ABOUT US: .Our property is situated in the village of Baddeck along the Baddeck Bay. We are a 2.3 mile walk/drive/bike/swim to the center of the village. Which allows one to partake of the village`s many amenities yet escape from it`s summer bustle. Our property offers a central location for all adventures Cape Breton Island has to offer within easy access by foot or car. We are located on the World Famous Cabot Trail. The cottage has a simple bright and airy feel at a easy budget. The full kitchen allows even the most budget minded to save hundreds in restaurant costs yet in a quaint ,quiet setting. Our property is a historic one, overlooking the estate of Alexander Graham Bell and the bay his historic flight took place on. Our property was owned by his assistant, companion (McCurdy) and one of the founders of the National Geographic Society (George Kennan). Other deeded owners were Samual Cunard of the steamship fame. The Myers of the Bell family ,they liked it here I expect you will too
My husband and I stayed in BayCroft Cottage for a week. The photos on VRBO are mostly accurate (Since they were taken, a hot tub replaced two of the Adirondack chairs on the deck. And the dining table we had seated 4.). The view of the water is good and as pictured.
This cottage was plenty roomy for us. Sleep quality was excellent as the location is very quiet and the mattress on the larger bed is very good. The shower was nice, too.
There is nothing fancy about this cottage at all. Everything is clean and functional, but totally low-end in terms of cost, e.g. Linoleum, countertops, refrigerator, microwave. In fact the microwave is so low-end that it is only 550 watts, which makes it only marginally useful.
The one big deficit in this cottage is the lack of decent pots and pans and other kitchen supplies. There were two frying pans -- one very small and one that was truly wrecked and terminally greasy. Only two real mugs. No pot holders. Really, I rated this property as a "4" rather than a "5" based primarily on the furnishing of the kitchen. Beware if it is your intention to cook real meals in this kitchen.
You should also know that the lake access at the bottom of the driveway (and across the road) does not include a dock. You simply have to scramble over some small boulders to get to the water.
BayCroft Cottage is located on Cape Breton Island 2 miles east of the village of Baddeck on the Cabot Trail. The Island is known as the Celtic Heart of Canada. Our property in particular is located so travel to any and many venues offered by our island are from walking distance to a easy day trip from your front door. The full kitchen and home base scenario offers visitors ease and savings due to the fact that avoiding restaurant costs and frequent moving through out the island are eliminated. We are a family operation so requests are dealt with quickly and efficiently . This is a relative new building (15yrs) . Clean and fresh ,private ,at your own speed.New this year is a private Hot Tub on the deck for refreshing/calming end to the daily adventures
