Trees provide privacy from all neighbors except for the property owner who loves spending his summers in another cottage on the property. Kick back & enjoy a refreshing drink as you watch the sun set across the lake. Drift off to sleep listening to the soothing gentle sounds of Waller Creek. Early birds can watch deer at the salt lick in the birch grove across the creek. With camera & binoculars in hand stroll through the woods & along the beach enjoying the many varieties of birds & other fauna & flora. Look for shells on the beach. You can feel safe & comfortable in the shallow clear water as the gradual slope of the sandy lake bottom is only 2'-3' deep for appr. 100' out. This lake has been acclaimed by numerous conservation organizations for its high water quality. You may spot a loon or bald eagle. Explore the 38.2 mi. Inland Waterway connecting Lake Huron, Cheboygan River, Mullett Lake, Indian R., Burt Lake, Crooked R., & Crooked Lake. For fine dining dock at Hack-Ma-Tack (dinner only) or Pier 33 on the Cheboygan River. By car there are numerous dining options. This is ‘Pure Michigan’ at its best.

The remodeled cottage finished in the fall of 2011, added a carpeted upstairs with 2 bedrooms & a large bathroom with granite counter top and tub/shower. The rooms are light & airy. The kitchen was renovated at the same time providing new cabinetry, flooring & granite counter tops. In the spring of 2012, the main floor received new carpet, living room furniture & all bedrooms received new bedding. The cabin has zoned baseboard electric heat throughout. The dining room overlooks Waller Creek & woods. There is a drop-down dining table in the enclosed lakeside porch for additional seating & lake views. The living room & lakeside porch have high-beamed ceilings as does the master bedroom upstairs. Large windows throughout provide spectacular views.

You may not want to leave your haven by the lake, but for those who do venture forth, there are endless things to see & do. Enjoy an excellent performance at the historic Cheboygan Opera House 16 mi. away. Bike or hike miles & miles of groomed trails spanning northern Michigan. There are riding stables in the area. Indian River 9 mi. away is a popular site to start an exhilarating tube, raft or kayak ride down the Sturgeon River, fastest flowing river in the lower peninsula. Explore by bike sweet Victorian homes, lush gardens, fun shops, galleries, historic Fort & nice restaurants on romantic & picturesque Mackinac Island. For those wanting a more leisurely pace, hire a horse & buggy & don’t miss High Tea at the spectacular Grand Hotel. Only 30 mi. from the cottage are fast ferries connecting Mackinac City to Mackinac Island. You’ll see the breathtaking & world famous Mackinac Bridge. While in Mackinac City tour the retired Coast Guard icebreaker, ‘Mackinac’ or visit Mill Creek, a replica waterfall sawmill & zip line. Also check out Fort Michilimackinac built during the American Revolution. Enjoy a cruise on the Straits of Mackinac or SCUBA dive on shipwrecks of the Great Lakes. For a change of pace, look for that perfect piece of art or memento to take home while strolling around the charming harbor towns of Petoskey, Harbor Springs & Bay Harbor, all near each other on Lake Michigan & only 30-35 mi. from the cottage. Each have nice parks, shops, galleries & restaurants to say nothing about lovely Victorian homes with manicured lawns. See Harbor Springs from the water & learn about its grand history during a harbor tour on ‘Pointer,’ a classic historic boat docked at Stafford’s Pier Restaurant. Nearby Boyne Highlands has excellent golf courses & the famous and exciting Young America’s Dinner Theatre. A large variety of golf courses are within an hours drive. Ask us for details.

Sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all ~~ simply relax by the lake with a book you haven’t had time to read or gaze idly at the tropical colored turquoise water as it rhythmically laps against the shore. Listen to the birds singing overhead. You will find rejuvenation in the soothing powers of nature. No matter how you choose to spend your time, Wal-Mar will provide you with a lifetime of memories & a desire to return again soon.

Another great week for our family on beautiful Mullett Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was our fourth straight year in the Marshall guest cottage. It is idyllic, set back from the lake next to a small stream. We love the sandy beach and the dock for swimming. There aren't that many sandy beaches on Mullett Lake. We enjoy evening fires in the pit and like to use the grill. The kids and grandkids enjoy the paddle boats and kayaks they have there, and we usually rent a boat for a day or two. The cottage has room upstairs for one son and daughter-in-law and their two sons age 4 and 7 upstairs. My wife and I use one of the downstairs bedrooms, a second son, his wife, and infant son another. The owners and caretaker Gordon are very friendly and accommodating. We feel very fortunate to have found this lovely place in the woods, and we recommend it highly.

Great Property, Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

We (8 of us) had a great time at John and Marsha's property. The house was exactly as advertised on the site. Our girls had a great time playing in the creek that runs next to the house. We grilled on one of the two outdoor grills nightly, and even got to pick some fresh herbs from Marsha's garden for a couple of meals. The sunsets are amazing to see from the beach. We brought our boat and enjoyed it everyday. The water is crystal clear with a nice sandy bottom that adds to the fun. We did enjoy the new fire pit that John had recently installed on a couple of occasions. I would have no reservations about recommending this property to any family or friends as I am sure they would enjoy it as much as we did.

Read before renting.....

The first thing I must mention is that the cabin is immaculate and the property is breathtaking. That being said, what you can't see in the photos is the owners house less than 50 feet away. The fire ring is on his part of the property and unless the air is completely still (and keep in mind you are on a lake) there are no fires allowed. Also the boat dock mentioned cannot be used as it is full of the owners boats and jet skis. You can however use the mooring that is 100 yards out (if you don't mind swimming to and from your boat every time you use it). You almost feel as if you are under surveillance, as the owner will pop in unexpectedly and at will throughout your week. Again the cabin and its furnishings are top notch, but if you are after even a little bit of privacy beware. Also, he kept 20% of our deposit because of a water stain on a old wooden trunk allegedly left by a wet bathing suit. Really?? We love Mullett Lake and its surroundings and plan on returning...... Just not here!

Owner's Response: In the many years that we have rented this cabin this is the only negative review that we have ever recieved. It is also the only time we have retained a part of the security deposit. Please feel free to ask us any questions which you may have about this review.
