About Susan Pataky

Endre and I are Calgary, Canada based with a love to travel. We discovered Guanajuato in December 2012 and it was love at first sight. The culture, colours, vibrancy and driving throughout the tunnels sealed the deal. Two months later we returned to look for property as an 'exit strategy' and found Carrizo 2. Endre is a project manager and designed the renovation of this four story older building. Translating the drawings into Spanish, he then brought on an exceptional architect from Leon and the two worked tirelessly on this project. Spending about a 1/3rd of each month in Guanajuato, together they sourced all the materials purchased locally with the exception of some items brought down from Ikea.

You will notice the porcelain tiles from Italy, custom made doors and cabinetry, marble sinks and pillow top beds.

Susan Pataky purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Susan Pataky chose Zona Centro

We both need to work remotely while away therefore each floor has individual high speed wifi. The water is heated via solar panels and all lighting is LED. Sky TV offers over a hundred channels. The highlight is the Terrace. With a rooftop garden, two dining areas and lounge seating, this is the perfect spot to relax after your day of exploring. A rooftop washroom saves a trip back to your apartment and if you need, there is a washing machine with lines to dry your clothes.

What makes this apartment unique

The pleasure of walking and discovering the callejones (narrow alleyways) gives one an understanding of neighbourhoods connected by plazas full of life and colour. Due to the geography of this small city, many homes are reachable only by dozens of steps. We sought out a home close to the street level so when your taxi dropped you off, it was only a few steps, not a hundred to to your front door.

Sitting on the rooftop terrace in the evening, the spectacular view of the city in the setting sun is a perfect spot for your bbq dinner. Head down to walk to the city centre and enjoy the estudiantinas (singing minstrels), street food vendors and outdoor patios.

Great location, safe, walkable to town, shops, wonderful rooftop bbq, convenient laundry

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week over Christmas with our two children and had a wonderful time. The apartment is safe, clean, and easy to access. The laundry facilities were handy and thanks to the dry climate, the line-dried clothes were ready in a day. It is an enjoyable, flat 25 minute walk into town with lots of distractions along the way. There were a few local Christmas markets nearby where we bought fun decorations, we shopped Hidalgo daily and enjoyed a rooftop barbecue on Christmas Day. The *only* downside was the noise. We liked the local neighborhood feel, but it is on a somewhat busy street with the noise that brings. Some good (unexpected marching bands) and bad (horns, etc.) We appreciated the courtesy ear plugs because there was a concert at the nearby amphitheatre (near the old train station) that echoed until the wee hours. Overall, a terrific experience and I'd definitely stay again. Thank you!

We had a great time in Guanajuato at Casa Terraza. Highly recommended.

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (5 people) stayed at Casa Terraza for a total of five nights and had a great time. It is at most a ten minute walk from the main plazas in Guanajuato and since it is located in a more residencial area you also get a chance to experience the real local flavor. It is very close to a roundabout where we had breakfast almost every day: rib, chorizo and adobada tacos at one stand and various gorditas at another. It is also close to Oxxo (convenience store) and Comercial Mexicana (supermarket) so if you needed anything it is easily accesible. If you need a taxi to the center of town it is between $40 and $50 pesos.

We had an issue the first day with hot water but Tanya the property manager took care of it quickly and was very helpful with chek-in and check-out. Israel does local tours for Casa Terraza and we took a couple private ones with him an really enjoyed them. We recommended Israel to another family and they were very thankful for the recommendation.

The property is in very good condition, well decorated and very clean. We stayed in the "Samba" room which has two bedrooms, one bathroom, full kitchen and living room. Two of us in one room, two in another and one of our kids on the sofa-bed in the living room.

In conclusion we enjoyed the place, location and Guanajuato.

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay. Very comfortable and clean. Safe area, very secure building, about a 10 minute walk (depending on pace) to the start of the main part of the historic center. No steep hills. Everything worked perfectly including internet and the property was as advertised. Very comfortable place to stay. Owner and housekeeping provided great service. I will definitely stay at Casa Terraza in the future.
