High Altitude Country Resort
Tucked away on a mountain at 4100' overlooking Lake Glenville just north of Cashiers N.C. is this recently constructed rustic cabin retreat with spectacular views that can accommodate 8 in comfort and privacy without "overload." The Aerie Retreat offers three formal bedrooms, a convertible couch, king or twin daybed, and 3 1/2 baths in a private wooded atmosphere with all contemporary features, utilities and electronics.
Relax in front of the two wood-burning fireplaces in comfortable rustic style but with all of the modern conveniences including DISH TV (basic), DVD, Roku, Netflix/Amazon Prime/Hulu, WiFi internet ((and back-up system), X-Box and telephone landlines. Enjoy a full complement of exercise and entertainment equipment including both adult and child sized pool tables and ping pong; air hockey; fussball; rowing machine/weights/bench and TRX straps; treadmill; outside childrens' playground; 15' covered swim spa (winterized between November and April but available over the winter at extra charge); 14' trampoline; adult and kids paddle boards; kids kayak; fishing canoe and fishing kayak; fishing equipment; toys and board games; gas and stone grills, six person outdoor deck dining set, and much more. 30 AMP exterior hook-up. Private POA dock on the lake. Numerous trout streams and lake fishing. Rent a pontoon boat at nearby Signal Ridge Marina. Sand beach just down the road on Pine Creek by the dam. Just 15 minutes to Cashiers; 25 minutes to Highlands and 45 minutes to Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This is high elevation Blue Ridge country where the temperature is routinely 15-20 degrees cooler than Atlanta, Greenville and the other lowlands. The air is clean and the neighborhood is uncrowded. Lake Glenville is the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi, family and water-sport friendly. Photos cannot do justice to the beautiful mountain views. Nearby Cashiers has very good restaurants and shops and a modern Ingles supermarket. If you get Big Box fever, the Franklin Walmart is only 30 minutes down the mountain; if upscale shopping is your bag, the Highlands emporiums are less than half an hour. This is everything a high mountain retreat should be. And more.
The Blue Ridge Aerie Retreat is not a 'business' rental or a mountain party crash pad, but our home in the mountains that we occasionally rent for family reunions or retreats. Accordingly, any inquiries about availability should include some information about the proposed booking party, numbers and ages of guests and purpose of visit.
A Rental Agreement must be signed before arrival.
Absolutely no smoking inside the Retreat. Well-behave pets considered on a case by case basis.
Proposed guests should also be aware of the obvious fact that this is the mountains, the woods and the country and inhabited by the usual N.C. array of animals, rodents, birds, bees, snakes and bugs in the great outdoors, but not in the Aerie Retreat. A sunning copperhead was once spotted on the property ( without adverse result). The occasional bear shows up along with many foxes. Attention should be paid to small children at all times and caution exercised outdoors respecting the local fauna and on the steeper terrain and somewhat irregular sets of exterior stairs.
Reasonable advance notice is generally required because of the cleaning and preparation logistics.
Finally, please be sensitive to the fact that replacing and repairing things in the mountains is a fairly major production in almost every respect, not the least of which is the cost. As noted above, this is not a business rental that comes with two rolls of TP, one roll of paper towels, cheap tableware and one dishwasher tab. It is our home and comes with everything you would expect to have in a home. All you need to bring are your edible groceries and personal effects. As I do not have a property manager, guests are expected to attend to the minor maintainance issues of a home such as replacing burned out bulbs, batteries and the like. I am virtually always available by phone, text or email to answer questions or to deal with major issues. As a general rule, I usually drive to the Retreat to inspect it prior to your arrival and I can pre-stock your groceries at no extra charge other than their actual cost.

About Peter Bassett
Born in Argentina, grew up in Switzerland and Atlanta resident since 1975; retired attorney; single dad of grown and young children; professional mediator of commercial disputes. I split my time between my circa 1900 'shotgun' house here in Atlanta and a cabin in the North Carolina mountains. I enjoy motorcycling and solo traveling almost anywhere - with particular focus on on the old 'Eastern Bloc'; hiking and alternative lodging. I hope to provide the same kind of experience and amenities in the Aerie Retreat that I appreciate when traveling.

What a treat!!
We LOVED our stay at the Aerie retreat! The layout of the house is perfect for a mountain getaway with family. We took advantage of all of the amenities the house had to offer. Peter was a fantastic host and made us feel welcome from the minute we booked our stay. He was very accessible throughout our stay and just went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect! Whether you want to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening fire in the outdoor fireplace that screened in porch has wonderful views that can’t be beat. It’s also far enough away to enjoy the serenity but close enough to all of the surrounsing towns to venture out for some good eats, hiking, and shopping. I hope we will be able to come back soon to enjoy another mountain getaway! Highly recommend this property!!
Perfect vacation rental with a wonderful owner and amazing views!
Our stay at the Aerie Retreat was everything we could have hoped for. My only complaint was that we ever had to leave this place! Peter anticipated every need or question a guest could have, and was in contact throughout our stay. The home was stocked with everything we could have needed. The house was clean, thoughtfully laid out with great decor, and had the most amazing views. We especially loved the area it was located in and the privacy of the neighborhood. I've stayed in 20+ rentals over the last few years, and this is by far the best. Thank you for a perfect trip!
The property presented itself as was viewed on vrbo. There were no surprises. It was "a very comfortable home". It provided everything it noted and more.
Great place with privacy and a wonderful view
Large, well maintained and equipped home with lots of room and amenities. My favorite spot was the screened in porch with its wonderful long range view of the mountains and the lake in the foreground. Lovely.
Great spot for family vacation
This house is amazing! Great views, plenty of room to spread out, games, giant hot tub, fires in the screened in room, modern amenities. Great location near lake glenville, cashiers, highlands. Peter was very responsive to our needs. We had an issue with the hot tub which he handled quickly and satisfactorily. We highly recommend this property and would rent again.
