Situated across a secluded street from one of Galveston's majestic private estates. This charming cottage has a perfect unobstructed view of the flamboyant octagonal Garten Verein and it's grounds. The swing located on the sizable front porch is the ideal location to take in the festivities. Located within easy walking distance to the beach, Pleasure Pier, and a variety of wonderful restaurants. The perfect spot to launch a bicycle tour of the island. Secure off street parking is available the at rear of the home. This cottage would a perfect location for a wedding party to prepare for the big day!
During the wedding reception held at the Garten Verein of my niece, my son and daughter noticed an over grown and abandoned home immediately adjacent to the park. Knowing that my niece and her new husband, both having securing jobs at UTMB upon graduating from A&M Galveston, had been unsuccessful in finding a home that they could afford on the island, Paul Parker, my son and a realtor, began searching for the owners of the home.
Three months later he was able to contact the owners, only to find that they had sold the house to the Galveston Historical Foundation (GHF)a few weeks before. He contacted the GHF, and my niece and her husband were able to purchase the house from the GHF. They then set about renovating their new home, and starting their family. A few years later, they were accepted to medical school, and I purchased the home from them for to serve as my weekend get away.
My friends and family used the home extensively, until Ike devastated the island. It was during this period, that I realized that the island was an under valued jewel. The house on the corner became available, and my Son purchased it. A few years later, the house next door went up for sale, and I purchased it! We have been, happily renovating all three homes since.
I am sure that you will find the home and the island as charming an wonderful as do I!
The home, being in the center of the city, is less than five minutes by car from anywhere you want to be, and the sea breeze blows across Kempner Park providing a friendly place to relax.
It is close enough to the ocean that you can hear the waves crashing on the shore, but far enough away to minimize the constant influx of sand into the living space. The parade of weekend weddings held at the Garten Verein, serve as a a constant reminder that life will bring you a new beginning each and every day.
Stay in this home once, and I know that you will become a repeat guest!

Things to do. Hope to come again..
We have stayed at both of Miss Becky's (as my grandson calls her) cottages multiple times. These are the most clean, most cute and most comfortable cottages around!
We always enjoy sitting on the porches and the views into the park next door.
The beds and linens are all high quality and extremely comfortable. The a/c always works well. Everything needed for a perfect stay is always provided and the owner is the sweetest person you'll ever meet.
This house has two living areas with an excellent space for enjoying the company of your family. A fenced yard with a grill and table make it easy to cook meals outside, as well as a very well appointed kitchen.
Both homes are always exceptionally clean.
I feel comfortable sharing these homes with my friends and family, anytime! (although I hate to give up my secret spot).
We recently rented both homes for our annual Ladies' Trip and all the ladies loved the homes. The location is perfect. The décor and landscaping are beautiful as well. I can't say enough good things about both places:)
Stayed here after booking the sister property nextdoor which had a bug problem. Owner would not give refund, but offered this property instead. Property appeared fine at first inspection, but later in the evening of the first night, we were surprised by large roach. This continued everyday our entire stay, despite our putting out 8 roach traps and spraying with eco-friendly bug spray. Also had ants. My sister dubbed it the Pineapple "Bug"alow!
My daughter could not have been happier with my choice of renting your houses for her wedding party! Everything was completely as described and the entire process could not have been easier. Thank you for helping to make her wedding a success!
We would recommend this property to anyone. It is a great house - really well restored, maintained (spotless throughout), and furnished in a great location. Across the street from a historic Galveston mansion and next to a park and on a street with only 5 houses. We are a family of five with 3 kids ranging in age from mid-teens to early 20's. Walking distance to the seawall and beach although it is a long walk. Was a great location and easy to get anywhere in Galveston. Floor plan allowed us to get together when we wanted but also allowed everyone to spread out. The front porch swing and other seating was a family favorite with nicely landscaped yard for a view. Very comfortable beds with quality linens and towels. 2 of the 3 bedrooms had very nice views of the park with large windows. Owner was very responsive and helpful and even gave us a heads up to an unadvertised fireworks display on the beach. Would also recommend Galveston Island State Park for beaching (clean restrooms and showers). It is about 20 minutes up the island and was not crowded at all. Other things to do that we enjoyed was the tour of the clipper ship Elissa and Seaport Museum, Dolphin tour, Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, The Strand. Good places to eat were the Sunflower Bakery and Cafe for breakfast or brunch, Olympia for lunch (next to the Ocean Star Rig), our Bay fishing trip was booked through galvestonfishingchartercompanyDOTcom. We caught some nice trout and sheepshead and cooked them at the house (kitchen is well equipped). One person opted out of the fishing trip and spent time wandering around The Strand, seeing the Galveston Hurricane and Jean Laffite movie and looking at the historical exhibits at the Rosenberg Library.
We also stopped by NASA which has expanded the museum with a 747 with a Space shuttle on top for transport that you can tour inside of both.
Looking forward to coming back!
We enjoyed our stay very much. Loved the quiet little 1/2 street & location next to the park. Porch swing was a favorite. Air conditioner worked great !
This was our first experience wit VRBO and we were pleased.
