This home was crafted by a local architect Dennis Zirbel and an extraordinary team of craftsmen builders. The interior is unique with reclaimed wood accent walls, honed and oiled black walnut flooring, and pigmented stucco on the walls. The stonework on the exterior of the house and the fireplaces is extraordinary. The styling is reminiscent of a French farmhouse, and the owner furnished the home with many antiques imported from Paris and Southern France. The kitchen is a chef's dream appointed with top of the line appliances- Viking- 6 burner range and ovens, warming drawer, trash compactor, Sub zero refrigerator with separate refrigerator draws for drinks/produce. All counter tops are limestone. One farm sink is marble, another is distressed copper. The dining table seats 10 comfortably, the breakfast table seats 6 and the large island seats 5 people. Off the breakfast nook is a cozy heated sun room furnished with comfortable couches and chairs. This is a favorite spot for reading or bird watching. The large master bathroom and bathroom is on the main level. There is a large walk in closet and master bathroom is appointed with a large Jacuzzi bathtub and steam shower. A half bathroom and desk with a computer station round out this floor. The lower level includes another den area with fireplace, wet bar, laundry/ ski / mud room, a bathroom with separate sink area (trough sink suits 3 at one time), and two bedrooms that sleep 8 people comfortably. One room has two bunk beds (twins), the other bedroom has one bunk bed (twins) with a trundle (twin) and a separate twin bed. The entire home is heated with radiant heat- an efficient non drying method. During the winter, snow plowing is included.
My family moved out to California in 1991 from the East Coast. My husband and I are raising our three kids in the bay area- and we love how convenient it is getting to the mountains for skiing, hiking and water sports. Just 3.5 hours during off peak traffic times.
Jane Coté-Cook purchased this house in 2003
We built this house from the ground up - it was a labor of love and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have. It has been our home away from home for many big family reunions.

Came back to Tahoe from Atlanta for the 3rd time for a family summer vacation renting this house for the first time. My parents and brothers and their families from CA met us at the house. We had 6 adults and 5 kids staying at the house and it fit perfect. The house is everything you'd expect from a $3M+ home. Highlights include a terrific kitchen as well as a large family room.
The location was great, just a mile or so from the NorthStar villiage and rec. center.
There are only two improvements I'd suggest - a hot tub would be nice to relax after a long day of hiking. Second, I think we were there for the hottest week of the year, so it was pretty warm when we first went to bed in spite of all windows being open. Given that is an anomaly, it doesn't warrant central AC; but do use the fans they have provided.
One last note - be careful downhill mountain biking. I had to extend my stay by 4 days due to being in the hospital with 11 fractures and a punctured lung after a biking accident. Fortunately the home owner was able to extend our stay, and at a favorable rate! Thank you for that!
It's a great house - you'll love it!
We loved staying in this house! We had a total of 12 people, 8 adults and 4 kids. Everyone raved about the house. We found it plenty spacious with enough privacy for each family. The house was clean, beautifully furnished, and the kitchen was especially amazing! We hosted a small BBQ for friends and there was plenty of outdoor space for entertaining. (Photos are accurate). We also had access to the Northstar recreational center, which had 2 huge pools, hot tubs and a full sized gym. We had everything we needed and the owners were super responsive. I would definitely stay here again!
Northstar is conveniently located between the quaint town of Truckee California (mining town during the gold rush) and King's Beach California, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Step over the state line into Nevada, about 15 minutes from the house, and casinos and resorts are available for your entertainment. This house sits on quiet cul-de-sac where luxury homes abound, at the end of the street is Home Run ski trail. Purchase your lift pass and you can ski in and ski out using the Ritz / Home Run Gondola. Amenities include a free shuttle service to the Northstar Village, Golf Course, and recreation center. A Northstar recreation center pass is included in this rental - which allows usage of 2 pools, tennis courts and basketball courts (summer only), family hot tub, arcade, and work out facility available year round. Northstar village is a robust resort which includes a limited grocery store, wine bars, restaurants, and clothing stores. During the summer enjoy mountain biking, swimming, and hiking, and during the winter- downhill and cross country skiing, sledding, snow shoeing. Lake Tahoe affords the water sport lover many boating activities, jet skiing, water skiing, wake boarding, river rafting, etc.
