I Have lived in Cat Island since 1996 and built this property in 2013.
This is the second house completed on my 50 acre environmental sub-division, where each lot is over one acre, called Hilltop Village.
It is a beautiful wooded hill top with panoramic views of the sea, lakes and fertile land. Literally I found my Shangri-La and would like to share it with like minded individuals.

Casa Loma is a wonderful home in a secluded and lovely location. The hosts are extraordinarily helpful, the beaches are pristine and the community is warm and welcoming. Just the spot to disconnect from it all and to recharge and refresh! The house is sited in the north end of Cat Island, which has lush surroundings and a choice of beaches on the east, north, and west sides of the island. From the house, you can enjoy panoramic views of the beautiful landscape with the sea and neighboring islands in the background. Nick and Manette Cripps are delightful hosts providing just enough support and guidance to truly experience the island as a local. Nick picked us up at the airport, made his car available to us as needed, booked restaurant reservations and provided us with crucial tips for exploring the island. Few people know it as well as he does and he seems to know everyone on the island. There is a beach just a ten minute walk from the house, which is one of the most beautiful we have seen in the Caribbean. It is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and long walks. During our week on the island, we did not see a single person on the beach. We explored other nearby beaches, but felt little need to leave the one on the property. The house has a full kitchen and groceries are nearby. We ate several dinners and lunches at Shanna's Cove, just a few minutes away. The food and the ambience were always fantastic. We had a great week and would highly recommend this house and Cat Island - in fact, we look forward to coming again soon!
Stayed here for about two weeks in November of 2016. We had a terrific time. Nick (the owner) took extra care to make sure our girls and we were comfortable and took us around to local beaches and spots. Even taught our girls how to snorkel! We loved our stay; the place is very comfortable with amazing views and a full kitchen that saved us a bundle in restaurant bills. It's a 10 minute walk to an exclusive beach on the north side that is perfect for daydreaming on the flour-like white sand; another 20 minute walk or so to Shannas Cove for their outstanding greek pizza and breakfasts. We felt right at home and felt like this place was an outstanding value. I think this was definitely one of our best vacations we've ever had, I can't remember ever feeling this calm and peaceful during a family trip!
Note for the first time traveler: you may want to bring your own snorkel gear (although Nick has some), and ship over some groceries including good coffee as the local stores don't have it. Learn to make your own pina coladas and fruit punch drinks; it is a little surprising they don't have more fruits and veggies available fresh from the island.
Cat Island is a wonderful place to really get away from it all and relax; we bonded as a family and felt safe and secure, and came home completely satisfied. Highly recommended!
This rental exceeded expections with a spectacular location, extraordinarily helpful hosts, glorious beaches within walking distance, and an impeccable house.
LOCATION: This house is sited in the northern part of Cat Island, which is more interesting than some of the other areas, featuring hills, lakes, creeks, and a wide choice of beaches on the east, north, and west sides of the island. From the high observation deck, one enjoys a spectacular, almost 360 degree view of this beautiful, pristine and varied landscape. There is almost no need for a map: one immediately gets a sense of where one is. Some of the surrounding islands, such as Eleuthera and Little San Salvador, are also visible. Feels like a National Park, it is so unspoiled. I have never seen anything like it in the Caribbean.
THE HOSTS: Nick and Manette Cripps are the best, most thoughtful hosts one could possibly desire. So much so, that Casa Loma feels less like a rental, and more like one's own private resort. Cat Island is not commercialized, so its attractions are not immediately obvious or in some cases easily accessible, but Nick provides the perfect support. He picked us up at the airport, made his car available to us whenever he could, booked restaurant reservations and a one-day car rental, and provided us with crucial information for exploring Cat island. Few people must know it as well as he does: He's lived there for decades, seems to know everybody and everything worth knowing about it (its history, fauna, flora, whereabouts of the best secret beaches, etc). It was really wonderful to be introduced to people in the community, and begin to understand what life on the island might be like. Nick also has a great sense of humor and is a great snorkeling guide!
THE BEACHES: The house comes with its own private beach, which is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It unfurls almost as far as the eye can see, with not a single structure, lots of coral for beach snorkeling, and patches of pink sand. There are at least 4 other beaches in the near vicinity, all different from each other, and all amazing.
