Escape To Tranquility

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, 4 Sleeps

Lovely simple rustic cottage way up in the central mountains of coffee country Puerto Rico that is available for short term rentals. It has an incredible panoramic view all the way to the Caribbean. Two bedrooms, one bath. Fully equipped kitchen and huge balcony. Relax on a hammock on the balcony and try to discern where the blue sky ends and the sea begins! You can really see the stars at night and the twinkling lights of Yauco in the distance. If you are looking for a 5-star hotel, we are not a good match, but if you prefer a 5 billion star stay, just step onto the balcony at night.

Not what expected

The caretaker was not reachable and never came to the property. The house was dirty. After one horrendous night, I left. Not recommendable for female traveling alone. The view of the mountain was breathtaking.

Owner's Response: We have had all fabulous guests who left us great reviews with all the agencies we list with. This guest had some issues. She texted early on how she loved the property but when she became afraid of being alone, she panicked and called everyone. My brother was in touch instantly. I telephone the next door neighbor, also a single female, who assured me that there were no strangers or prowlers in the area. We have never had such an issue in 5 years. The caretaker advised he had cleaned the property just prior to this guest arriving and that was never raised as an issue until she realized she could not adjust to the solitude and left early. The caretaker -who has always been reliable and received a lot of praise from our other guests, stopped in early the morning after she checked in and advised the guest had not left it clean. This guest was not a good match. Our listing clearly states we are a rural cottage, which is what most of our guests specifically seek. I am bewildered as to what we could do because this guest was afraid. Even the local police, whom she repeated called to report noises found nothing, as did the next door neighbor (very close) who assured me there was no one about. Our outstanding reviews on this and other sites speak for themselves.

Honeymooners on top of the mountain

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay! It was a picturesque view! And the perfect temperature! We loved laying in the hammock, and cooking in the kitchen. We even made friends with the puppy next door! If your looking for a calm realaxing stay, stay here!!!

A few side notes, Jane warns about the the

Mountain roads.. they are curvy and can be scary so take your time! And go to Marico! It's a small town the other way up, check out the beautiful town.. buy a map before you travel to Puerto Rico because your navigation won't work! And get lost on the mountain sides you will find the views worth it!

Beautiful View, Basic Accomodations

  • 3 of 5

The view is worth the drive up the mountain. The cabin was basic, which we expected. It had everything you needed. The reason we are not giving it higher stars is it seemed like it was cleaned a long time ago and there was an accumulation of bugs on the beds and everything smelled old and musty. The floors were quite dusty also. We have stayed in several Puerto Rican mountain homes, so we had reasonable expectations. With that being taken care of and a few minor upgrades it would be great. I'm sure it could have been a one time incidence. Even with that, we enjoyed ourselves.

Owner's Response: Yikes! We steam clean the tile floors after each guest and all bed linens and towels are professionally laundered. I have spoken to the caretaker (who incidentally our guests all adore!) about the matter. He said it was a very very rainy week and he opened the windows to air the cottage so perhaps gnats got in the screen. We have no mosquitos, thankfully, due to the elevation. This is the first such complaint, so rest assured we will be on top of it to assure it never occurs. We list on several sites and always receive excellent reviews, so we are genuinely sorry for any inconvenience. This guest left the cottage in acceptable shape and will hopefully give us another chance. We love our guests! We have quite a few repeat guests who have become good friends.

Breezy MountainTop Retreat -Quiet-Simple-Pastoral

  • 5 of 5

Airy Country Home refreshes the body and soul even on warmer days.

Wake-up to enjoy local Yauco Coffee from Hammocks on the Large balcony.

The cool nights with the clear star-canopied sky above invites sweaters.

We loved the relaxed pace and views this home provided our 2 week stay.

Enjoy life at Cloud Base overlooking the Yauco Valley and Caribbean beyond.

Beautiful 20 minute Thrill-Ride down Twisty Mountain roads for Shopping.

Hopefully coming back next year BUT definitely need to book ahead of time.

Stayed at a stately 5-Star Home later on our vacation - Nice - BUT...

THIS is the PLACE we always tell our friends about.

I could retire in peace in "Escape to Tranquility"- Incredible Property, Jane.

Thanks for a memorable time in our lives.

(Cautionary)- Jane MacElhenney the Owner is correct about "Rustic".

Cell Phone service is 0-1 Bars within one mile from house and the washing machine was inoperative- BUT the Caretaker Adrian said Owner will be addressing internet for WiFi phone and washer for future rentals.

Escape To Tranquility is amazing! The home is exceptionally clean and everything listed on the website was provided for. It is a short hike to get to, but nothing too crazy - I was able to make the drive down and back (even at night) fairly easily after exploring different regions of the island each day. The view is spectacular and despite extensively traveling around Puerto Rico during my tenure, some of my favorite experiences were simply waking up and enjoying each sunrise from the deck with a fresh cup of coffee.

Definitely recommended!
