we a Belgian/Dutch couple with one 12 y/o build this house from 2008-2010. We moved here mid 2010. We decided to travel whilst the house is rented out .
hayte haakma purchased this house in 2009
The best spot in the Caribbean from what we have seen.
The clearest waters, the closest to sea wildlife and diving
ECO Style with ALL luxury high end fit out
My husband, 13 year old son and I stayed at the house for a week in February. The weather was beautiful the entire week.
The house is even more beautiful than it looks in the pictures, the style as well as the decor. The bedrooms are all a good size, as are the bathrooms. The kitchen is well equiped with everything we needed and very functional. The location is great. It was close to the airport/ car rentals, grocery stores a few attractions.
The deck is very nice with the option of shade throughout the day. It is a great place to sit and watch the sunset or watch boats pass by. The pool, was a great way to cool off on hot afternoons.
Though we are not divers we did bring our own snorkel gear and were able to do so right in our back yard. There are also many more snorkeling stops right down the street, including some with a nice sandy entrance.
Hayte was very welcoming and helpful. He offered plenty of recommendations for things to do around the island. He had the fridge stocked with some basics and a few extras when we arrived.
Some suggestions for dining; El Mundo for breakfast... it was delicious!!! But try to get there early before the cruise ships let out as it get a lot busier. Pasa Bon has great pizza. We come from an area in NY state known for great pizza, and Pasa Bons was close. There is also a deliver service called Dinner In A Box that charges only $6 and has a choice between many downtown restaurants.
Activity recommendation; Washington Slagbaai National Park was awesome. The drive was crazy at times and a four wheel drive is mandatory, but the sights made it work it. Also interesting and right down the road were the salt mines with the pink lakes the slave huts.
If we were to come back to Bonaire again in the future, we would definitely stay here again! Thank you to Hayte for being a wonderful host and having an amazing property!
Awesome house on a quiet beach. Everything you need is right there...beautiful beach, private plunge pool, gorgeous deck, full kitchen and outdoor grilling. You may not want to leave the villa at all, but if you do, you are only minutes away from shopping, beaches, dive sites and restaurants. Speaking of restaurants; we highly recommend Restaurant At Sea in Kralendijk.
Thank you Hayte for your hospitality! We hope to return again soon!
We had a great stay at the Eco Beach House during 2 weeks in January 2016. The location is amazing, with just a few meters to the Caribbean Sea. The capital Kralendijk and sandy beaches are just a few kilometers away and you can find snorkel and dive sites just outside the house.
The beautiful house is very well equipped (incl a good internet connection) and a wonderful place to both stay at during lazy days and to return to after excursions on the island. We felt instantly at home and felt really sad when we had to leave.
The landlord made us feel welcome already at the airport. Throughout our stay he was only a phone call away if we had any questions and he stopped by regularly to make sure that everything was in order.
The house is absolutely gorgeous - pictures alone do not give it justice! We were group of three younger couples, and the house worked out really well for us. Each couple got their own bedroom and bathroom which was perfect. The master bedroom is much bigger than the other bedrooms, but that was not a problem for us. The views from the deck are breathtaking. We felt so lucky to look out over the ocean over a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the sunset while eating dinner outside. It really can't be beat!
Hayte was extremely welcoming. He picked us up at the airport, provided us with some groceries upon arrival, gave great recommendations for the island, and was very responsive whenever we contacted him.
We are all divers and took full advantage of the house's location. It's located right at the Punt Vierkant dive site - just wade into the water and it's a short swim out (shorter from the house than it is to the public!). We didn't swim to the Hilma Hooker, instead we opted to take the 30 second drive down the road.. We were able get there early to beat the rush and essentially had the ship to ourselves! There are two large tubs at the house to use for rinsing gear and an area along the side of the house to let it dry.
It was truly a remarkable vacation and we would return in a heartbeat!
"Awesome" by Anonymous says it all and we would like to concur with her comments as we were probably the next couple to rent his place in June.
Hayte is an excellent host and his son was an excellent problem solver as we tried to hook up our electronic gear to his network and TV. Any fear of renting directly from a homeowner proved unwarranted and the family hospitality was outstanding. Everything needed for a week's stay but the groceries were available when we arrived. The bottle of bubbly in the refrigerator was especially a nice touch - touche!
My wife and I are dedicated divers and have been coming to Bonaire since 1992 so beach access was our priority; and the oceanfront villa, with a constant cool breeze passing through the house, was the icing on the cake.
Some additional recommendations for food: Best Pizza in town? Go see Joe at Pasa Bon Pizza, otherwise known as Stoplight Pizza. Ask to sit by the table next to the frogs ...
Best steak in town? There are several but stop by Mona Lisa's with a reservation (they're closed on weekends).
Best Italian? And one heck of a wine cellar is Cappricco's. I'm addicted to their Lasagne.
Would we rent again from Hayte? In a heartbeat.
Take care Hayte, until next year ...
From the meet and greet to the end of this vacation was wonderful! The house was absolutely in great design and was extremely clean! Location was perfect, not to far from anything. When we arrived ,we were greeted by Hayte, the owner who picked us up at the airport in our convertible jeep, that we used for the week ,which was fun to drive all over the island in. The house was very well equipped with everything that you could possibly need . Also Hayte had snacks and beer , wine , coffee, teas, and water in the refrigerator when we arrived to start you off with. The drinking water was great ,filtered , we drink a lot of water , so that was well appreciated. Had a lot of other essentials that you would need, seasonings, plastic wrap, aluminum paper, shampoos, bug sprays, pretty much everything you could think of. The pool was a great added bonus ,as we spend a lot of time in it and at the house .He also gave us a cell phone to use while we were there ,which came in handy to make reservations for dinners, (which you need) and any problems that could have come up,
He was quick to respond. It was just so nice and relaxing we hardly left the house except to do short snorkeling trips and swimming at Bachelor Beach, which was really nice and close, only 4 minutes up the road. Mostly a divers paradise , but wonderful snorkeling also. We drove around the lower part of the island and saw the salt flats ,(very interesting) and then around up to where they do the kite surfing, (pretty cool to see), then up to Soroban beach. The house was really very close to everything. Oh can't forget the donkeys roaming freely all over the island ,really becareful at night ,as they pop up out of nowhere! Every morning was exciting getting up and looking out at the beautiful view of the sea and having breakfast out on the deck. Then go in the pool and continue looking out at the sea view, as the pool is practically on the beach. The restaurants were all fantastic ,ran out of nights to try other restaurants, but definitely go to At Sea, 4 Seasons, Ingredience, It rains fishes, Rum Runners Cappricco's, La Balandra, and ran out of time for the Patagonia for a great steak. Eddy's bar and grill was pretty good also ,they had a guy on the guitar that play some real good music with requests. Overall the trip was by far one of my favorites and the house , we do a lot of homeaway trips for the last 7 years and this house was wonderful! Thank you Hayte for everything!Hope to see you again!
Ocean life in front of your private beach. Dolphins, Barracuda, Lobster, Rays, Turtles, coral reefs. Zen type style home. A great getaway, 4 km from the airport, 5 km from town. Very quiet area. Very competative price for location and house.
