leaving all the uphill blocks to the end.

The owner is very gracious. The home is perfect for any group that needs three bedrooms. Each bedroom and bathroom is in a separate area and feels very private. One thing to note is that there are stairs, both inside and outside, so it may not be appropriate for anyone who is physically impaired.

Very charming

  • 5 of 5

Reminded me of our family place by the lake with lots of special memories. Our family of four had a great time at this spacious wood crafted home with lots of windows and skylights.

Distance to the ocean and Carmel is within walking distance, as well is Mission Ranch restaurant. Great location, we would definitely come back.

Carmel Hide Away filled with charm

  • 5 of 5

Hidden away on the prestigious Carmel Point, is a gem of a Carmel charmer. The rustic and spacious home on three levels evokes the charisma the Monterey Peninsula is renown.

The property is well maintained with a very helpful caretaker at your call.

The living room has a beautiful fireplace and the kitchen is great if you are cooking in. The master bedroom has high ceilings and an attached bath. There is a lovely deck ajoining the bedroom. There is a downstairs suite and another bedroom and bath on the master bedroom level.

Carmel and the Monterey Peninsula has more restaurants than you could visit in a year! Noteable, Anton and Michele and Basil. Should you want to cook in, Bruno's has a great meat department and Neilson's supplies the gourmet in your traveling party.

The owner of the property was highly responsive and returned emails promptly.

I will return to this property when visiting the Monterey Peninsula in the future.

Due to levels and stairs, I do not rent our home to families with toddler/preschool children or those under 5 or 6. I do not have safety gates on stairs. Older children love the house layout, levels and garden areas, as well as proximity to the beaches.
