About Lisa Freeman

We find the water here as good as it gets after traveling extensively through U.S. Tidewater area has many activities to keep our interest. Norfolk also has great museums and some interesting architecture downtown and loads of unique restaurants. Bay is huge and right around the corner is the oceanfront. Largest naval Base makes for some great site seeing too. There is always something going on outside to watch on the water here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is the best house we have rented at a beach. Well equipped, clean and the beach was great for the kids. Everyone loved it. It is semi handicapped friendly with the chair lift for my grandmother. She enjoyed her time with the grandkids and there was space to spread out.

Attitude

  • 1 of 5

You know the phrase "BUYER Beware"? Well, "RENTER Beware". Attitude, attitude, attitude!!!!!!!

I had this long laundry list of horrible thinks to identity about Lisa. However, I have decided to be brief. I will NOT let her bring my family down by her self-righteousness.

I would reconsider renting her properties in- lieu- of others if you plan on dealing with an honorable person who returns calls, text messages, and e-mails. Do not expect Lisa to return your "Deposit Check". She will tell you she torn it up, and then go on to say maybe it is in the office etc., etc. etc. Oh, and "OWNER DOES THEIR LAUNDRY TUESDAY ATER 5PM". I quote this off the label attached to the "SHARED" washer/dryer. They have a key to enter from the back of home to sneak in any time they wish. Really!!!!!!!

Good luck hunting for a great place to stay. Norfolk is an awesome place to be. Not sure you want to deal with ignorance when you are trying to relax.

If you read other reviews on Lisa you will find we were not the only deceived people.

Owner's Response: I did write void & tear up her deposit & sent a text photo, there was NO damage to the property. It was in my office and not cashed. Not certain why this would be an issue or taken as having an attitude. This guest took great offense to this. Guest was not aware we have a separate apartment on site, we don’t hide the fact, some folks just don’t read. We have multiple homes, if our presence is a concern (in our separate apartment with separate entrance)then we prefer your reserve another property. We do our laundry after 5p.m. in the shared laundry area (the only shared space) My husband met guests at time of arrival. He carried their luggage up the stair because the husband stayed had recent open heart surgery. Although I never met either guest over there 5 days stay, my husband was very courteous. We responded to all her texts & 1 email sent courteously. We realize that all guest are unique in their expectations. Their service dog that I waived the fee for was a mental health certificate she sent. Please do read other reviews and there is a comment book in the house that is filled with positive comments from happy guest. Also I think her request to come meet her puppy via text 7 times, I did politely decline was taken as an insult, when in fact I am just a busy property owner that can't meet each guest.

Perfect for family gatherings!

  • 5 of 5

As a real estate broker I always stay in vacation rentals when we travel. This home, by far, was the best we've ever experienced. The home was open floor plan. The living area was big rooms and open so all family members could be together. Cooking, visiting, watching kids, men watching sports. The living room opens with sliders on to the view deck. Property is located right on the bay. Kids fed the birds and ducks. Elders enjoyed the view. All bedrooms were large sq footage, beds comfortable and clean. Great for extended family, everyone had their own space. We were there for my Grandmother's 100th birthday. The home felt like it was our home. Centrally located.Close to airports, shopping and beaches. The owners were awesome, hands on. Communication all times. When we visit our family in Virginia, Delaware and Maryland we will definitely stay there again!

Such a great house and owners

  • 5 of 5

The photos really don't do justice to the size of the house or the deck. The house is very large and the deck is SO close to the water with an unobstructed view.

I have rented many houses and this is the first time the Owner greeted us when we arrived. It was so helpful because we spent the entire day traveling, we were really tired and hungry. Charlie showed us how (we live in Northern Nevad) the locks worked and gave us a suggestion for a place to eat that was very close (.03 miles) to the house, good food, and entertainment. We had everything we needed to be comfortable, including the beds!

terrible experience

  • 1 of 5

I’ve rented vacation home several times before without any problem or complaint. This time I have to write a review because of terrible experience that I have had with the owner of this rental property.

Before check-in day: the whole process is confusing and inconvenient. I’ve booked exactly 2 months and 1 week ahead, and made the 1st and 2nd payment on time as directed. However, Home away website keeps sending message that I haven’t made the 1st payment while my bank account shows money withdrawal. I contact her and at this time she hits button on website to admit that she received 1st payment. A month later, she calls me and asks about 2nd payment. I send her a screen snap shot of my bank account statement that she had received my check and cashed it out already. About a week before check in day, she calls me about signed agreement which I have no clue because she’s never sent it to me. Couple days before check in day, she contacts me again about missing guests’ name list which I already listed in the agreement. In the meantime, she repeats 3 times in agreement, in email, and in text message that no event or party in her house. When I let her know it’s annoyed, then her excuse is she’s afraid of college kids who host a party since I didn’t tell her purpose of renting. Excuse me, if you need to know, you may ask me but I don’t see any policy or requirement that I have to explain my purpose to rent the house.

Check in day: In agreement, parking is limited, max 5 cars. When we come there, 2 cars and 1 small RV already parked in parking. Next day, they park one more car so now her 3 cars and 1 small RV park in parking. Really? The most creepy and annoying issue is after they come back, they stay in the house’s basement all the time. Who does that? You can drive by to check but staying underneath to watch tenant is not acceptable. We rent the house because we want privacy and even we don’t do anything wrong but have feeling someone watching us is not comfortable at all.

For Lisa, I have 2 suggestions for you: 1st, you should hire an agent who can help you with paperwork to avoid confusing for tenant and yourself. 2nd, don’t accept booking request if you don’t trust them. You must let tenant know that you will stay in the basement if they're fine with it before booking with you. You cannot send them a short message after they check in to let them know that you’re staying underneath. They have no choice. It's not how to run a business.

Owner's Response: This home has 8 parking spots, 4 to 5 always reserved for our guests. Guest entered 2 separate reservation request on the web site. This created a lot of confusion and was problematic logging payments for her multiple reservations. The property overview "owner has space on site, may or may not be present" I think the wedding occupied her thoughts and some things were overlooked, such as reading the rental agreement sent and reading the property overview entirely. The agreement is quite clear and other guests have not struggled with these unique issues that Anne had while planning her wedding at the rental (this is a no event property), We hope our future quest come as a family to enjoy their quality time together.