THE COMMUNITY: The house is on Nick's wooded hilltop property, but one can walk to the elegant, small Shanna's Cove Resort, which serves what must be the best food for miles. Tail Wind's resort is there as well, so the house feels secluded but not isolated.
THE HOUSE: New, high quality construction, and SOLAR!
All in all, a most memorable experience!
This was the best beach vacation we have ever had as a family, because of many aspects of the rental property: the totally private beach, the secluded hill top property, the large comfortable home, and the helpful hospitality of the owners. Nick Cripps' description of the property is accurate and honest, and everything was even better than we had anticipated.
First, the beach and water are beautiful, with no homes or structures in sight for miles in each direction. On the beach, we never saw other people at all during our two week stay! The path from the house to the beach is a 10 minute comfortable walk on a wide stony path through brush and trees. You can also take the car down this path, if you prefer, but we enjoyed the quiet, natural walk. We snorkeled with Nick and on our own from this private paradise.
Next, the secluded property is unique: Set high on a hill, and surrounded by many wooded acres with amazing views of the ocean and inland lakes. The breezes on this hill top setting were refreshing, especially on days when the beach breezes were lighter. The home itself was very large and perfectly clean, wonderfully cool and ventilated by screened breezes. There is a stairway inside the house at one end that leads to a roof top lookout where the ocean and bays can be seen in every direction. The house was well stocked with everything we needed; we lacked nothing. Finally, another 5-star feature of this rental is the owner family, Nick & Manette Cripps. They were welcoming, generous, and helpful throughout our stay. Nick drove us to different beaches nearby to try, explaining the natural beauty and history of the island. He snorkeled with us on different beaches and reefs, recommended places to visit. Manette & Nick invited us into their home, we had the use of their car during our stay, and we met their friends. The whole vacation experience was relaxed, quiet, natural and fun. We have found a favorite place!
Having spent a week in Nassau, I was not sure what to expect going to Cat Island, but the reality was beyond anything I imagined, The beaches the food and the people, The 'Rake and Scrape' was and unforgettable and my kids loved every minute of it..Will I go again? As soon ans time allows. Thanks you Nick, we will see you again.
We visited Cat Island during the Easter holidays in 2014 with our 2 children - who were then 7 and 9. We'd already spent a week with friends in Nasa - who took us to some of the most amazing beaches I have ever been to. I didn't think it could get any better until we arrived on Cat Island!!
This is truly an unspoilt paradise and this property's owner Nick has completey embraced and respected the surrounding natural environment with his development. Being situated on one of the highest points on the island the property is not only blessed with amazing views but also with much welcomed cooling breezes...bliss!
Nick was an amazing host, passionate about the environment and the Island itself - he can direct you to wonderful restaurants and the most incredible, magical beaches where you're guaranteed to see no one else and have the priviledge of diving for beautiful conk shells, sand dollars and sea biscuits.
I can honestly say the whole family loved every minute of our time on Cat Island and truly hope that we'll be able to return one day! Can't recommend a visit enough - it's worth every penny! Thank you Nick :) Tanya

Be careful about saving electric by turning off the appliances not in use. This includes fans and lights when you leave a room.
Casa Loma has magnificent views of the surrounding land including the ocean, beaches, lakes and woodland. Cat Island provides many tourist pursuits with the Hermitage on Mt.Alvernia, as well as the old Deveaux Mansion, being a must for visitors. The rich history of Cat Island can be found everywhere, and great restaurants, both International and Bahamian have their own entertaining features. The caves of Cat Island are worth visiting, some going underground for miles. There are multiple Blue Holes, and great diving offshore with some fascinating drop offs for the avid diver. Bone fishing is an international sport defined here, and of course one can go deep sea fishing with one of the Locals anytime. Cat Island is a very laid back island where the people are friendly and always ready for a chat with strangers and a good story telling is in their culture. So come and unwind her or exercise to your hearts content. There are good food stores and some shops, but a visit here is more about finding yourself and enjoying miles of hidden beaches without footprints.
