We stayed at Ivers place for the Two Harbors rollerblade marathon. It was the perfect place to stay as far as location and peacefulness. Duluth is only about 20 mins away and Ivers place is very close to down town two harbors. The house is very clean, has an extremely big lot with a bonfire pit, and even has a full kitchen for all our cooking needs, including grill. It was also important that we stay someplace were we were able to get a good nights sleep before the race. On our way we did see how close the railroad tracks were to the house but we had no problems sleeping. I don’t even remember hearing one train go by. We stayed Fri-Sun. Since we all had to work before our drive to the house we arrived after 7pm. The owners of the house were very accommodating and helpful with our late arrival. It worked out perfectly!
It was very nice to be able to get up in the morning and do our traditional things like making coffee, eating breakfast, watching a little TV, and even sitting outside on the chair swing. The house was very cute and homey with lots of decorations. The bonfire pit was one of our favorites. We made a pretty big fire and order pizza (yes they were able to deliver to the house). We could have sat by the fire all night; it was so peaceful and quiet.
We will definitely be staying there again next year!
We stayed at Ivers Place for 7 weeks and it was perfect for our needs. The house was comfortable and homey. The beds were great ! The area was quiet for the most part and it was nice being a little removed from the hub bub of Two Harbors. The house was very clean and well supplied with paper products and even laundry soap. The owners have done a nice job of trying to keep the integrity of the old farmhouse. they also were extremely helpful and friendly. The surrounding area has a ton to offer in regards to activities. The Breakwater is great, the hiking trails by the water and in the woods were one of our daily activities. The local restaurants are good and the Irish Pub has numerous out of the ordinary beers on tap. Staying here provided easy access to both Lake Superior and the BWCA as well as the North Shore. Duluth is only 20 miles which is an easy drive. The golf course was in good shape and has good food in the grill. It seemed like there was always a festival of some sort in Two Harbors as well as the nearby areas. The Community Band Thursday night concerts and Farmers Market ( on Saturday Mornings ) were a nice touch. The locals were friendly and overall it was a great place to be to have cool weather and lots of sunshine. Ivers Place would be great for a family vacation, or couples get away. We will certainly try to return.
Went up to the North Shore with our 2 year old to get away from the Twin Cities. The house is nice, and the outdoor space is spectacular. It's on a lovely, spacious lot, with tons of space to relax outside. The inside space is quite nice, very clean, and has all the amenities. The owners are friendly, and very helpful.
We gave this 2 stars because there is a VERY LOUD train that goes by the property several times each day, and 1-3 times per night. There is no possibility of sleeping through this folks - the house is ~100 yards from a crossing, where the trains blast their horns every time they come past. We were disappointed to have tried to come up for a quiet and relaxing long weekend, and to leave much more tired and grumpy that when we arrived. Furthermore, our toddler is an excellent sleeper, and was terrified to be woken up suddenly each night we were there. One time was tolerable, but the next night a train came through at 3 am, 4 am, and 5 am. Now our kiddo is afraid to go to sleep. It was so disruptive that we actually went home a day early, rather than stay a third night there.
There was no mention on the VRBO property listing regarding this issue, or in our communications with the owner, which seemed misleading. When we contacted the property owner about our experience, he suggested that all their clients love it. The trains may not be an issue at other times of year, but we would definitely not stay there again.
My brother and I stayed here to do some hunting in the area and were blown away by how great a place this is. When you look for a place to stay you take many things into account including price, location of the facility and what it has to offer etc. During our stay we commented to each other how perfect this place was! We were able to come back to the house, relax and watch satellite TV, cook a pizza, do brats on the grill, use the stove, microwave - it was just like being home - but nicer.
In the morning we enjoyed having the coffee maker and toaster to cook our bagels, we had a nice view in the yard of an occasional deer and even a grey fox one evening. When we compared this option to booking a motel where you have no privicy, no extras that you need - stove etc. so you are either stuck going out to eat or eating cold food all the time. Compared to other properties you can't beat the size of the house, the warm feel and the amenities.
The beds were fabulous and very comfortable and because the house has some acreage you didn't hear any neighbors! I remember the first night we stayed we were in the living room watching TV and relaxing on the couches and I said "the only thing missing is a blanket" at which point I looked over at the rocking chair and there were two blankets right there!
Like I said this place has it all and is just like being at home! Can't wait to stay again!!!!
