VERY POORLY EQUIPPED AND MAINTAINED

  • 2 of 5

Do not stay here until you have checked it out thoroughly. I visited the house before booking but only once. I booked the house and 3 cottages for 36 guests. On arrival the cottages were filthy, bathrooms disgusting, kitchen VERY badly equipped, electricity trip switch taped up to stop tripping! Bedrooms infested with flies. And on and on. Owners now refusing to return deposit due to alleged damage to marble tiles in hall and blocked toilet! No response from owners when I contacted them first night of arrival. No response to complaints since. This is a beautiful house with fantastic potential (and we had a great night stay regardless) but all our guests left a day early due to the poor hygiene and facilities.

Just make sure you check it out thoroughly to ensure these issues have been remedied before you book.

Owner's Response: This group was particularly unpleasant, messy and nasty on top of that. We had great guests so far and enjoyed good reviews. On that occasion the organiser came to view the house in advance, and was well aware of the equipment and facilities available. If she didn't like it so much she had every opportunity to book elsewhere. The housekeeper was on site, and addressed all the questions the guests had. The guests were drinking heavily, and left empty bottles and mess everywhere. After the party left, we've discovered that the drains in Stable cottage were blocked with vomit and the smell was appalling. The vomit was piping back into the sinks. The drains had to be cleaned by a professional plumber. Worst of all, there were red stains on the marble tiles in the corridor of the main house. The tiles have to be replaced and matched (the house is Grade I listed building). The organiser also had a nerve to file CCJ claim for damages and continuously bombarded me with threatening text messages. Overall, it looked like one of those parties who were after a free ride.

Characterful and quirky party house

  • 4 of 5

We rented wonderful Clermont Hall for a weekend to celebrate a 50th. There were 34 of us in total and we had ample space inside and out. It was enormous fun and we all loved the quirky eccentricity of the place. The beds were comfortable with nice bedlinen, dressing gowns in all the bedrooms and we could all sit down for dinner in the dining room. HOWEVER, I would say that before renting it you need to be aware that the kitchen is quite underequipped. The only dishwasher was broken and we washed up all weekend (for 34) in a sink that had no plug (we used a lemon!), no draining board and about 5 drying up cloths.

Great House, Lovely grounds and Helpful Host

  • 5 of 5

We arrived with a group of friends to Regency Hall for the bank holiday weekend and were very pleased. Olena the host made the whole process a breeze. The main house is well presented and the main bedrooms upstairs are beautiful. I highly recommend booking, great value for a grand home.

Incredible venue, absolutely stunning, recommend!

  • 5 of 5

We hired the house for a friends birthday and it was absolutely perfect.

The décor is fantastic - very ornate and beautiful with fantastic attention to detail.

The owner answered all our questions and was very helpful. The description is accurate, and the house is vast, clean and very well maintained. I would highly recommend this house to anyone. we will definitely be going back.

Grand and Surreal. Dream house

  • 5 of 5

The grounds and rooms are beautiful! Stayed from Friday to Sunday and it really felt like a dream. As my friends and I were laying by the heated pool on the Saturday we could see deer from where we were sitting. There were pheasants roaming the grounds as well. It was so relaxing, and would definitely come back again, and maybe one day go to the beach that's only a short drive away.

Really couldn't fault much about this place. Everything was handled well and everyone had an amazing time.

What a fabulous place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for somewhere big to celebrate my big-0 birthday this year & managed to find this wonderful stately home in Norfolk.

The owner, Olena, was very helpful & got back to me promptly on any queries I had ahead of our arrival.

On arrival, we were met by the housekeeper & the estate manager & although their English wasn't brilliant, this caused no problem at all. Any issues or requests were sorted out for us efficiently, they were so helpful.

The main house was a little musty smelling when we arrived, but I guess that's to be expected with such an old, large house & after a very short time was absolutely fine. We were all also geared up for it to be cold (given the time of year), but the house was very warm & cosy.

Once you head down the tree lined driveway, step in to the entrance hall, are taken through each classically decorated room, you get this real sense of occasion.

The bathrooms had plenty of toiletries & toilet roll. All the linen was of a high quality, there are even dressing gown & slippers for each guest, which was an unexpected lovely touch.

We asked the housekeeper for non feather pillows for a couple of our guests, as all pillows & duvets are feather down, something future guests with allergies may need to note. As mentioned, the housekeeper sorted this out for us with absolutely no fuss.

There were 27 in my group, so I hired the two cottages as well. These were close enough to feel that everyone was together, but far enough away & with a wall in between & own drive that if they were hired out separately, it would also have worked. The only thing you would have to note is that the sauna is in the main house & the hot tub in a room between the two cottages, so depends if you fancy a dip or not!

We managed to use pretty much all of the huge rooms, from the main dining room for dinner & breakfast (there's even a dumb waiter from the kitchen!), TV room for a spot of Sing Star, large hall room for dancing (bring your own speakers & lights!), drinks & nibbles in the ante room, chill out in the library...basically such a good house for a celebration.

The estate is about 13 miles from Brandon station & about 18 miles from Downham Market station (£45) in a 7 seater.

All my guests commented on what an amazing place it was & how perfect it was...a very reasonable price too. We were out of season, but I think the cost in season would be well worth it too.

I would definitely recommend Clermont Hall for any function.
