About Steven Englander or Fougère Robertson

My wife, Fougère, and I have stayed at vacation rental homes around the world: Montreal, Boston, Miami Beach, New Orleans, Amsterdam, Bruges, Granada, Seville, Oaxaca and more. Our travel blog is at www.searchingforbeauty.net.

We’ve lived in San Francisco and Manhattan, LA’s Laurel Canyon, on the bluffs overlooking New York’s Hudson River, in Boulder, in the Bay area’s Marin County and the Sierra foothills of California – and San Diego is certainly one of the best! We appreciate its canyons, mountains, beaches and unbeatable climate.

A former French teacher, Fougère is a computer consultant who designs FileMaker Pro databases and Excel spreadsheets, while I’m a writer and editor who works mainly in advertising, marketing, consumer, tech and biotech. We also speak a little Spanish. We like hiking, swimming, Tai Chi and Yoga; cooking and craft beers; movies and theater; art and architecture; and reading – both fiction and nonfiction. In the next few years, we look forward to staying in vacation rental homes in London, Rome, Dublin, Berlin, Iceland and Japan.

As hosts, Steven and I are friendly, helpful and conscientious. As guests, we are quiet, clean, respectful and appreciate the same in return from our hosts, with cleanliness being important. We always enjoy getting to know our hosts.

Why Steven Englander or Fougère Robertson chose San Diego

Centrally located, our comfortable and spacious house is in one of San Diego's coolest, friendliest and most desirable neighborhoods, with easy access to restaurants, gastropubs, Balboa Park, museums, sports facilities, downtown and major highways.

What makes this house unique

We purchased our house because of the private backyard, garden, cool breezes, large living room and beautiful condition from the recent renovation, with air conditioning, a modern kitchen, luxurious sheets and off-street parking.

Great vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at North Park Beauty! The property is well maintained and clean. We appreciated the small touches from the owners such as providing some grocery items, laundry detergent, and a new sponge for us to wash the dishes. We traveled with two young children and they had fun playing in the well kept backyard. The house is very close to the zoo and Balboa Park, as well as some restaurants and grocery stores. The street was quiet too! Hopefully we will have another chance to stay here again sometime!

Owner's Response: If you asked me which generation of Stephanie's 3-generation family is the best, I'd be hard-pressed to answer. I'd have to say it's a 3-way dead heat. They're all terrific!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The North Park Beauty was spacious, clean, and stocked with all the essentials. We spent a good amount of time enjoying the backyard. After a long day exploring it was the perfect place to come home to. Thank you, Steven!

An interior that's refreshing to one's taste

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful stay, at a wonderful place, whose owners cared about all the details such as Kleenex brand tissue that's gentle on our face. 5 shiny stars to this magnificent North Park place!

Why would you ever stay at a hotel again?

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at 2pm and Steven was there to great us. The house was clean, windows were open and the temperature was perfect. He realized we had 4 kids that just wanted to play after our flight and gave us a brief but precise briefing on all the amenities of this wonderful rental.

Each room was tastefully decorated, but nothing was over the top. Though the house is around 1,300 sqft, the layout was perfect and our 4 kids enjoyed running around.

There were tons of pillows and towels, as well as all the additional things we might need for coffee, snacks, etc... It was perfect! Not to mention the outdoor shower which was perfect in the evenings when the weather dropped.

Steven was always available for questions about the area, where to eat, get drinks, etc...

Without a doubt, we will be staying at this wonderful home when visiting San Diego again!!!

Our hosts thought of all the details

  • 5 of 5

North Park Beauty is located in a safe and family orientated neighbourhood. The home inside is bigger in person that it appears in photos. The home has been updated with new appliances, countertops, flooring, etc, and is clean and contemporary...money has been spent here and it shows. What impressed our family the most is the attention to details such as extra toiletries in the washrooms (spare toothbrushes, make up remover, bubble bath for the kids), the kitchen was well stocked with condiments and basics, and the backyard had a picnic and lounge area. Steven is very quick and responsive to any messages or inquires we had. Thanks for the great stay!

North Park

  • 5 of 5

This is a large and very nice home. The Altadena in North Park is one of San Diego's Older neighborhoods. Neighborhood homes are well cared for and the neighborhood is very quiet. We were within walking distance of a small market, a local coffee shop and restaurants. Also, Balboa Park, with its many, activities is no more than a mile away and easy to get to by foot or car. This house is very well equipped and well cared for and includes a nice backyard. That is safe for young children. The master bedroom has a walk-in shower and would be usable by someone with limited mobility. The layout of the house allows for privacy and it is spacious. I've lived in San Diego, including beach areas and North Park is my preferred area.
